I'm looking at getting a first gun and I feel like I should dive into a cheap "build your own AR" before anybody tries to pull another clinton ban.

I've never purchased a firearm before, but I live in a super gun friendly state (Idaho), so what's the general procedure for procuring the parts and whatnot? Should I stick to mostly online retailers?
Also, are bump-stocks insanely expensive?

You won't hit anything and you'll waste tons of ammo while making your gun ugly as hell.

As for the rest, just buy a stripped lower from a gun shop, or maybe even one of those complete lowers if you don't want to install springs, pins, the FCG, etc. yourself, then replace the stock later on.

The rest you can order online. Primary Arms has sales rather often.

Get a larger diameter one.

Proper diameter is more like 1.75" instead of the industry standard 1.5". On an AR though you could probably comfortably go up to 2" if you irons clear it.

Do it. I just made my first AR off of that EXACT kit, and I'm very happy with it. If a chrome lined barrel isn't absolutely necessary for you, this is a good upper for a basic full size AR.

I wanted the option to get an optic if I ever felt like it, and wanted a rear sight that'd be a good buis when I eventually do that...all without having to buy more than necessary.

Plus I dig the way it adjusts for range, and no obstructions around the aperture itself.
