It does absolutely nothing for 99% of people, and the people it might apply to don't want to shoot more than they have to out of precision rifle barrels that have a severely shortened life already compared to regular barrels. Breaking in your barrel does not aid in accuracy or reliability, as evidenced by the fact that we've gotten along just fucking peachy the last 500 years with firearms and not breaking them in.

Some of your lighter loads for .243 will be going pretty goddamn fast and will cause throat wear on the barrel.

If you didn't know, .243 is a .308 case necked down. Combine that with a 60-grain bullet and you get something faster than a cat with fire to it's ass.

Arent most guns test fired at the factory? I know my cz came with a factory target. If thats the case whats the point of "breaking in tbe barrel" if its already had rounds through it.

I could be wrong about firearms getting test fired but i imagine any precision rifle with a guranteed MOA would be

first-time gun owner here.

i took my brand new glock 17 gen 4 to the range just today. it was the first time i've ever fired a gun.

out of the 200 rounds i fired, i got hit in the face by brass 6-10 times. a brass casing also got stuck in the ejection port just once.

i was using federal range and target practice ammo.

is this normal for a new glock, or do i have a lemon?

The procedure for a new bore, when one shoots moly, is to clean the bore to get rid of any factory preservatives, fouling and copper from any test fires. Then go shoot moly coated bullets. Within 10 rounds or so velocities will settle in as the bore will be moly'd.
