You need to remove the pistol grip before you start.

Be careful which triangle you buy since some of them use a 4.5mm pin and others use a 5.5mm pin. Not interchangeable unless you bore out the smaller one which is not advisable.

>>
>>31460647

Bulgarian triangles are unobtanium, unless you buy the SLR with the triangle stock, (which is original bulgarian) a russian 4.5mm is the one that will fit.
>>
>>31460759
eeeeh Bulgarian stocks are a great deal less commonly seen floating around for sale but calling them unobtanium is definitely a stretch
>>
>>31460146

I snagged a 51 Tula for $350 from a local classified page, its in pretty good shape besides some black pitting on the bolt carrier, it's a light refurb I presume.

Stock is a replacement from a 54 tula, and the bayonet is like a matte chrome color which I believe was done during refurb.

And of course has the box with a slash from the Ukrainian refurb facility, everything is original besides the stock which is forced matched obviously.
does yours have the early style bolt? these don't have a extractor retaining pin, you can remove the extractor with your hand easily, would like to buy a spare but can't find them anywhere.
>>
>>31460799

Try to find one for sale on google, I can't find a single one for me.
>>
>>31460850
having the stock match was critical for me
I'm not sure about the extractor because the gun isn't in my hands yet. '51 is early on the SKS production timeline so it's possible.
I've seen better non-refurbs but they usually go for $1000 or more.

>>31460863
Bruh, not being able to find one for sale on google is not what qualifies something as unobtanium. Kvar used to sell these on their website. That's where I bought mine. The reason why there are so many Russian triangle folders now is because the Russians have figured out they can make money off their junk parts by selling them to Americans. ~5 years ago the Russian stocks were actually less common than the Bulgarian ones. Lurk AKfiles and one will come up eventually. They're definitely out there.

What scope mount should I get for my Vepr? It's in .30-06 so could I still get the Russian style and adjust it or should I get a side mount with a picatinny rail?

I'm thinking about getting Midwest industries side mount for the picatinny option.

I'm not sure what I should look for on the POSP side of things, but I'm interested in that too.

You're gonna zero the center so it hits at whatever distance you zero it for, let's use 100m as an example. Now just learn where each spot is gonna hit for .30-06. It'll be something you just have to deal with, they don't make Russian scopes in American calibers, but 7.62x54r is pretty easy to equate to .30-06

Yea the range finder is a different system than the windage and bullet drop. Honestly the windage/lead one will be the one that fucks you up more than drop, but it probably won't matter too much anyways since you're not going into battle or taking the VEPR to 800 yards anyways

AK collectors are fucking crazy.

Example: I bought this 1983 Izzy kit in 2014 for $660 and ordered a 74u LLC receiver that is *finally* about to be finished after a two year wait. My friends think I'm fucking crazy for being so OCD about details instead of just buying an Arsenal, but they also haven't seen the exact same kits (sans sling and bayonet) going for over $2,000 on Gunbroker lately like I have.
>>
>>31463003
I'm pretty sure, Primary Arms even has their ACSS scope labeled as 5.56 or 5.45 so I imagine it wouldn't be hard. You can technically zero any scope to any caliber, it's just gonna be your mildots or whatever fancy shit is in the scope won't be perfect

>>
>>31463238
Minor parts exemption doesn't apply to guns not on the VRA approved list, but I get the sense you're avin a laff.

It would be worth a shot depending on how much they charged you. Since they are rare even for Russia, I'm guessing it would be a lot.
>>
>>31463253
Definitely, and if I really did have the chance I would at least send a mail to the ATF anyways since the worst they can do is say no. If you could get even luckier you'd have someone in Russia blueprint it and send you a CAD file to throw in a CNC mill
>>
>>31461821
Explain this shit
>>
>>31463272
As someone who works in the industry, I can tell you it's a hard no. Also, don't bother sending letters to the ATF unless you have 6 months to burn. Better off calling them, having them transfer you to a specialist, then leaving a voice message. They'll get back to you in a week.

Honestly, you might be able to ask the manufacturer. If it's not still in production, sometimes they don't give a shit.
>>
>>31463301
If I spoke Russian and were willing to pay the money for an international call maybe. It's made by Tula though so who knows, maybe you could even Email them

Bayonets are an important part of psychological warfare. There's nothing quite like being on the pointy end of a bayonet; totally kills one's morale.

In terms of their use as a weapon directly, they were more crucial when lower capacity magazines and longer reloads could turn the tables. It makes a whole lot of sense to have one on your person if you are using a bolt action. For the modern detachable magazine rifle it's more for utility and psyops.

So now I'm stuck with another kit I don't want that I have to sell, but it let me cut in line and get a 74u receiver without the wait. I'll probably send it off as soon as I can. TIGR and Dragunov are more like 15k on the low end last I heard. There's a TIGR barrel on AKFiles right now going for 1500 on its own
>>
>>31470632
Tigrs are nowhere near $15k. $5k is a good estimate on Tigrs if you're looking for the "readily available" price. You can get them cheaper if you look around. I know Flandre paid much less than that for both of his.
>>
>>31470653
not that guy....
I thought Flanders built his from parts kits. I could be wrong. Diddily.
>>
>>31470653
Yea I saw the link above me right as I posted that, so I must be way off. What was the price the last time a real Dragunov sold though, does anyone know off the top of their head?

You're wrong, no such thing as a Dragunov parts kit build. He has two and they're both Tigrs.

