Of course not, why would every culture that adopted firearms like handgonnes or muskets use volley fire tactics. Those guns just sucked.
Modern guns shoot death that bounces around inside you if the bullet is small or blasts clean through and sends you flying through the air if it's a large bullet. Surpressing fire is a meme people use to sound tactical all you do is pull the trigger and BOOM watch those baby skulls disapear you could take 20 out with hipfire at 300yards with one trigger pull in 2 or 3 seconds.

Like another anon said it's harder to shoot back if you're being shot at. It's pretty fucking unnerving when bullets are zipping a few inches by your head. If you've got to move them you'll feel a lot safer when the enemy are less likely to shoot you while you're exposed.

I think a suppressive fire in semi auto would be easier because it doesn't burn through all your ammo in 3 seconds and because it's less predictable by the dudes who you're suppressing.

There was an interesting video some snackbar posted of them laying in some sort of tree grove while bullets were flying overhead. They couldn't do anything but make themselves as flat to the earth as possible. Couldn't return fire or even crawl.
