What CZ should I buy? These all look really similar desu. I was sure I wanted the CZ-75 and then I went out to the store and saw like 5 models. Favorite full-size CZ?

I like the B model for the bevel on the front.

Though some day I'd like to put a spur hammer on a SP01 just because.

All of them can have 17rd magazines by the way.

>>
>>31469969
I would reccomend a CZ 75B
if you want the decocker model, get the CZ 75BD
if you're willing to sacrifice money and weight for a stainless steel version, they have one of those too.
if you don't like the trigger, get a CZ 75B in SAO
if you've never shot one, go to a range that rents them.

>>
>>31470419
Weight has almost nothing to do with your height, but if you want a lighter weight one, just get one of CZ's polymer pistols, like the P-09 or P-07.
>>31470927
>If you want DA/SA but polymer frame, there's always the FNX9, it's an excellent tupperware shooter, 17+1 capacity.
The FN FNX9, as well as the HK P30, P30L, P2000, USP and USP Compact are all considered good alternatives/additionals for people who otherwise like the CZ 75.
>>

>>31471139
That's your problem, though. If you lay it out in a spreadsheet, CZ's naming system is relatively transparent and uniform, with a few exceptions. Certainly no less uniform than HK's system and quite a bit more transparent.

For example, with HK, I have to memorize that "v2" stands for DA/SA with left-handed decocker/safety on a USP, "v3" stands for DA/SA with right-handed decocker-only on a USP, but "v2" stands for LEM on a P2000, which is a totally opaque and non-uniform naming system.

With CZ, the "D" tips me off with no memorization required that a gun is a "decocker" model, although ambidexterity is a little less transparent. The 85's will always be ambi, but many of the newer models, like SP-01 and those with the Omega trigger systems at least have ambi safeties and reversible mag catches, while the 75B and regular P-01 are for righties only.

The Glock system is totally opaque. There is no correlation between the model numbers and caliber or size. There is no part of "20" that has any relation at all to the caliber 10mm or the size of the gun, and likewise, no part of 17 that tells you that it's a 9mm or what size it is.

At least with the S&W system you brought up, there is a uniform system that they used that, once memorized, can tell you the frame material, color, caliber, size, firing system and decocker style. It's not 100% uniform (for example the 5906 is steel frame, but 6906 is alloy frame), but you can generally predict all of a handgun's specifications from the model name without even needing to see it in person.

Love the idea ever since watching Gunsmith cats, but be real with me, how do you go about your day like that when you enter an establishment that doesnt allow for carry and you have to take off your outer layer (jacket, etc), or just in general not attract attention or find yourself uncomfortable? is it just your cold weather carry? how does one get used to it? sorry for all the questions, but i think its badass and i need to know what gives

Ask this question in another thread and didn't get an answer so here goes:

I'm thinking of buying a used Interarms CZ from Bud's in a month or so and I wanted to know what they mean by "significant signs of use"; I'm thinking heavily worn finish, maybe bare metal in some spots, and some dings & scratches, not deep gouges, but otherwise the frame, internals, etc. should be gtg. Can anyone who bought one recently tell me what yours looked like and whether I'm over or underestimating the wear and tear?
>>
>>31475479
From what I've seen, the used examples sold by Buds tend to be pretty damn beat up; honestly I would seek out a better source
>>
>>31475490
Do you have any? I've fallen for the memes and want a CZ as a first pistol, the fact that these are pretty cheap and already beat appeals to me, and if I fuck it up them I'm not out too much cash and won't feel bad.
>>
>>31475513
I have a full size BD that I ended up buying new, but I strongly considered getting a used one while I was looking around. Excellent gun all around, never had a single hiccup thus far.

Although buying used is perfectly viable, always try to see the exact gun you'll be buying before you actually make the purchase, preferably not a bulk shipment like Buds. If you're really strapped for cash, clones (italian, israeli, etc..) are usually pretty damn good in their own right.
>>
>>31469976
That's a pretty gun, anon.
>>
>>31475537
I was actually looking at a Tanfoglio or Tristar before Bud's got their shipment in, but my inner autist is screaming at me to get a "real" CZ. Anyway, assuming I buy one from Bud's, what should I look out for when I look the thing over? I want to know what to look out for so that, in case something is really wrong, I can have the shop return it ASAP.

