It's a dedicated urban warfare infantry support tank. Basically a SPAAG with all the AA bits stripped off and all the anti-infantry dakka beefed up. It's for removing kebab in Georgia.

The Armata familiy? That is something in the future. The T-72 is still the main fighting element that the Russians have and the BMPT shares part with it and it can be bought by other countries that uses T-72's. Unlike the Armata which would be extremely costly.
