>forged > cast
One of the big arguments against Ruger revolvers is that they used cast parts instead of forged like S&W and yet Ruger is well known to be much stronger than S&W with Ruger only loads being sold on the market. So the argument that forged is just always better than forged isn't true. There are other things at play to.

>stamped > milled
It's lighter. It's as durable but not any more so. It doesn't feel as nice to shoot. It's not any more accurate. Stamped is just cheaper, that's all. You got a stamped receiver and now you want to run around acting like it's the pinnacle.

Great gun and still a value. SKS and a case of ammo for $500, what's not to like? You'll struggle to find a $500 AK that isn't a pile. Be persistent and get what you want at a good price, but the clock is ticking

>>
>>31473264

Bring a go and no-go gauge. Check for canting, fucked up rivets, rust, and obvious signs of abuse. Check if it has had a recent headspace adjustment by seeing if it has an oversized barrel pin.

If it's in great shape, grab it. Used Poly sidefolders can go anywhere from 1400 to 2000.

>>31474569

They are rare in russia, and 99% of them are straight up stolen from the russian military, the bakes and other surplus is mostly looted from abandoned bases/stores in post soviet countries where the soviets just got up and left.

Bakes aren't rare at all, they made more bakelites then all previous mags combined, at least for 7.62, they didn't bother taking them with them, that should say enough.

The only 7.62 bakes with any type of uncommonness are Tula's and the Izhmash cyrillic's.
$30 for a bakelite is literal rape, but people have no problem paying $40 from dealers, when the importer can't have bought them for AT THE MOST $5

Not him but I doubt it, their manufacturer NPZ increased their price of Obzors earlier this year and they're pretty much still going to be running $400 USD

Unless of course you're talking about a used one, but in that case I have no idea
>>
>>31474866
This was true for a long time.
Not so much anymore now that most of the "easy" countries are somewhat dry on bakes and Russia is hard to move equipment out of.

The main reason you see them for $40 here is that everyone down the chain doubles their money on these. To give you an idea of a usual magazine transaction for me:
warehouse -> original procurer -> 1 or 2 dealers -> U.S. importer -> U.S. wholesaler -> U.S. retailer.
Sometimes the importer is the retailer or skips the wholesaler. So you can see how the price climbs if everyone is doubling up.

>>31474875

Tula was/is a smaller plant then Izhmash, who knows what the actual production numbers are for bakelites but they definitely make millions, if not tens of millions of them, Tula are less common at least on the U.S market so they are perceived as "rarer" the soviet star stamping is cooler then the Izhmash logo as well.

My guy has to sort through to get me Tula's, they are NOS but izhmash and Tula are mixed together in the wooden crates, which are sealed so they were obviously originally packaged that way, why who knows.

Most people buy them because they are moderately functional while still retailing the "slav" aesthetic on their rifle.

If you're going for pure function, spending 400 on an aimpoint would be better than a 400 obzor.

newfag owner here.

I was looking for awhile but was always on the fence about paying around $700 as I'm kinda a poorfag with a mosin. But then I found this Wasr-10 at my favorite gun store for $450. It is a pretty run of the mill WASR but god damn for that price I couldn't say no. I'll probably refinish the wood on it since I have experience with that. Apparently some shitter bought it, let it sit in a safe for a month, and then returned it.

Read through the thread, did someone say $10-$15 bakelite mags? Shit I was honestly tempted to buy one for $50 because I knew I didn't have much else choice.

Also good places to get a decent bakelite pistol grip that isn't beaten to shit?

Honestly you'd be better off just getting a set of surplus furniture to refinish, and just tossing that balsa tier shit into the parts bin.
I was going to say look at Apex but it seems like their sets are all OOS.

Clearview Investments has some 3 piece sets but you'd have to find an upper handguard to match.
Shouldn't be difficult if you're going to refinish it, but it is enough of an issue to warrant mention.
Bakelite grips can be found for ~$5-$7 easily. (Clearview has them for $4)

Enjoy your "new" WASR, you stole it at that price given the current market.

I suppose there's the longer svd style flash hiders meant to go on the regular "ak barrel" threads. I don't think it'd look good personally, but maybe you'd like it.
I haven't shot at night, but the grenade launchers have a fair amount of open space in them for gas to expand. I'd think they'd be an ok flash hider on top of being neat looking.
Still, if you buy wolf/bear ammo etc that likes to fireball like crazy, it might not be enough. Golden tiger is the only one I've shot so far that won't even make a muzzle flash even on a 16in barrel.

I will try to come across some extra Finnish mags, i'm a regular in akg, so when i do come across some ill ask if someone wants. Dont expect the prices to be low. The plastic mags go for around 35-45euros for civilians and 10-20 euros for steelies, after that i might have to send them in two packages splitting skeletons and springs into different packages. No idea what a package to US costs tho, also i wont promise it making it to your doorsteps, the states dont like receiving gunparts from EU as far as i know.

I had a .308 VEPR for about a year and a half. It was nice, it are everything I put through it, but it dented brass and was on the heavier side. Mags are expensive but Csspecs makes great steel mags for them. Parts were borderline nonexistent. I was part of s group buy for some custom machined extractors and I bought three for $40 a piece. I ended up selling it right after the KC import ban for double what I paid for it (even though it wasn't banned kek). The biggest reason why I sold it was because I already had an FAL that I liked better, I shot better, had cheaper parts and mags, was just as reliable, and didn't dent brass.

Id recommend one though. It was neat. I just didn't have as much of an interest in a full power cartridge AK as I thought I did when I bought it.

