Do you wear earpro when you unload your carry gun into your clearing bucket before going to bed every night? I only started carrying a week ago and I am starting to get a ringing in my ears that I can notice even while driving my pickup (modified exhaust) through busy downtown traffic.
>>
>>31481525
Don't worry your hearing will soon adapt
>>
>>31481565
Okay. Good to know.
>>
>>31481525
WHAT?
>>
>>31481525
>unload your carry gun into your clearing bucket before going to bed every night?
?????
>>
>>31481831
This. I use my clearing pocket. Its a pocket on my pants that I use to clear my handgun.
>>
>>31481525
wtf are you talking about.
>>
>>31481525
No, that's normal. Keep going and soon you won't hear it anymore.
>>
>>31481831
It's known as a "jackass jug" or "boom bucket" in other parts of the world. That might clear your confusion.
>>
>>31481836
Huh. I've been using my clearing mouth because the day I put a fucking clearing bucket to use is the day I eat a bullet. Might as well cut out the middle man.
>>
Why do you have a clearing bucket? Or anyone for that matter?
Are you too stupid to use your eyes to check the chamber if you're too scared to believe the live round flying out when you clear it?
>>
>>31481525
Use your fucking mouth as a clearing bucket if you can't do it without one.
>>
>>31481908
If you manually eject the round it flies off to the side completely out of your control. Are you seriously suggesting I send a live round flying off somewhere behind me?

You use a clearing bucket because it allows you to maintain control of the round, straight into the bucket.
>>
>>31481860
gotcha now
>>
>>31481972
this
>>
>>31481972
Point ejector at bucket with soft padding?
>>
>>31481525
>>31481972

I thought summer was over
>>
>>31482007
Or cup your hand around the ejector and have the bullet land in your hand like everyone else ever.
>>
>>31481972
>not going into an open part of your house so you know where the round went.
>not dry firing the weapon in the bucket instead of firing it and risking injury/damage.
I don't get why people do this.
>>
>>31481972
do people seriously use these or are you just pretending to be retarded
>>
>>31482036
Are there really gun owners out there who don't know how to use a clearing bucket? Are you one of those silly Canadians?

OP, I fire mine into the night sky right before I walk into my home.

I aim in the direction of the freeway entrance some distance away.

So far nothing bad has happened and no one has stopped me.

I like to imagine the bullets take a magical journey after they leave my pistol and have an adventure all their own.
>>
>>31482036
police and military use them (non gettho versions, of course) to confirm clear before entering a building. It's more for legal reasons IMO, rather than practical purposes.

They only legitimate reason for someone to have in they're home, aside from unnecessary redundancy in safety, that I can think of is if someone wants to drop the hammer or decock on a live chamber for whatever reason in a safe direction. There's is no reason you can't confirm clear by just checking the chamber while you are at home
>>
>>31482129
Unloading and manually cycling a handgun is an extremely dangerous activity. If you're going to unload a gun, it should either be downrange, into a bad guy/terrorist, or into a clearing bucket.
>>
>>31481525
Why do you clear it every night?
>>
>>31482036
If you're implying you regularly and willingly launch live rounds out of your weapon in a direction you can't directly control then there isn't much I can say other than you shouldn't own guns.
>>
>>31482184
It's needed so the magazines don't get a chance to "take a set" from being loaded for too long.
>>
>>31482143
>>31482129
Yes, both these things are true, but surely you only fire into the clearing bucket AFTER you've unloaded your weapon. That is, it's a place to dry-fire your weapon in a way that, in the unlikely event you fucked up and left a round in, you won't kill anyone.

You're not seriously firing one off every night before bed, are you?
>>
>>31482184
Leaving your weapon loaded wears out the chamber.
>>
>>31482206
Where do you think all these rounds are supposed to go? Into the wall? Into an innocent bystander? Why the hell wouldn't you clear your weapon every night so you don't risk injury or lawsuits?
>>
>>31482206
I'm wondering how OP is starting to get tinnitus if not.
>>
>>31482209
Im gonna need you to explain this further because it sounds absoluty retarded to me

>>31482107
This is pretty philosophical
>>
>>31482225
It's just like how leaving your magazines loaded wears them out. Day/night temperature changes cause the rounds to expand and contract slightly which repeatedly puts stress on your chamber and can damage it if allowed to occur repeatedly.
>>
>>31482201
Fuddlore
>>
>>31482225
Extensive contact between two different kinds of highly reactive metals (oxidization) leads to transfer and galling.

