dont use the cleaning rod it came with, i think its high carbon and will scratch your bore.

You really should get a full-length cleaning rod for milsurps, either plastic-coated steel/brass, or carbon-fiber.

i use the steel rod my rifle came with, but i use the muzzle protector as well which keeps the rod centered and away from the bore

8x57 is probably the cheapest ammo, since you can still get some surplus; Turkish Mausers are the cheapest long Mausers in that caliber. The big 4 Mauser calibers all cost about the same with new-production ammo.

Just picked up this dou stamped Russian capture a few days ago. Of course its been refurbished but it looks beautiful compared to the other Russian captures I've seen. I already have a sight hood and cleaning rod coming in the mail.

Nah man that's not that good of a deal on that if the stock was refinished. With a refinished stock it wouldn't be worth too much. I would say though that if you bought a K-31 over a mauser it wouldn't be a bad choice most K31s will outshoot a mauser and they are a well made rifle.

Hey can we talk about c96 too i mean they are mausers as well. I am going to get one next paycheck and unfortunately the only one local is in less than stellar condition. Is gunsinternational a trust worthy site? Im looking for one in the 1500ish range and they've got one that's bretty spot on 1500. Any other site recommendations or things to look out for?

Turkish ones usually have a crescent moon stamped on the receiver ring or barrel. Is that a big-old dent in the stock just fore of the rear sight?

Not really. It re-set every year. You can sometimes get an approximation based on the features and sometimes the markings.

Halp, /k/! What's the deal with pitting? Picked up an M48A recently and there's some pitting in about the last 1/8th of the barrel. Crown still looks decent though. Was hoping to use it as a deer rifle...

My M24/47 shoots like shit. Maybe it's just me. I love her, but she's mostly for fun, and I might try deer too. Unless your gun is throwing rounds all around, you can probably make her work.
