/ktg/ Knife Thread General #42: Camping Edition
Previous thread: >>31420357

All other knife related subjects come here.

OP pic is a tanto style camper. Looks nice enough for $200.
>>
Is there a point in getting a knife as a deterrent in a self-defense situation? For example, if a single person tries to rob and/or assault me?
>>
>>31469260
The issue is escalation of force. You don't know if your assailant is capable of meeting you with equal or greater force. Then there's the issue of state laws. If your assailant is not using force that can be reasonably seen as deadly force and a knife is considered a deadly weapon then you could be on the wrong side of the law.

I would see use of a knife as a weapon of last resort and only then if you can catch your assailant off guard.
>>
>>31469353

Those are the issues I had in mind, thanks for clarifying.
>>
>>31469128
Winkler knives would be perfect if it werent for the fact they come unsharpened. Everything else about my belt knife is perfect. The balance and weight is just unlike any ither knife ive owned.

If any anons are in the higher spending range consider getting one of his knifes. DO NOT get any of the axes, overated and small as shit. Not worth the money.
>>
>>31469260

Yes, but a spray or even rat poison and a kick in the balls would work better.

Knife will get you lots of legal trouble

Is that a production line by the guy I posted knives? I'm just browsing bladeforums and coming across some new nice looking knives.
>>
>>31469260
yes, the point is not get robbed or your ass kicked. defend yourself first, worry about laws later....
>>
>>
>>31473185

You can get in more trouble than losing your valuables though, at least where I live (Eastern Europe). The police can confiscate your knife, charge you a fine greater than what you would have lost by mugging and put you in jail without much hassle for at least two months.

The ideal scenario would be to use the knife as a deterrent to avoid the confrontation all together, but I haven't been in enough of these situations to tell whether this actually works, hence the question.

do i go full titanium or cf/ti?
>>
>>31475145
Go ahead get that titanium.
>>31474836
Even more reason to watch it. I would look up your self defense and knife laws to be sure, but I'll fall back on my previous statement as an example.

I live in a state with castle doctrine, meaning you break into my house while I'm here it's automatically assumed you're up to no good and my life is in danger. I would first resort to using my bedside .45. IF that fails for any reason and I cannot get to another firearm, then I would resort to a knife. The issue I would have, even though I'm defending myself, is if I intended to maim any individual who enters my home rather than defend myself and family. It's still iffy.

Listen up faggots, it's time you face the facts and realize the Cold Steel Espada XL with polished aluminum and g10 is the best knife ever constructed in terms of speed, POWER, and strength. Stop buying shitty knives. Stop posting shitty knives. BUY AN ESPADA XL NOW!
>>

Go away, Lynn.
>>

Tsk tsk tsk. Why do you post such trash? Is it a joke or something? Objectively, the COLD STEEL ESPADA XL in polished aluminum and g10 is superior in every way

I decided to give back the knife I like to masturbate with back to my ex gf since technically it was hers.
I kind of need a new one.
Does anyone make blades that look like a klingon knife that isn't like junk/replica kind of status? iirc sometimes they're spring loaded on the show though so I was thinking they might not be legal.
>>
>>31476267
I'm literally shaking right now because the power is too great for mere mortals to contain. But, I pray to Lynn and he gives me strength to wield such a weapon.
>>

But can the power match up to Microtech's 3x?

Kind of like the scales. Reminds me of ctek. What's the steel on it? Personally don't care for the whole Iraqi Freedom thing.
>>
>>31476851

Same shit he comes up with. He already gone into discussion about that crap once. He said it wouldn't change how he made sling shots.

Plus he is hasguns, so not like he needs to make a sling shot for that.
>>
>>31476298

Did you steal that knife?
>>
>>31476989
Pretty sure it's AUS-8, have a chance to get it for 15 bucks. Just not sure it's worth it.
>>
>>31477028
$15? Sure, go for it. Not sure what the quality would be since it's CRKT, but it's not like you're taking a major hit in funds.

>>
>>31477073
It's $15. You get what you pay for. And they're rather hit or miss. I looked up your Knife and it says they were going for $18 and made of Chinese steel, so another flag if you're looking for a reliable knife. If you just want it for aesthetic reasons, which I can understand, then get it.

I'm not a tactical guy.

I want to get a Douk Douk and a Svord Peasant soon.
>>
>>31477489

Opinel can look so damn sexy when modded. I find their stock models to be ugly as fuck.
>>
>>31477648
I'm considering some mustard patina pattern as well. Thought about some drawing on the handle but I don't want to look too overdone.

I prefer how it looks now, but I modded it because opening a stock model when the moisture/water gets on the handle is a fucking nightmare.
>>
>>31477684

That's what I hear a lot when it comes to getting wet.

Patinas can come out pretty nice. Handle Def needs some work.

This is the one I dig. Simple, not over done.
>>
>>31477710
Neat.

Mine is carbon. I wanted to get an Inox one and try to make a plastic handle to build an outdoors friendly Opinel, but I'm almost clueless about how to proceed, just considered 3D printing.
>>
>>31477786
I think they have plastic handle opinels already.
>>
>>31477855
Saw them, DIY, Explore and Outdoors.

I don't like any fo them. I just want the classic blade with the classic handle, but made of plastic.
>>
>>31477894
Why not use a paint with water sealant?
>>
>>31477916
The opening problem is already solved on mine, used sandpaper to remove the original coating then soaked it in linseed oil for two days. Also the shape makes opening it easier.

Now that I think about it I could make some steel liners and go with an open design to make the cleaning easier.

Fuck I'm tempted to buy more Opinels just to mod them.
>>
>>31477950
Try a prototype first before you go crazy.

That knife is mall ninja, ugly as fuck knife.

Rat 1 and 2 are good choices. Cheap, as 8 steel with a good heat treat, g10 scales. You can buy two for 50 bucks. Pic related.
>>
>>31481186
It's a simplistic beauty with only one purpose. Also a really high price tag at $750.

Ontario rat 1 or 2

Most commonly recommended because they've earned it.

No problem. Pic related are the rat model 1 and Spyderco persistence. Ignore the shitty handwriting, mechanics is not fun.

The persistence fits better in pocket, but the rat is a damn tank. You can also argue the relative merits of aus8 and Cr13mov, but they both perform very well.

Rats not a bad choice at all man, just a bit thick in my opinion.
>>
>>31482921
If you're looking for easy to sharpen and not bad steel look at Kershaw and buck. Buck uses 420hc with a patented heat treatment. Kershaw at that price point look for their knives in 14c28n steel. It's just about the same steel in razor blades. Easy to sharpen to a wicked edge, but the draw back is edge retention.
>>
>>31477489
I love the (mid-size) Opinel my dad left me. It has to be 30-40 yrs old.