Unfortunately I haven't updated with Ratnik standards, and having steel plates only up front really fucking sucks. I pieced the 6b23 together from three different sources back before you could buy the whole thing in a neat bag, and I'm still missing the trapezoidal inserts. I might grab a 6sh117 to throw over a 6b45

I almost got one from ruforyou but I'm still waiting on my helmet. Hopefully it'll be here in the next few weeks at this rate. As far as I know the only benefit of a 117 over a 116 is the molle back area. The 116 belt upgrade is definitely nicer than the 112 though, imo. 116+45 is comfy af too as long as you're used to having a big ass neck piece

I really only need to upgrade for that damn real estate. Trying to cram anything more than the issued pouches onto a 112 turns into a hot mess real quick, and you already start off short a radio pouch and (more importantly) hydration. Want to carry some VOGs? Tough luck.
>>31481210
They are, that's part of their doctrine. Have you seen a Gladiator-C?
>>
>>31481322
You got a full set of those tiny grenade pouches and a butt pack right? I found myself dropping little shit in the grenade pouches I put near my left kidney when I had a 112, but I decided not to put them on for my 116. Also prepare for all the kids telling you hydration permanently attached to your back is the worst idea ever
>>
>>31480778
Yes. I would take pictures but their signs are

"No pictures allowed in store"
And
"If you're here to use our prices and 20 years of experience as research to buy online or elsewhere, LEAVE NOW."

They don't allow pictures because their prices are sky high. I thought $800 was high when I was there to purchase a handgun, but I didn't realize how much higher they were pricing. Later bought for a little over $600 at a larger store.

But fuck me I should get that Arsenal since it's right there.
>>
>>31481398
>>31481322
Oh I forgot to say too, there's no actual size difference between the 112/6/7 as far as I know. Only material upgrades and the integrated belt vs a free one from the 112 to the 116, and the back molle like I said from 116 to 117. So if you're looking for more vest space from a 117 you're only gonna get the place for your hydration pack

Did you get to the part where he explains why there are ruger only loads? Did you get that far? Hint: S&Ws guns are just as strong IF you are comparing similar sized guns.
>>
>>31481398
Too bad the nade pouches are too small for anything. I had to resort to sticking nades in the general purpose pouches and the sides of the butt pack.
I actually have the new 116/117 radio, medic, and canteen pouches. I'd rather run two canteens than a back hydro anyway, easier to fill up at a water buffalo as you don't have to take the who kit off and if you want to sit on a OPLP and ditch kit, you aren't attached by a stupid hose.

Cool. Well for about that price you can get something from DDI or Atlantic, both quality shops. A few hundred more will put you in Arsenal range. A few hundred less will get you a WASR or Yugo, generally both pretty good entry level AKs. You'll also want to figure out what caliber to go with. 7.62x39 is cheap and plentiful but 5.45x39 is starting to gain in popularity too. I typically recommend 7.62x39 for the first time buyer since the barrier of entry is much cheaper.
>>
>>31481632
You're going to have to explain what happened because that shitty picture isn't cutting it
>>
>>31481620
Are barrel lengths so fundamental to an AK that you would consider two, otherwise identical, guns with different barrel lengths to be a different type of gun?
>>
>>31481659
How appreciable is the difference in quality between Arsenal and something like Atlantic?
>>
>>31481632
>>31481663
Sorry for the shitty picture. The finish on the barrel started doing this.
>>
>>31481693
Turn the fucking flash off you stupid nigger
>>
>>31481675

With 7.62x39 Barrel length does not affect Muzzle Velocity. (If you stay within standard rifle barrel lengths such as 12-24 inches, the muzzle velocity changes around 100fps).

tldr: I dont.
>>
>>31481710
I'm at work now so I can't get a better one till later today

I have both. Atlantic's are kit rifles made with original surplus and US made parts and are great if you're in the market for something specific, like an East German or Polish clone. Arsenals are higher quality in terms of fitting (not finish) but really my Arsenal isn't any more accurate or reliable than any of my other AKs.

If you can afford either, I'd say it just comes down to what looks best in your opinion. I will say this, Atlantic does discount rifles in their scratch and dental section. My Maadi was only $600 because it had a dent in the magwell. Might be a worth keeping in mind if you'd like to save a couple of bucks.

Just about every 7.62x39 mag I have is on the tighter side in my Maadi (haven't filed any down yet) except for a few Chinese mags, the mag it came with (no idea what it is or where it's from, just a plane jane surplus steel mag) and these Egyptian mags. I see Atlantic is selling some but Atlantic always charges a lot for shipping small packages, so I'll pick some more up elsewhere when they pop up. They aren't the prettiest but they go with the rifle, and that is more important to me than looks.

I'll pick up a sling eventually, they're pretty easily available for around $20 or so in good shape.

The slant brake is really killing me though, it's plastered IO INC and that bothers me. I thought a had a Romanian slant somewhere but I can't find it.

Those are some nice handguards. Triangle + wood + polyamide (or bakelite more realistically) is my favorite look on the 104FR's.

I'm talking to a guy right now about doing a straight trade for a 104 FR in exchange for a kit I don't want. He says he's gotten other offers though and I doubt he'll spring for mine when this kit is kind of dingy.
>>
>>31482189

Triangle folders are all over the files MP and getting cheaper by the day it seems. It's no big deal if you change your mind and go back to the poly stock eventually, just keep the extra triangle in a parts box.

In my case, I specifically bought the 104 to turn into a sort of frankenstein 80s AKS74 after watching 9th company.
