Hearing damage after a range trip?

Yesterday I went shooting and was at the range for a couple hours. I put 20 rounds through a m44 and tokarev, and about 80 rounds through my vz58. I was using sonic defender ear plugs which are highly rated and supposed to work well for the first time. They were new out of the box. I had them seated in my ear properly with the extra filter in place.

Immediately after leaving the range, hearing loss was noticible, especially in my right ear. There was ringing and it felt like someone had stuffed cotton in my right ear. Its been 18 hours and my hearing has still not returned to normal.

Is my hearing fucked? Also, what should I do about hearing protection for future trips? These plugs were supposed to be excellent and I've never had negative results like this before. The cheap orange disposable plugs I used before protected me better.

Thanks

That's not hearing damage, it's PTSD. Better contact your psychiatrist.

Bumping for my poor ears

Thanks for your valuable insight. I'll be sure to move to NYC, lube up, and allow the "doctor" to perform a thorough exam

Bumping again.

Also, I'd appreciate suggestions for quality ear pro. I have problems with me hearing before this started and I doubt this will help.
>>
It might go away, if it doesn't it shouldn't be so bad it ruins your life.
Double up next time you shoot the mosin
>>
>>31488187

Yea never doing this again. I'd be willing to spend 100 bucks on quality earpro if anyone has suggestions.

Looking for something that won't interfere with a cheek weld
>>
>>31488143
>not doubling up with electronic earpro and plugs
People who don't take their health seriously deserve the shit that happens to them.

Fucking numales.

Double up next time you fucking moron.

Sonic defenders are good, but I would look into Howard leight impact sports too
I'd double up with foam plugs+ Howard leights
Also keep in mind doubling up didn't mean you get 28+30 = 58db of protection, it's more like 28+30= 35db of protection since db is logarithmic
>>
>>31488202

I do take this shit seriously. That's why I'm posting and trying to get suggestions for quality ear pro
>>
>>31488143
Welcome to the EEEEEEEEEEEE brother
>>
>>31488214

Thank you for the constructive feedback. I will look into those muffs. Do they interfere with a cheek weld?
>>
>>31488143
I have had decent results with cheap orange foam plugs. To be fair I have damaged hearing from my father teaching me to shoot without hearing protection.

After what I experienced yesterday I can't imagine shooting without any protection in place. Sorry for your luck
>>
Sorry OPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>31488202
This. If you have extra money or friends at an audiologist off get custom ear plugs made and double up. The custom plugs are so much more comfy than the shitty foam ones.
>>
>>31488303
Meh. What happened, happened. I can still hear out of both ears but if you mumble to my right I won't understand you.
>>
>>31488327

I have the same problem, except I'm an ambulance driver so when my partner is yelling at me in the back to do something I frequently can't understand them.
>>
All I have is earplugs from walgreens and I can't fucking stand them, they don't fit and just squish up, I'm not sure they're actually working.

What are the best earplugs to use? I also want to double up and use some electronic ear pro too, willing to spend on that.
>>
>>31488340

OP here, so far all I've gotten is howard leight impact sports. Brief search finds a 40 dollar pair that does 22 dB of protection, and a 94 dollar pair that provides 30 dB. Both are electronic
>>
>>31488143
Im around jet engines all day and dont have this problem, get some foamies and headsets. When I shoot I just wear foamies.

>Be me - Saturday's session on the range
>walled covered outdoor range - from three sides closed posts
>'ve grabed my SLR, magazine inside, pull charge handle back release it, push on the shoulder and safety off...
>semblance that something is wrong.CAD
>I forgot my active headphones folded around my neck
>Fuck it, not worth to delay with safety on etc... because I'm macho and buddies are watching...

The last thing I heard was Range officer (one of my pals) "Dude you're an idiot..."

>.308 BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.mp3
>on Wednesday after three days, its finally stops ringing in my ears...

I didn't noticed any serious hearing disorders on me. But as Range officer I'm immune to "bangs" from pistol calibers, mostly I do not move a muscle.
>>
>>31488242
They don't really interfere, no.
>>
Oh god why

Please, never do that again. That's worse than my screw up except yours was deliberate. Hope the macho was worth it
>>
>>31488401
The smaller pair coupled with sonic defenders will handle everything you will ever shoot.
>>
>>31488143
Ah welcome to tinnitus land my brother. Just stay the fuck away from loud noises for a couple of weeks. And you might not have to live with the constant

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

In your head
>>
Remember to triple up you unbelievable faggots.
>>
>>31488177
peltors and plugs or if you shoot centerfire or shottys enough you will fuck yourself.

i used shoot 22 subs with a silencer a lot to work on technique for this very reason and call my shots with a spotter.
>>
>>31488194
3M Peltor Tactical 6S Active Volume Hearing Protector

see frequently bought together

OR if on the cheap

3M Peltor 97025 Folding Earmuff

Use plugs also.

Permanent ear damage is not funny and a lot of soldier from the 70s/80s have it bad,
>>
>going shooting with older cousins
>at a outdoor range with twenty other people also shooting
>14 year old wearing broken headphones for hearing protection
It was less than desirable but not REEEEEE, granted it was out in the woods.

Does the orange Howard Leight plugs used by Hickock45 work? They seem to be on the cheap end of things.
>>
>>31488143
> Also, what should I do about hearing protection for future trips?
Just buy a suppressor if it's possible in your state.
