Thankfully I never met him, that exchange was from email. I offered a few different things (that made it almost even, instead of a huge advantage to me). It eventually came to him basically pouting and saying "Nope. No longer interested. Bye."

Honestly I just want a pistol and I'm impatient but it would be far more inconvenient for me to tradea this away. I can get a pistol any time and I have many options as far as pistols go that I'd be okay with.
If I traded this, since I'm not 21 I can't buy a lower from a dealer (must be private sale). There's almost no chance I'd find a dedicated colt 9mm lower to buy in a private sale, whereas finding a pistol I like is pretty likely.

As shitty as it is the guy was a cunt about it, sounds like he did you a favor.

What state are you in? If you're in/near the midwest I've got a pretty good network of people here, might be able to locate someone that's both got something you want and willing to deal with you.

Nah I'm in West Virginia. I'm from Maryland and I'm excited to finally be able to get the guns I want and I'm impatient about it, but I'll eventually be able to find something I like.
I probably would've regretted trading this because I really do love shooting it, and I'd like to SBR it some day.

NDA's and stuff for my main job so I can't really discuss.. but my firearm money comes strictly from my animation commissions.

I just got a Gear Sector for my M592v. It attaches to the top rail so you can go 1:30 or 10:30. I like it.

They make mounts for the Scouts as well as simple railed ones I think. Here's them all .

Sorry if wrong thread, but total AR newfag here looking to purchase first one. I has guns, but want to has AR before they start banning shit.

Where should I start gents? Build from scratch (I really like the engraved lowers I see around) or go to local gun store and shell out for a built one/branded one? Also, Wisconsin reporting.

TL,DR
I want an AR, what do?
>>
>>31406773
If you don't care about resell as much (and you want it cheaper) building is the way to go
that said, if you are looking to spend some cash, buying prebuilt higher dollar rifles will yield you proprietary parts (long lasting bolts, better ergos etc)
I would't buy a prebuilt unless it is dd quality+
>>
>>31406785
I want to spend maybe around $1k on the rifle. Ideally I'd be in about $1500 and have the rifle, few hundred rounds of food, and as many mags as I can get
>>
>>31406773
get lower
buy everything else later
>>
>>31406801
what length barrel?
I prefer 16 midlengths
If you get a BCM upper ~550
PSA PREMIUM BCG ~100
anderson lower 60
lpk 50
magpul stock ~40
mbus pro ~100
>>
>>31406801
if you spent a little more you could have a jizz trigger and b5 enhanced (sopmod)
you could trade the magpul stock for a bravo if you wanted a more sopmodish stock also
leaves you around $400 bucks for ammo/mags etc
If you are looking for a cheap optic I'd recommend the aimpoint pro(~370)
>>
>>31406831
>>31406841
Thanks for response, I'm looking to be able to reach out and touch somebody one day so 16"/18" barrel is a good start for me. I have a spare 3x9 leupold off one of my deer rifles to start with, just need scope rings.

I like the flat top uppers with picatinny and the barrel length hand guards I see a lot of you using that are picatinny on all 4 sides.

I get to thinking about building, but then see jackasses on arms list dropping completed ones for $600-800. Like this guy: https://www.armslist.com/posts/5866740/madison-wisconsin-rifles-for-sale--5-45x39--ar15

that particular one is 5.45x39 which is not really what you want (unless of course you do want to shoot 5.45). if you just want an AR and don't care what it is then buy a premade. if you want to play gun legos then you want to build it up yourself and get the parts that you want to get. if you get a premade and replace parts you'll probably end up with a bunch of leftovers to the point you can almost make a whole new gun.
>>
>>31406893
That's more or less the direction I'm leaning, I like the idea of having several uppers and maybe 1 or 2 lowers.

Sorry for all the questions, but what's a good starting point of going premade?
Just want to make sure I don't end up with a lemon/pay too mach. This guy here is selling a couple at what I think is a reasonable price. Just have no clue which one I should be more interested in if it even matters

"oem" guns like aero precision or bcm ones you can get from brownells
colt makes "oem" guns too
they don't have a stock or handguard on them so you can buy one you like
PSA makes cheap rifles but they have slow shipping times
>>
>>31406906
I have been looking at Colt and M&P. They both make some nice AR-15's.
M&P Sport II has a pretty good entry price for a basic rifle.
Colt LE6920 seems to be slightly higher quality entry point.

