I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to build the best narco sub.

So far I've narrowed it down to

>carbon fiber or fiberglass construction because we don't have a foundry and we want the minimum possible amount of weight
>off the shelf diesel generators, hooked up to off the shelf battery banks and an off the shelf electric motor
>runs on snorkel 90% of the time because electric batteries aren't that efficient
>if the fuzz shows up, or the fuzz is likely to show up, dive, and run on batteries until you're somewhere they aren't expecting you to be
>has significant radio-intercept, sonar, and navigation capabilities to avoid interception
>cargo bay can fit pallets, for faster loading/unloading and higher throughput per sub
>try to develop a proper software suite so that a commander at a monitor can control most of the features
>ability to be stored submerged rather than at a dock, and be recovered by divers with scuba gear, because so many subs get nailed at port
>hammocks, because they're light weight and they fold away when you aren't using them

I still have my guns and boat; I gave up planes when I started working in them as crew because it's hard to justify the cost when you're in other people's aircraft all day.

I did trade that hobby in for photography, though - which is nearly as expensive.
