>The event, attended by both civilian and military aircraft, has represented an unbelievable opportunity for aviation enthusiasts from all around the world to photograph some of the world’s rarest combat planes, including the North Korean Air Force Mig-29 Fulcrum, Su-25 Frogfoot, Mig-21Bis Fishbed, Mi-8T Hind and Y-5s.

>Among the aircraft that took part in the air show, there was also a formation of four Hughes 500E helicopters: exposed in 2013 during the traditional flying parade over Pyongyang, the North Korean “Little Birds” have long been surrounded by mystery. There were no images that could prove their presence in DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) in spite the news that they had been illegally supplied to the regime had been unveiled in the ’80s.

they cant possibly be modern variants
>>
>>31471161
The Fulcrums are mostly for show, and they don't have many of them if my memory serves me correct.

During the Cold War, the Communist countries had an economic network. North Korea wasn't as impoverished as it has been in the last nearly 3 decades. Sure, it wasn't South Korea, Japan, Honk Kong, or Singapore, but it wasn't *today's* North Korea.

They had some (relatively speaking) cutting-edge tech until the end.

As far as I remember they've got mig-29Ks. So relatively decent. Whether they've actually been maintained or not who the fuck knows.

Yes, and the Cold War ended in 1990, give or take.

What would a MiG-21 even be used for in modern warfare?

Light attack aircraft?

You're certainly not gonna be doing air superiority missions.

What the fuck is better than using two jet engines to put out fucking fires? That's baller as fuck, yo.

...think about that for a second.

Just because a jet can use the engines to provide thrust to go supersonic does not mean the same engines can push a stream of water faster than air can move out of the way at ground level.
>>
>>31471748
>>31471748

It would be used only for ground attack missions.

During Cold War, South Korea was like an african state, my father for work visited S.K. at time, and he always said "it was a shithole of third world"
N.K at time has economic relationship with all the east bloc, not only with China and Russia.

>>31473729
If the engines provide enough thrust to push a plane to supersonic speeds maybe the exhaust is pushing air faster?

There have been comments regarding the upgraded MiG-21 Bison from India still being a decent air to air threat.

>Upgraded version for export, the Indian Air Force being the first customer. Equipped with the Phazotron Kopyo (Spear) airborne radar, which is capable of simultaneously tracking 8 targets and engaging 2 of them with semi-active radar homing air-to-air missiles, such as the Vympel R-27. The radar also enables the fighter to deploy active radar homing air-to-air missiles such as the Vympel R-77 when an additional channel is incorporated. Russia has claimed that this version is equivalent to the early F-16. The Indian Air Force has since then upgraded its avionics with the addition of Helmet Mounted Sight (HMS), ability to fire High Off-Boresight missiles like the R-73 (missile) and Tactical Data Link, improving further its already formidable WVR Combat capability, and has performed very well even against F-15C Eagles in Cope India and Red Flag Exercises.

DPRK air force atm is:

~30 MiG-29's
~60 MiG-23's
~200 MiG-21/J-7's
~100 MiG-19/J-6s
~100 MiG-17/J-5s
~40 Su-7's
~30 Su-25's

North Korea attempted to acquire 36 Chinese JH-7 Strike fighters a while back but got denied. Relations however are improving with Russia at the expense of China, with Russia recently providing Kh-35 anti-ship missiles. As a result there are hopes in DPRK to acquire ~40 Su-30's or Su-35's
>>
>>31480635
Holy fuck, i thought that they had mig 17s, 21s and maybe 1 mig 29 (you know that green one). Everybody seems to forget that when the USSR was alive Norks had a way of getting new tech.

>i thought that they had mig 17s, 21s and maybe 1 mig 29
For real though that's pretty much what they can put up in a scramble, everything else is just on paper. In reality their entire air force is more or less rotting in the open air, satellite footage shows they have hundreds of airframes sitting in overgrown vegetation so most of their numbers are practically useless.

Not really recent info but the link below will give you a general but decent idea of how strong the North Korean Air Force is in modem time and also, some more info of the Mig 29 which North Korea is using.
