What's a good afordable scope for a break action pellet rifle? The scope that came with mine broke within the first couple hundred rounds, even tho it had the little point that goes into the rifles receiver that's suppose to keep the pellet rifles recoil from breaking it

You realize the NRA has air rifle competitions right? I think you might be confusing air rifles with air soft...or you're just a cunt

Since it is the first Airgun General, here's my very old Crossman 760 pellet/bb gun. Notice how well I took care of it as a kid with all the scratches and rust on the barrel. It's from the late 1970s and surprisingly still works.

Dead accurate, and very pleasant to shoot.
Only problem with gamos is that their factory scope mounts are kindof crap and don't handle the abuse well.
I only use irons anyway, pic is old.
I plan on replacing the mount with one made of harder materials and re-scoping it though.

What is good first pellet gun?

>>31480939 here
If I could start over, I wouldn't even have my 177.
Just the 22 whisper fusion pro.
22 has way more power, and pellets are pretty much the same price, borderline free.
>>
>>31480956

a break barrel is cheaper but it requires a special hold to fire it accurately. a pump is fine but its underpowered and typically small. a pcp is the best because its powerful and you dont need a special hold but theyre expensive.

typically people buy a break barrel and are disappointed because they hold it tight and get shitty accuracy, and the beginner break barrel is a gamo big cat in .177

>>31480971
is right, just skip to .22. its powerful and accurate.
>>
>>31481150
>>31480971
What about the hadsan mod 95?
I've heard good things but how does it compare
>>
>>31481524

i dont know alot about it, but its really popular, sootch00 really likes it.

it has an auto safety, which i think is silly for a break barrel.
>>
After watching the bulldog 357 advert I'm wondering if the 600fps at the last shot is enough to take the game they are claiming.
>>
What would be a good cheap air rifle for killing squirrels and rabbits humanely? I would use my .22 if I wasn't in city limits so I need to defend my garden some how

I'm pretty happy with my gamo.177 it's accurate and it works just fine for what I use it for.

I'd recommend a Gamo Hunter.
I own a CFR for target and it's great.

Is the Benjamin Maximus still the best bang for your buck for a PCP rifle? Just discovered my local range got a scuba filling station and they fill your rifle for free being a member. I've only had Chinese springers before, I'm torn between the Maximus or getting the more expensive Marauder.
>>
>>31480559
You win one Internet.
>>
>>31481150
Benjamin has introduced a $200 PCP, the Maximus. Don't know if it's any good. There are also some sketchy Chinese PCPs in that price range.
>>
>>31484022
Just the hunter?
>>
I have a Remington express .22 pellet that I purchased at a liquidation store for $80 recently, it had a $149.99 Walmart sticker still on the box.

With crosman premier pellets I can group 1" at 25 yards, which is better than I need it for. It sends a .22 pellet at over 900fps, which is certainly enough to kill small game and piss off other threats. Bought it to eradicate squirrels (which tear into our insulation) and potentially the stray raccoon that gets too close to the chicken coop. Neighbors live too close to legally fire real guns and they lib-shills that wouldn't consent to firing.

A little off-topic question: how would an airgun, say, a CO2 pistol, fare in self-defense? I've considered buying an ASG SIG Sauer SP2022, mainly for target practice and fun, but could I use it for home defense?
>>
>>31488483
Hey newfag, read the sticky.
>>
>>31488502
I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I assume you think I'm talking about an airsoft gun. The gun in question fires 4.5mm metal pellets, not plastic
>>
>>31488483
Not very well. You don't want your defensive pistol to be dependent on weather and most c02 pistols aren't even strong enough for small game.
>>
>>31488606
How about home defense? Indoors, in an apartment? It obviously wouldn't be too loud, but loud enough to maybe startle the attacker?
>>
>>31488483
You'd be relying mostly on fear, and some pain, god help you if that doesn't work.
It's probably better than nothing for those reasons, but far from what you'd want ideally.
A full auto 22cal pellet rifle on the other hand, that could mess someone up badly without killing your ears.
>>
>>31488483
You can get .25 or .357 caliber PCP air pistols that will do for self defense in a pinch, but you only get one bullet at a time, and the tank can only manage 5 or so shots.
>>
>>31488619
Not really. It would be as loud as maybe a nail gun but you could make more noise with a pan.
>>
>>31480316
Leapers or Hawke. Springers and gas ram guns have some nasty two way recoil and it fucking destroys regular scopes. You have to buy scopes built to withstand this two way recoil if you want them to hold up. Leapers and Hawke make such scopes.

Leapers scopes are damn near indestructible, have decent glass, and don't cost much. They're heavy though. Hawke scopes will be clearer and lighter, but more expensive. You should grab a one piece scope mount too to keep your poi from shifting with the nasty springer recoil.
>>
I recently bought a .22 Crosman Vantage NP for about $100

I'm getting pretty bad groupings (about 3 inches at 10 yards) and I'm wondering if it's my fault or the gun. If it's mine, how any tips on how to be more accurate? I'm shooting with irons btw, getting a scope soon.
>>
What if you make an air rifle with a quick exhaust valve and a barrel to shoot bullet like projectiles. What would be the effective range with 20 BAR pressure?
>>
>>31489179

you have to hold it using the artillery hold-

basically a break barrel has dual recoil-the spring moves forward and that causes the rifle to move forwards and then the piston slams against the airport and that causes the rifle to move rearwards before the pellet has left the barrel. so you have to hold it as loose as possible. let the rifle recoil and youll get good groups.
>>
>>31489341
thanks, i'll try that when i get home
>>
>>31490366

heres how i sight in my breakbarrel
>cock and load rifle
>put off safe
>use a rest like the rail on my deck
>put natural balance point on the rail
>ill use something like a mousepad or something slick to help let the rifle recoil
>place buttstock on my shoulder
>hold pistol grip as loose as possible
>put crosshair on the target
>pull trigger without gripping the grip hard
>release the shot
>let the rifle move
>have a good 2 second follow through
>repeat 3 times
>adjust the crosshairs to the group
>>
>>31490640
thanks, the rear sight broke off yesterday so I kind of have an excuse to finally get a scope
>>
A target I shot a while back.

50m prone with an air arms s400f and hawke sidewinder 6-24x56 30 SF scope with a 20x 1/2 mil-dot grid using H&N FTT 8.64 grain pellets.

>>31489341
actually, you got it backwards - ie, the rifle moves backwards first, and forward second, for the reasons you described.
>>
>>31489341
Does the artillery hold also apply to nitro piston rifles?
>>
>>31492677

yes because a piston is moving.

a nitro piston is a piston that is pushed from compressed gas and not a physical steel spring
>>
How is the benjamin summit NP2?

What about the Gamo bone collector?
