would this be ok for armor?
>>
Skelly continuing from last thread, different anon, but in your opinion is the PEQ-15 a good peq box? I'm planning on getting a nice pair of gen 3 binocs here soon and I can (ahem) aquire some PEQ 15s anytime I want to. Is it a good platform or in my case would it be worth shelling out for a dofferent DBAL of some kind?
>>
>>31428075
the PEQ-15 is probably one of the best options on the market, good low profile, durable, and easy controls. only downside is its screw mount.
>>
>>31427616

>>

got me curious; is it more than just astronaut foam in the straps?

rig's holding up (literally) - been hanging it from the middle flap as some kind of avant garde tapestry. Ultimately, after a few outings/range trips I've grown pretty fond of it. Slightly edges out the OG 56 in terms of function and, if I had to guess, durability. Time will tell though...

Hello all, I was looking to get into gear, and I found myself in an interesting situation. Since I'm a big guy (for you) I've decided to dress up like Bane for Halloween this year. All of the movie accurate costume stuff is expensive, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and just get actual gear that vaguely resembles Bane's outfit. Can anyone recommend me something that looks like the vest or pants in pic related? Preferably from a vendor that can ship to Indiana by the end of October.

This is very true. I do have next to zero experience in forested or any other type of greener environment. But it does do have its benefits. Having my environment the same shade of brown all year affords me the benefit of only needing to use 1 camo pattern for the whole year. Now I have multimeme because it works well in the southwest US and it was before the military fully adopted it. I do leave my actual gear a solid color for when I dont wear any camo.

>disclaimer: inevitably gonna forget some things

Food & water:
cooking element (esbit or jetboil)
Purification (tablets, Sawyer Mini)
MRE's/Mountain house/ etc
Jerky, GORP, dried shit in general
Water Bottle (because filling/purifying camelbaks is a pain in the ass)

Fire & light:
BICs
Flint n steel
magnifying glass (unlimited fire if there's sun)
headlamp (bring spare batteries)
handheld solar flashlight (only as a backup)

Shelter/Misc:
Tent
Tarp (as >>31430373 stated)
>primarily used as a footprint for your tent, but can be an emergency shelter
Trash bags (couple contractor bags take up virtually zero space while being incredibly strong and versatile)
rope/cord (550 by default, bankline for ultralite)
Sleeping bag
Sleeping Pad (thermarest is GOAT)
Dry bags/sacks (for sleeping bag, clothes, electronics)
toilet paper
baby wipes
AT LEAST TP THOUGH
>make sure you can dig a hole for your shit. Bring trowel if you must
spare socks (2-4 pairs)
Spare undies (2 pairs)
Rain gear unless it's the desert

You'll probably take care of any guns, knives, multitools, ammo, slings, etc...figured I didn't have to cover redundant shit

don't forget to take
salt, sugar, tea or coffee - they're real morale boosters if nothing seems to be going your way.
sleeping bag liner and some thermals- having something nice dry and warm is always nice to have.
Gun care kit - you can use the lube and cloth and steel wool for fire starting.
Small pencil sharpeners - they are ideal for getting dry tender
sandwich bags- use them to waterproof your stuff and if push comes to shove you can use them to store water in emergencies.

...what? Camo is camo dude. There is an objectively measurable capability for camouflage to conceal in any number of given environments. I'm not saying old woodland doesn't work, but this whole "you have to be a spooky ninja to unlock its secrets" business is retarded.
>>
>>31436321
Why the fuck is their famous pc costs $650? It looks like a fucking piece of shit, wouldn't buy even for $200-250.
>>
>>31436311
>>31436374
Think in the way of a soldier, they need to learn how to maximize their camouflage's effectiveness using whatever techniques in required. With my M81, I sit in shaded areas that are for the most part damp and/or muddy; the other important piece is that you remain absolutely still. The result was that I would not be spotted by a person who didn't know that I was there until they were right on top of me.
>>
>>31436423
Yeah, dude ALL camo patterns work better in shaded areas without movement. That's because humans are inherently less capable of distinguinshing physical features in low light and without movement. This isn't specific to M81. What people are saying is that Multicam Tropic probably works better when compared side by side in the same conditions.