Those are the two I'm looking at. I like the barrel on the colt more, so if I can find a good deal locally or get them to order one in for a fair price I'm probably getting the Colt.
>>
>>31406930
I just contacted the seller about the M&P, it looks good and is priced pretty nicely so I can afford to feed it and me.
Now where do /k/ get bulk 556?
>>
>>31406942
Cheaper than dirt
>>
>>31406942
You need to think about if you are gonna put a rail on it and stuff, those are carbine lengths and you will just shoot that ammo out in a couple of weeks
I highly recommend you just save up a bit
>>
>>31406942
I'm not /k/ I have just been looking at AR's recently preparing to buy one.
I'm looking at Federal American Eagle 55 Grains.

Brass casing sounds better than steel because it's easier on your barrel.
Also I heard Wolf is dirty and will wear your weapon out quickly.

M&P barrel is a 1:9 twist. I can't get anything definitive but I have read that 40 grain may or may not be reliable. 50+ grain is recommended, and 55 grain seems to be the most popular anyway.

Other than that any ammo should be fine. Just read reviews if in doubt. Compare prices and calculate the price per bullet.
>>
>>31406957
You're probably right, it's late and I'm impatient sometimes. I've been thinking about buying one for a long ass time (was actually going back and forth between a mini14/30, AK, etc before I settled on an AR). I'm worried that guns are going to come up during the debate and Hitlery will start talking gun grabbing and people will start running to the stores
>>
>>31406985
1. casings have nothing to do with barrels
2. Wolf is dirty, but it's not gonna kill you to spray some clp in there every now and then
3. 1 and 9 is fine
4. yes 55 grain is the most common plinker grain
Wolf gold from sgammo, you can thx me later
if you can shoot steel, just get steel, an extractor is like $5
>>
>>31406985

SGammo, get wolf gold. It's the best cheap xm193 clone right now. Made in Taiwan and it's brass. About 32cpr delivered.

Colt is nice and holds value. If you want a freefloat rifle consider spending a little more for a BCM or DD upper or complete rifle. If you want to learn how to upgrade your rifle as you go, then get the basic bitch colt.
>>
>>31406991
I impulse bought a colt 6920, crap finish and fitment (although a nice shooting reliable gun)
don't buy a colt please
>>
>>31406957
What barrel length does Anon suggest?
>>
>>31407040
I prefer 16s
>>
>>31406993
1. You are right. lacquer coated casings aren't popular anymore. That's good to learn.
However, steel casings are always going to be dirtier than brass due to how the metal expands.

3. I never said it wasn't fine. I mentioned the twist has a relation to the ammunition used. Specifically the grain.

Don't want to argue wolf. It's just not my preference.

I will say though that cheaper ammo does wear out barrels faster.

I saw a test conducted that showed running about 6,000 rounds of wolf, brown bear, or tula was about the life of the barrel.
running 10,000 rounds of federal and the barrel was still in tact.
http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/brass-vs-steel-cased-ammo/
>>
>>31407203
and saving 500 dollars in the process of shooting that will buy u a 1/2 moa barrel from the best manufacturer in the country
if you are on a budget and don't reload steel is the best

>carrier tilt is only slightly more
It's non-existent in DI
>weight is only slightly more
Ounces equal pounds
>gun runs cooler and cleaner
You'll have more heat and dirt up front and throughout the piston. I'd rather my gun shit where it eats and clean off my BCG every once in a while than have to deal with cleaning a piston and tube.

There is literally no added benefit to going with a piston system. DI a best.
>>
>>31408526
It doesn't. Where do you think the shit and the heat go? They just magically don't exist because it's not DI? Is that what you think?

The hot gas is pushed out farther up you nigger. Its not a hard concept to understand. The gas leaves earlier so less heat is transferred back into the bolt carrier.
>>
>>31408498
there is effectively no carrier tilt in an in-spec DI AR, you can search for carrier tilt wear - it can completely wreck your buffer tube and retainer pin over time. you'll find plenty of people claiming
>1000 rounds through my piston AR and no problems
not realizing 1000 rounds on an AR is just barely breaking it in, of course theres no wear. the gun runs "cleaner" in the sense that the BCG will be nearly spotless, but you'll have to clean out the piston system which is much more tedious. the weight may only be about half a pound more than a comparable DI system but adding a half pound on a ~7 lb rifle is noteworthy, especially when the benefits are nominal if existent at all.