>>31482246
That's a strawman. I can load down my car with concrete blocks in the trunk so it takes the bounce out of the rear shocks, but no one would drive a car extensively in this condition. About 50% loading is a good compromise (and 0% is ideal) for long-term storage.
>>
>>31482246
Car suspension springs are much stronger and hardly prone to wearing out from that
>>
>>31481972
I can't tell if this is retarded or a joke... Just cycle the slide and catch the round like a boss. Or let it fall on the floor and pick it up. You guys can't seriously be afraid of live rounds that are not in the chamber of a weapon right?

Hold your gun closer to the bucket.
I usually pour some water in my bucket to cut down on the noise a bit. It does make a mess, but there is less noise.
Ignore the trolls in this thread OP.
Clearing Buckets also work great for daily function checks without the need to go to a range

>>
>>31482290
But... what kind of lunatic FIRES the chambered round in their house every night when they take their carry piece off. Are you fucking insane? Don't do that, just cycle the slide WITH YOUR HAND and the round will come back out without firing. I promise.

Because that's very. very dangerous.
>>
>>31482200
No, I cup the ejector and cock it back so if there is a round in it it just lands in my hand are you seriously stupid or something?
>>
>>31482283
Once you chamber a round it becomes live, you can't just "cycle the slide" and risk that live round going somewhere you didn't intend. Use a proper clearing bucket and you avoid those accident entirely.

>>31482294
>Implying there isn't even slight temperature/humidity change even in A/Ced homes. I don't know how you manage that unless your Dogecoin mining rig is pitiful, but regardless you shouldn't even take the chance of forgetting you left your weapon loaded and coming back to find a ruined chamber.
>>
>>31482309
are you seriously asking this guy to eject a loaded round, into his HAND of all places? Is your nickname Nubbins? Maybe Stumpy?
>>

>>
>>31482317

Unlike you, I don't want my fellow gun owners getting hurt
>>
>>31482308
Literally cup the ejector or point the ejector at your bed so it just stops when it hits your bed, I would lose rounds to just checking, why would I willfully waste ammo? What is this thread, I'm losing my IQ by the second
>>
>>31482309
You mean you don't? I'm pretty sure it's standard practice. Every handgun course I've been to teaches it, including the concealed carry classes. at the last NRA thing I went to they even mentioned it becoming part of the Eddie the Eagle teachings.
>>
>>31482327
>I cup the ejector and cock it back
So not only do you not use a clearing bucket, but you impede the ejector so you have absolutely NO chance of a safe and consistent ejection.

You can't seriously be telling me all this and claim that you haven't (presumably repeatedly) ND'd.
>>
>>31482264
Thats why cars have a stated maximum capacity, as long a the spring is stressed within it tolerences and not over extended or compressed a static load has no effect on the spring. What wears them out is compression cycles, which is ussually 10s of thousands of cycles for the expected lifespan. What idiot would design a mag spring to be over compressed when fully loaded? They dont. Ive had the mags for my 92, which has been my nughtstand gun since the day ive turned 21, fully loaded for over 10 years. They still work fine and feel just as stiff as the new ones i got a few months ago.

Clearing buckets aren't meant to be intentionally shot into, you mongoloids. The are meant to provide a safe direction to point your weapon as you remove the live ammo just in case the gun accidentally discharges. In particular, they are important for clearing weapons that don't have additional safety features that prevent the weapon from firing unless only the trigger is pulled.

Fuck.
>>
>>31482315
Because books are worth something, and contain knowledge.
>>
>>31482370
With magazines, the full capacity is the maximum capacity. I own a Glock 17, but I rarely load more than 10 rounds in the magazines. Don't want to risk it.

>>
>>31482457
Pecause there's plenty of space under a car to overengineer springs and prevent that problem. In a gun there's only so much space inside the magwell and magazine which means it can only accommodate a flimsy spring which will eventually wear out, so that's the price you pay. And don't pretend that car springs DON'T eventually wear out because that would be a lie.