So I'm a gearfag nub...

Is my PC shit, or is incomparable with the size large sapi plates?

>>

Can't get to them, they're with wife and baby are sleeping in bedroom.
Did a search for dimensions though and Lrg SAPI plates are 10⅛ x 13¼ in.
When I bought my PC from Banshee they stated it would fit Lrg SAPI plates, or dimensions of 10.5 x 10.5in. and confirmed this over the phone when I ordered.
They've since changed their site to say it accepts up to a 10 x 12in. plate.

New question;

Have sets on sets of size large SAPI plates, whats a good PC under 300 max.

That's a moot point and has nothing to do with what he was saying. That camo pattern is evidently crap in the picture, there are others which are superior to it, and you are purposely deluding yourself into believing otherwise.

The SKD PIG will fit small through XL plates no problem. It's slightly about $300, at about $350, but its super well made and I can confirm it is universal in plate size acceptance.

Most PCs are fitted to a particular plate size. There may have been some confusion between you and the Banshee phone rep, but those carriers are size fitted.

Here is my 2 cents on the AR500 vs ceramics issue and I'll try to be brief

First off with the AR500 there is no reason to buy anything but the 3+ with multicurve and buildup coat, "lightweight" model if you aren't a poor. They will be able to stop 95% of the threats you will realistically face, provided you ever actually get into that situation.

Personally at work I wear the 3+ lightweight multicurves with the buildup for anywhere from 10-14 hours per day and if you wear it properly its not bad, I also have the HSGI shoulder pads which are fuckin clutch. Granted I dont have a full loadout but unless you are overseas doing some serious shit you will not need to have every loop of molle webbed up with a different pouch you havent trained with (giving 70% of you the look right now).

Most likely I will face handguns followed by Jamal with his fancy new Assault Rifle Fit-teen or Juan with his AK Borty-Sebun, which the AR500 plates will stop and bring me to my next point.

Armor is meant to get you off the X and it seems to be a huge misconception that armor will make you some juggernaut that cant just stroll through a firefight. Having said that AR500 will stop most of what you need it to stop. The one thing I do fear is that if Cleatus and his cousin-brother Wilmer come out with grandpappy's 30 06 or some other equally high powered round.

Overall for the price you cannot beat AR500 while still being able to treat it like armor because the last thing you are thinking about when taking it off after 14 hours is being gentle with it and setting it down carefully so not to damage it, which would be a problem with ceramics but only if they land just right.

Now I do have a set of the Triple Canopy ceramics but they mainly just sit on my shelf and while they are lighter and the curves are more ergonomic I still prefer AR500 as my every day plates.

The problem for you is that the armor will never be quite the right size. If you're a tall guy (6' and up) with a moderate size chest (~40") you should be wearing a medium long armor plate, but industry has kind of given up on that size. So you could wear a size Large plate that might interfere with your range of motion, or you could wear a size Medium plate and let your lungs hang out below the bottom edge.

For the plate carrier just size it off the plate. Even if the carrier is "short" it will feel fine.

Not him, but I own both a Beyond PCU Level 5 Glacier Jacket and a Beyond PCU Level 7 Parka. They're pretty nice other than the fact that the stitching on the mesh to hold the pull cords inside the L5 jacket is starting to come loose. You can't expect to stitch on thin mesh and have it hold up for an extended amount of time. Really stupid idea by Beyond desu.

Other than the cool guy factor, it's basically a 350 bone glorified light wind jacket. With Beyond its seems that the price is influenced more by the cool guy factor than the actual functionality desu.

A full armor vest will carry both plates AND soft armor for the torso. The plates are generally your level IV stuff and the soft armor is usually somewhere around IIIA.

A full armor vest gives you a higher level of protection, but at the cost of weight- which means you lose mobility and comfort.

A plate carrier generally carries JUST plates. You lose the soft armor protection, but the weight goes down dramatically.

its pretty easy to get into, hit up under armor and go to best sellers and pick and choose.