Building piston uppers can be more problematic than they're worth. If you're set on having a piston gun, it may make more sense to buy complete than to put one together. LMT, HK, LWRC, SIG, and PWS all make piston uppers that are well received.

This of course is assuming that you are ignoring the downsides of a piston gun and still want one

What does ARG think of the idea of a from scratch SAPR in 6.5 Creedmoor as a spotter's rifle (companion to a Ruger Precision Rifle with the same chambering)?

An 18 inch barrel won't take full advantage of the round's powder charge but I wouldn't want anything longer than that if the spotter is the one headed into rooms first to make sure they're clear before setting up a hide.

Has anybody assembled a similar setup? Is there any other way to set an AR up for success at 500+ meter use beyond the obvious: using an adequate chambering, not over-torquing the barrel, using a free float handguard, and generally choosing quality parts?

It's 4 years then ya get 100k here. Sweet gig if you have no family. It was crazy in December, they didn't care if shit got broke. They would get in trouble if they didn't make art their stops

>>31410299

Yeah, I'd like one 2bh. I'll either go with an accupoint or a T1 or T2 though.
>>
>>31410262
I think those look cooler than the MRO, which in my opinion looks dorky with the huge know on top. In addition to looking like a mario pipe on its side.
>>
>>31410262
I'll take that mro for 100 bucks and good vibes for the next 3 months
>>
>>31410325
I'll post my MRO on ebay for $450 buy it now if you wanna buy it...
>>
>>31410315
well, they are bulky.

I just don't think it matters that much.

There will always be something more gucci. I'm pretty much done with my 16" build after I get the KAC QD end plate. I just need to install my V7 forward assist. I've got a RCO killflash coming for my ECOS and maybe I'll get some flip covers for the ACOG.

My M4 is another story. I'm half tempted to either Block 2 it or SBR and MK18 it. In which case I'll build a new upper and get a T1 or T2

>>
So, I've got this fancy forged lower I had engraved a while back, and while it's off being type 3 anodized I wanted to start ordering build parts. I was thinking a 16" midlength handguard/gas system, or a 20" rifle length. Might go with a PSA freedom upper because affordable and decent quality, or maybe get one of the CHF barrelled uppers. Any recommendations on a decent fixed stock that is affordable but not crap? I like the ace skeleton stocks but they are pricy and look goofy.

>The fragile label is merely a challenge for some
Can be true. Fragile, "this way up", etc mean nothing to UPS workers. Almost all packages will get thrown, dropped, kicked, smashed on the belt/under piles or carts, etc

t. Former UPS loader
>>
>>31410722
But why though
>>
>>31410749
Because you unload/sort/load thousands of packages every shift and and all that matters is that they all get sorted and in the trailer by the end of the shift. Quality doesn't matter, quantity does.
>>
>>31410685
$325 and a 3'x5' picture of pupper
>>
>>31410765
To be fair though, if your package is complete fucked, it was most likely in a jam on the conveyor belt
>>
>>31410765
I'm glad doctors don't have the same ethic as you
>>
>>31410765
you're a lazy cunt, bet you got fired
>>
>>31410797
Not him, the company. You have to move a minimum number of packages an hour.

Even if that means flinging them into the trailers. That's were the niggers can put their basketball skills to work.
>>
>>31410783
450 and my entire stash of larue swag
>>
>>31410830
if you can't do that then you shouldnt be working there.

UPS wouldn't have a minimum packages rule and not have quality rules.

Also UPS is shit, I always use fedex or dhl

lol you fuck up at one of the easiest jobs in the world.

You pick up a box, made specifically for retards like you, and yet you still manage to fuck it up.
>>
>>31410870
if everybody working for every major shipper decided today to do their jobs well and quit being pieces of shit that smash packages it would stop being a problem
>>
>>31410863
Guys can we new thread fedex is a best. I've seen fedex trucks passing people on mountain roads like it was no big deal. People who weren't even going that slow. But USPS is second and UPS is so far below everyone else that third place doesn't truly describe how horrible they are.

dropping packages, delivering late, wrong house.

I bought a laser engraver that took 1 week more to ship because the retard sender sent it through ups.

The day comes for it to arrive and it gets sent back before they deliver it to me because some retard dropped a package

>>
>>31410839
Bean counters decide the minimum numbers. People end up being haphazard with shit just to get it in. Doesn't help that they'll literally hire anyone just to get people to stack boxes. Even people from adult homes, if they can work in trailers.

Peak time is always a wonderful fiasco to watch.