I was seriously considering getting a tristar and the only reason I chickened out of saving $100 over a real CZ is that I was paranoid about the fit and availability of replacement parts. Be sure to ask your FFL of choice to either field strip the pistol yourself or have him do it before accepting the transfer

Here's a comprehensive list of things to check:
>Slide locks back on empty
>Safety is functional
>Double Action is functional
>Single Action is functional
>Magazine release is functional
>check interior frame/slide rails for damage
>inspect for any external dents or cracks
>sight alignment
>locking lugs on barrel and slide
>bore
>feed ramp

Also, since this pistol will be extremely well used, I would recommend changing the following, regardless of working order (when changing springs, be sure to do the ignition system (firing pin spring and hammer spring) simultaneously to avoid ignition problems):
>Trigger Return Spring/ Trigger Pin
>Recoil Spring
>Firing Pin Spring
>Hammer Spring

And last but not least, field strip the pistol, remove the firing pin from the slide, and generously clean with Gun Scrubber (or something similar)

I have a CZ that struggles to extract properly. the spent case doesn't leave the chamber before the next round wedges it in. I don't think it's an extractor issue because it ejects and feeds unfired rounds just fine. so it's the mags or the feed ramp? I'm not sure. first thought was of course that it was the ammo, but it's had the same issue with three different brands.
>>

My sp-01 ran flawlessly out of the box and only became picky when I worked it over for production division and put an 11lb mainspring in it. My DA is around 6.7 lbs and my SA is around 2.5lbs but it will only reliably ignite federal primers. Every other primer I can expect around 2 or 3 light strikes out of 300 rounds or so but they're usually at the worst possible moment.
In short, send it back to cz for warranty work and stop dicking with it if you don't know what you're doing.

Tristar is just an importer for Canik pistols and Kral shotguns. If you're comfortable with a Canik it's a good purchase. Their customer service is in Kansas somewhere so parts isn't a problem. I would avoid used Tristar pistols (just my experience), people beat the shit out of them like Hertz Mustangs. The shotguns can take most of the abuse except probably their AR shotgun.

If someone has a KRX post it because they look cool.

Here's what a $300 CZ 75 looks like: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/585449689

If you want to pay just a little more, around $350 will get you something a little nicer: http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/587266365
(Note: this one doesn't come with a magazine, so you will have to factor in spending $40 additional to the listed price for that + shipping)

If you want to spend around $400, you can get a nice transitional model in like new condition: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/586133905

I would strongly caution against buying a "fair" or "poor" condition surplus firearm sight-unseen if you care at all what the gun looks like.

>>31475513
>I've fallen for the memes and want a CZ as a first pistol, the fact that these are pretty cheap and already beat appeals to me, and if I fuck it up them I'm not out too much cash and won't feel bad.
I've owned quite a few surplus "pre-B" CZ 75's and the internal condition can be highly variable from gun to gun. I have gotten guns that looked ugly but internally just worked, but I've also gotten guns that needed every single spring replaced in order to function without any problems. I'd recommend buying a new SP-01 if you are buying your first gun and want to do it right the first time. They seem to receive an extra degree of fitment and finishing work at the factory than even a standard 75B.

>assuming I buy one from Bud's, what should I look out for when I look the thing over?

1. Carefully inspect the slide and frame for cracks.

2. Check for any damage to the barrel: dings at the muzzle, any abornalities to the feed ramp.

3. Check for slide-to-frame wobble (there shouldn't be much), and slide-to-barrel wobble (there may be just a bit).

4. Do all serial numbers match?

5. Look for any potentially aftermarket parts that are installed on the gun and check their fitment. I have seen aftermarket sights that were installed incorrectly and fell off when I took the gun shooting.

6. Field strip the gun and check for abnormal wear inside the gun on moving parts. Definitely check the slide and frame rails, as well as the barrel and slide locking lugs.