Oh ok. I could have sworn I saw pics he posted of parts and him talking about finding a guy that could build receivers for them. He might have been trolling too.

Let's take these out, they aren't advantages or superiority on my end.

>Lighter
Okay, that is a net benefit but the little bit of extra weight will at least make the gun shoot a bit nicer. Lighter is probably just better though really.
>Parts commonality
Like what? I have a tricked out AR so I got an AK with wood furniture because I want that "classic" look. What parts do you mean?

What about this?

Yeah he has a lot of spare parts but that's not unusual. I think he wants to convert one to an SVD type gun (possibly with the longer barrels from oilcan?) and convert the other one to an SVDS using an SVDS receiver stub and parts he got from a Russian. So yes he does have a lot of spare parts but I haven't heard anything about building one from scratch. Keep in mind the receiver and bolt carrier and bolt would all have to be fabricated, have to make sure you use the right steel and have the right heat treat, kind of a long shot.

Actually shooting an SVD at Nuggetfest kind of killed my boner for one. I truly appreciate the guy letting me shoot it but I didn't walk away saying "holy shit I have to have one of these"
>>
>>31470833
Even with wood furniture you're gonna need to buy for a milled gun. So that means getting shitty Hungarian stuff (I believe) or buying new manufacture that looks like shit. No pretty Russian shellac 4 u. I wanna say the weight difference is almost a pound overall but someone correct me there. A smoother action due to fitting means you can fuck with it to make it nicer like on an AR sure, but your choices of milled are a SAM7 from Arsenal, and my stamped from them is pretty damn smooth anyways. Or a C39V2 which is a Century monkey build, don't expect quality from them

Anybody here have any experiance with the SLR-106FR. Im buying one dirt cheap. Im a police officer and GA and we sell off some of the guns we confiscate. Basically we confinscate them for various reasons like of they were carried in the comission of a crime or bought with the funds from a Crime. We got an SLR106 off a guy who was selling coke. He carried it in the car he was pulled over in. Had like 8 kilos of cocaine. Case is over he was convicted now the gun is ours and we sell it. I got the gun for $500. Its got 18 circle 10 30rd mags and 4 clear 20rd mags. I pick it up tomorrow. Ive got other AKs but this is my first in 5.56 and my first arsenal. Anyone got more info on the upside or downside of the guns?
>>
>>31470886
Fuck you nigga that's like 500 dollars in magazines alone. Decent gun though, just check the serial range some of them had problems
>>
>>31470897
W
Its a lot of mags. He kept them in kroger bags with the gun but only the 20rds were loaded. What types of problems?
>>
>>31470833
Arsenal milled rifles are super nice, no doubt. I thought mine was a level nicer in every regard and the trigger was fantastic. It wasn't that much smoother, but It does cycle different, feels more solid. The balance is a little off with polymer stocks

You just have to be aware of the milled style stocks it accepts, drop down like an AK-47, or the side folder that Arsenal offers. Outside of that you'll have to get creative and hunts own rare Bulgarian parts or weld some shit together.

If you can get a good deal on a SA93 or 95, go for it.

You fucking lucked out. I got mine almost new for $900 with a case and 4 Bulgarian mags. I love mine and I shoot it the most of all my ak's and everything my family has, including a SCAR 17 and PTR91. Mags are a but more pricey, but stick with black Beryl magazines and black Circle 10 mags and you'll be fine, don't mess with any clear mags as they do crack. 2k rounds on mine, no malfunctions.

That's what I bought, $700, used but basically new, looks new.
Identical to this one. So you think this was a bad choice? I've not shot an AK just thought I'd pick one up.
>>
>>31470886
Some of these guns also had feeding issues with them which required arsenal to cut a more pronounced feed ramp on the barrel. Mine has been done before I got it. FRs were pretty much good to go, but I hear the short barrel versions had issues. If you have 18 mags already you should be good for now. When you get it take some photos of the feed ramp and chamber area as well as the bolt, I'm interested to see if Arsenal messed with yours at all.

Ahahaha, and this is what you want to use to argue FOR milled. They use a bunch of cast parts where they're not supposed to be used, it's not even going to have the same durability as a stamped WASR most likely. I'd replace your bolt and carrier and hope for the best mate

Calm down mate, it's banter. The milled vs stamped shit has seemed to pick up in the past few days. But I would legitimately replace your bolt and carrier since last I recall Century's in house ones are cast. You can't do anything about the rest of the parts they skimped on

sort of.
the bolt carrier isn't supposed to do any damage to the rear trunion, but as you can see in this still from AKOU's latest video, sometimes it does. so in this case a buffer could help.

Not just that, those retarded bits of fuddlore that had previously been long since buried are also popping up again.

>Stamped = receiver goes to shit after "only a few years"

I'm hoping it's just the same few retards that are in full post-purchase rationalization mode after coughing up $1500 for some SAM-7s, but I'm seeing it with some degree of regularity now.

Mak90, yugo, opap/npap, wasr, Atlantic polish build, DDI, unconverted Veprs are about the only ones in your price range. I don't know what price range the palmetto aks are in, since they are sold out, and it didn't have the price listed. If you can, save up your money and you can get arsenal or definitive arms in the $1000-1300 range, if you can find them in stock. For the price range, veprs is your best choice

>>
>>31470678
Supposedly it's slightly more accurate because it's more rigid, but it's probably so little a difference that you won't notice most likely. Milled is stronger so it will stand up to more force, but will crack while stamped is not as strong, but will flex more before breaking. If any of that has merit, then there you go.
