The turret is only for identifying and tracking people. Most likley with recording capabilities that don't work. The top has armor, but the doors are thin aluminum and the hood is fucking fiberglass. Maxxpro, MATV, and Cougars have supplanted Humvees for overseas use for many years now.

The only times Humvees get used overseas is places like Egypt which still has 1151s and 1114s.

Or specialized units who strip them down to the bone to use as extremely light vehicles, but even then they mostly use SFMATVs.

They are there to support the civilian police authorities. That is all. So they wouldn't be mowing down any rioters and such. Either way their mount is empty, they don't even have a machine gun up there.

The funny thing about the National Guard and the Governor and all this is the little rules involved. This small NG force is basically a bureaucratic seed crystal allowing for the deployment of larger better armed forces, if that is necessary. So of everything keeps going the way it is where the civilian police force can handle it these NG soldiers won't do a single thing. If they DID apprehend a criminal on the off chance they would hand them right over to the civilians. It's a dog and pony show for the NG at this point.

I was in 1st AD, 2nd battalion, 6th INF from 02-06. 11b all ran Strikers and/or humvees. our 11c platoon ran Humvee and occasionally 1064s. Hard to believe they fazed out the hummer but just checked out MATV and maxxpro on google. Makes sense.

You guys had the 1151 or the FRAG kits on Humvees? Remember how much those destroyed transmissions or your ability to drive up hill? Yeah, that's partially why humvees got phased out. Unarmored humvees were getting rekt too hard, and armored humvees were tearing their own engines apart.

MATVs were also deisnged with CREW and integrated computer stuff like the BFT in mind a litte more, so the interior doesn't become such a cramped cluster fuck when that stuff gets bolted on.

The CROWS (which yes, is what is the in OP picture, minus the gun) system is ok, I guess. I'd say maybe about 1/3 of trucks use it, but most prefer having a manned machinegun still, though almost all the turrets have mechanical swivels now, so you just move left and right with a joystick from the turret.

I get what you mean man. that was a ton of weight added to an engine/transmission that wasn't designed for it. It makes perfect sense to just re-design from the ground up with all the extra shit included from the get go. Purpose built is always better than just adding extra shit to an older design.

yup. the new shit seems to have more room. climbing in a hummer in full battle rattle, squeezing myself over to pull the door shut (I'm 6 foot 8), no head room, knees jammed up, every bump was torture. I really hated those things. Striker wasn't much different but it didn't "bounce" as noticeably, and didn't kill my neck as much.

Yeah, the joystick controls overall turret movement side to side, then you aim the weapon yourself like normal. It's standard because of how huge the turrets are now and because the vehicle was built with it in mind. You can always go manual if the turret battery dies too.
