I recently purchased this bayonet and have no idea what it is and what it goes to except for the fact it is a British bayonet, can anyone help me identify it and distinguish the markings?
A picture of one of the sides
Looks like a Pattern 1907 bayonet for the SMLE.
The other side
Its a 1908 pattern for a Lee Enfield. You got pics of the markings ?

Pull the whole thing out. This looks like a Khyber fake; 1871 is way too early for this type.

Out of curiosity, should bayonets be sharpened?

Generally no. They are for stabbing, not slashing. Exceptions are the type that are more utility knives/machetes than bayonets.

Guard is the wrong length, blade looks home-made. Sorry OP; you got a Paki fake.
