185gr Gold Dots can hit 1075fps out of a 5" barrel pretty easily. Wouldn't be surprised if the right powder could hit around 1150fps staying within SAAMI.

I was at the store the other day and saw a guy ocing a 1911. Ended up striking a conversation and asked him if it was 9mm or 45. He said it was 45 and 9mm was too weak. I said that my 147gr gold dots in my Glock 19 would do the trick. He told me that his 180gr home loads are doing 1600 fps. How retarded is this guy? I asked if he was using cfe and he said yes. The top load on hogdon says 1100 fps.

10 and .40 have different OAL though. I thought .45acp and .460r had the same OAL, while the case length itself is only different in length.

Yes, the top edge of the case is how most pistol rounds headspace in a barrel. .45 in a 460 rowland barrel leaves a .060in gap that throws headspacing off leaving the extractor as the only thing properly holding the case in headspace.

I think I have seen 1220 with 185 grain gold dots. Not mine, but I knew a guy. 1050 with basic 185's isn't even pushing it. I used to get 50 rounds of federal classic 185gr jhp's for like 18 bucks. It was cheaper to shoot hollowpoints than fmj's.

USP's and variants can handle it, as can Boberg subcompacts, XDs, some 1911s and maybe glocks. The Wikipedia article on .45 super has a short list. Essentially anything that has a 460 Rowland conversion kit available and some change.