7. Check for functionality: Here are some sample questions to ask yourself. The more used guns you buy, you'll learn to check for all sorts of different things that can go wrong:
a. Does the slide cycle smoothly with no stickiness or hang-ups? (potential problem if no)
b. Do magazines hold the slide to the rear when empty? (minor issue if no, can be fixed with a new spring)
c. Do magazines have serious problems inserting? (don't worry if they don't drop free, with early CZs that's normal)
d. Do all levers and controls function as they should? Slide stop should hold back the slide even if you shake the gun (minor issue if no: spring replacement can fix). Safety should only engage with hammer cocked (potentially serious issue if not like this, probably requiring multiple parts replacement to fix).
e. Cock the hammer and put the safety on. Can you push the hammer forward and make it drop without touching the trigger? (potentially serious issue requiring multiple parts replacement to fix).
f. Put a pencil or wooden dowel down the barrel and pull the trigger. Does it fly out of the muzzle? If no, check firing pin.
g. Any abnormalities with trigger pull or reset when dry-firing the gun?

Thanks for the advice, I have to say the $300 has a lot more finish wear than I thought it would, though I was going to re-blue the one I'm buying anyway so it's kind of a bonus if it does end up having as little finish left. Anyway, you're right in that I probably shouldn't buy a really worn one without looking at it but I'm definitely going to look it over before approving the transfer, and if it does show something majorly wrong/ugly (i.e. cracked frame, deep gouges, worn lugs, etc.) or is non-functional in some way (safety, DA, or SA) then I'll just go for a return/refund. And I think I'll be hunting through gunbroker for other deals because the $350 is pretty nice.

Are you planning to re-blue it yourself? Keep in mind that the original finish on 95% of CZ 75's is not bluing, but a paint-over-parkerized type finish, and I'm not sure how easy that is to remove.

Buying a beater and then spending money to refinish it can be a game of diminishing returns. Pic related cost me around $400 and it has basically all of the original finish left on it, in this case it's a polished blued finish and looks good without needing to be refinished.
>>
>>31479701
Also, in reality you're not likely to receive a gun that is actually non-functional. These are surplus firearms that were originally owned by some agency that originally depended on them for daily use. Most likely scenario is you receive a gun that needs all new springs and ejects brass erratically or something of the like.

I'm not sure where you're going with this. You do realize that CZ has improved their finish quite a bit over the years, right? Modern polycoat is on the same level as cerakote, whereas old CZ's were finished with a very basic paint over parkerizing, which had good corrosion resistance, although it didn't take holster wear very elegantly. Other service pistols being produced at the time, like the Beretta 92s and Sig P226 were finished in a simple matte blue, which had less corrosion resistance than paint over parkerizing.

I'm not sure why that person recommended the P-01 Omega with a decocker. You can just get a regular P-01 if you want a decocker. The P-01 Omega is the only way you can get (if you want it) a compact CZ 75 with a rail and a thumb safety.

As for demanding sources for CZ's polycoat formulations. You're not going to find any because CZ doesn't publish this information. Other gun manufacturers don't publish the information about their finishes either.

theres been no uproar about cz improving or decreasing in quality in the past decade

you can get a 9mm Witness P for $260 right now, the only CZs cheaper than that are ancient milsurps that barely even work. only the really high end competition models like the Stock III Extreme will cost you over $1000, even steel frame 10mms will rarely run you over $500.

I owned one for a while, then eventually traded it away. It's just a standard CZ 75B with standard internal parts. The bluing was not particularly impressive either, with some machining marks not being completely buffed out. Also, the weird way that each rollmark on the gun was done with a different method of engraving/stamping/etching always bugged me (see next photo I'll post too, every single rollmark is done differently).

I recently picked up an SP-01 with night sights for $645 shipped and it's a much better gun. It feels like the internals are all polished and smooth - it has the smoothest trigger pull out of the box for any CZ I've ever owned. The finish looks clean and smart. The checkering on the front and back of the grip is superior. The safety being ambi and slide stop being extended are a plus. Biggest perk of all is that the trigger lever itself feels much flatter and more controllable than the standard CZ 75 trigger, which would normally feel thin and rounded.

only time ive ever had any failures was after using my .22lr slide, which being .22 was getting waxy gunk everywhere causing the slide to lock back prematurely. it performed flawlessly being using that thing.

recoil is crisp but manageable, you can definitely feel how much power is being transferred and its not something you can deliver rapid follow-up shots with, but nobody that shoots heavy rounds like .357 magnum insist that you double tap 100% of the time. i have a Springco dual stage guide rod spring installed which helps reduce recoil a bit, though its at most a 20% reduction and mostly just keeps the slide from slamming into the frame on full-power loads.
