Could just buy one that's already drilled and tapped like I did. I had an unmolested one and didn't feel like "ruining history" and all that jazz. So I just waited til a scoped one came up for a decent price.

I've thought about it, but I don't think I will feel that bad about it, as I am breathing new, period correct life into it, That and I spent a lot of time cleaning the cosmoline out and am now attached to it, to just turn around, sell it, and search for one already drilled and tapped.

Yeah. Whoever did it heated it and bent it some and cut into the stock some. Doesn't look the best but I don't care. It functions well.

Are M48's even accurate enough to utilize a scope effectively?

How accurate are they, on average?

Take a Nugget. A standard Nugget is generally not very accurate, so you wouldn't benefit much from putting a scope on it.

1-2 moa is very capable out to 500 yards, at 500 yards a 1 moa spread is only 5, while a 2 would be about 10, a man sized torso is approximately 13-14 inches wide. so it is capable enough for use as a DMR/early sniper rifle. It of course hasn't got shit on modern actions, but part of the fun will be accurizing it as much as possible.

Not if you use the ZRAK rings & bases. Notice how high >>31479209 the rings are; this was so the bolt didn't have to be turned down any further.

I mean, nuggets are just as accurate, most battle rifles are intended to hit a man size target at X-meters/yards, the average being 300, which is incredibly easy to do with an AK or AR, even easier with an M1A and with a scope should almost be cheating.