Um..... What the fuck? No, man, no. My chamber round only leaves my chamber during maintenance (clean and oil once a week to get rid of fuzzies and sweat rust) or when I cycle out my old carry ammo for fresh at a range, and it leaves as smoking brass. Outside of that, I keep my carry loaded and ready with the hammer cocked and safety on at all times. At night, its under my pillow.

Not that it being under my pillow does any good, as evidenced by the time Mr. Shithead McFuckwaffle down the street let off fireworks at 0230 and I leapt out of bed and grabbed the Mossberg M590A1 before I was even awake.

People with attitudes like yours are the reason so many bad habits and unsafe practices are passed along through generations of gun owners unable to recognize their safety discrepancies. Which is one of two reasons I stated that you could rotate rounds when you reload the magazine. The risk of what you are talking about is not very high either way, but best practice is best practice. Which still includes not firing your gun into a bucket of sand in your house on purpose.
>>
>>31482505
You cant over engineer a spring. If you made the springs in cars bigger they would be stiffer and the suspesion would be too stiff and give a rough ride. Mag springs only need to exert 10-15 lbs of force of course they need to be thin, if they were beefier they would be stiffer and push too hard on the slide causing a reduction in slide velocity which may start to cause feeding issues. I assure you the range of motion of the spring in a mag is well within compression tolerences and static loads do not afect spring life. Please stop spreading this dumb fuddlore. There are plenty of tests on gun springs and plenty of engineering documents on springs that you can read that will tell you leaving magazines fully loaded for extended periods of time is fine.

I've seen it pop up in a few threads once or twice but was too afraid to ask. Holy fuck, I've just been clearing my gun and dry firing into the floor all this time like a retard. So is a regular bucket + some dirt from my backyard okay? I know I probably sound dumb asking if there's some sort of special "clearing bucket brand bucket" or type/consistency of dirt I need but I figure it's better if I double check at this point, I've already gone this whole time without even knowing what a clearing bucket was.

Perfect example of why you need a clearing bucket: http://i.4cdn.org/k/1475024915868.webm
>>
To all the people who say "just rack the live round out of the chamber": you have never owned a Browning 1910. With this gun, the firing pin doubles as an ejector, so if you violently eject a live round, you could set off the primer out of battery and cause a serious problem. Clearing buckets are safer.

About a clearing bucket and whether or not it's actually a good idea? I don't know. Sometimes I think it'd be nice to have, but in order for it to be used I'd have to be extremely negligent.
First thing I do with all my firearms before fiddling with them is charge them. If they have a last round hold open I always keep them open and look. I'm not sure who really is nding to the point they need a safe direction to point their firearm when handling.

Okay, obviously you need to keep a gun in a safe direction when loading and unloading. >>
>>31481525
>Do you wear earpro

No. Because I don't intentionally fire my weapon to clear it. The bucket is just a safe place to point when you are ejecting a chambered round. An actual ND is rare (I've never had one). So why bother with the earpro.
>>
>>31483718
This is the dumbest post of the whole thread
>>
>>31483610
Finer sand packs togeather tighter and stops it faster but it can make a mess because theres less give. Coarse sand lets it pass through and slows it, but you might damage your bucket. You can use a medium sand, or you can layer the sand with fine on the bottom, coarse on the top. If you do this you should have a thicker layer of coarse sand, about 2/3rds to 1/3.

Any bucket will work, just dont get a cheap one. Make sure its a durable kind of plastic or a metal bucket.

Do you see cops wearing earpro everywhere? Do you see them putting it on when there's a standoff with a melanin enhanced pcp demon?
No, because it's just pistol caliber rounds. The military has to deal with rifles, so they naturally always use protection.

Regular ol' blackpowder works just fine, is cheap, and has a good terminal stopping consistency.

you would go "but wait!" nope. gunpowder needs a primer anon. you are gonna be just fine.

Tannerite in a pinch also makes a good fill for a cleaning bucket.

protip: these are lies.

>>31492639
Eh. Kinda expensive
>>31483172
Make sure to add oil. (we used to recommend water because it cuts down on the noise, like a silencer does)
But water rusts things and you'd have to oil your gun afterwords.
Just add oil and skip a whole step!!
