I'm from California. I'll be a first time buyer so I need advice what gun to get for a small/petite girl like me. My boyfriend recommends a Berretta Cheetah 84FS Nickel. Any other suggestions?

Step one. Move to civilization.
Step two. Forget Beretta, at least for a first handgun. Consider a FEG hi-power copy at the cheap end or a Sig 320 (striker fired, so follow-up shots will be more accurate).

Obrez.

Just kidding, get a shield.

only logical choice is 10mm. if youve ever shot anything our'd know that things dont die right away. you have to apply alot of damage to "drop" something/someone
>>
>>31404996

Wouldn't 9mm be too much? I shot my boyfriend's Glock and I didn't like it too snappy.

>small/petite girl like me
avoid full size guns, the beretta is a prime example. i'm not a big guy either and while you can shoot it there's much more comfortable guns out there. it's an outdated design too.

go into the compact range. check out the usual g19 recommendations or even the subcompact range with a S&W shield or a sig p239. they latter will be easier to handle because it's a metal frame and just looks much nicer.

>>31405067
9mm is really the minimum you should have. you will get used to it.
>>
>>31405123

The Berretta I'm talking about is already a compact gun.
>>
Beretta 84 is off roster and therefore not readily available in California, therefore a bit pricey when found (only used, never new). Otherwise it's pretty good. Also you're limited to 10rd mags which negates the advantage of the double stack magazine, and for concealment single stack is better.

I advise going to a gun store and checking out what they have.

Also revolvers are underrated, especially for carrying. A Ruger LCR or SP101 could serve you very well indeed, especially if you're new.
>>
>>31404941
prove youre a girl, or you wont get any real advice. you would be better served saying youre a limp wristed trap.
that being said, the beretta or the browning bda is a great choice

big heavy guns in 9mm are great at absorbing recoil. a friend of mine is barely 5 ft, probably 100lbs wet and she doesnt like my makarov, but she shoots a 9mm sig p2022.

Overall build size is less relevant than hand size. If you have small hands, the aforementioned Beretta is a solid pick, if you can find one. Avoid lightweight .380s and 9mm like the plague, as they're miserably snappy bastards. Colt Mustangs and Sig P238s are good picks, as they're solid, accurate, and reliable. The slightly higher weight soaks up recoil nicely.
>>

PX4compact.jpg

The Beretta's a good gun, but I'm not terribly keen on .380ACP. IMO, 9mm is the minimum for a reliable carry gun. Yes, even something as small as a .22LR can kill well enough, but 9mm will help negate some of the issues you're going to have with shot placement under stress. It's more forgiving.

Going off of that, the Beretta PX4 might be a good best, especially in the Compact or Subcompact guise. I like the former because it retains the full-size's rotating barrel, but I've heard good things about both. It will have similar controls to the Cheetah, but but give you a bit more firepower.

Hell, if you wanted to you could try and track down one of the mythical Beretta 92 Compact M's and a few mags - I personally really want one for myself. It's basically a squished 92, and if you're up for that it would make an excellent carry gun.
>>
>>31405197
SP2022 and PX4 are pretty good. Rrally OP it comes to what you can find, afford and of that what you like the most.

I'm planning to get a revolver. I fell in love with the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 38 special my boyfriend used to have.
>>
>>31405067
I would bet im smaller than you
And i can handle 9mm fine
Dont be a bitch, the shield is the best carry option for small people period.
>>
>>31404941
Go to a gun shop and handle a bunch of guns, make note of the ones you like the size and feel of. Then go to a gun range that rents guns. Rent some of the ones you liked. Then buy one that you shoot well and enjoy shooting. Once you have your gun, take it to the range often amd learn to shoot, clean, and care for your weapon. Take classes to learn about safe handling of your weapon. If you want to carry your gun for self defense then acquire a concealed handgun license and a few sturdy holster options.

http://www.faliaphotography.com/?m=1

I learned a lot from here when I was first starting to carry. She talks about holster options and things more geared to practical carry for women.

I havent shot many pistols, just my mak and the three polymer sigs in 9mm. but the 2022 is pretty nice, imo. I fucking hate her husband's p250 and I just dint like the p320 rental for some reason. the 2022's stock trigger(not the DAK or whatever) had a better pull and the gun itself overall feels like more refined version of those two. The bore height seems like the same between the p250 and 2022, but the 2022 is less snappy, might be that the recoil springs are different weights but I never bothered to check

as for 'need' you 'need' to shoot one yourself and decide, I'm waiting on my lgs/range to get a cz 75 compact or PCR in so I can try it, I really want one

>>31405169
.380 is fine as a starter caliber. build wrist/hand strength and move up to 9mm or higher pressure defensive 380 loads later idk about cali, but if the cheetah or the BDA is legal there, fucking go for it but you might have to order one online or have your lgs do it for you
>>
>>31405716
thanks for the info, I best get my hands on one and try it out. I like my 229 but it's a bit heavy for EDC and would like to try a sig in polymer, keep hearing how "nice " the 2022 shoots

*selects all salads*
>>
>>31405067
Glock's have snappier recoil on average due to their lighter weight. Maybe look at some metal framed handguns.

It was absolutely unnecessary to say you're a girl
It was even more unnecessary to point out you had a boyfriend
Like it was some half assed attempt to keep strangers from flirting with you on the internet even though the reason you had to point out you were a girl was to get attention.
Fucking kill yourself
>>
I'm pretty sure the Cheetah isn't on the roster so good luck getting one unless you can find someone who owns one.
>>
my old man has a blued 84BB
great gun, reliable, very accurate, great trigger

I'd recommend it
only thing is it's a bit thick for concealed carry
beretta makes (or made) some single stack versions of the gun that'll be a bit thinner

go to a range that rents out guns, you probably want to try things on the heavier side of what your willing to carry if your worried about recoil. try things in 9mm.

Karh cw380

Glock 22

If you guys have a range that allows you to rent firearms I'd suggest that, it's not a bad way to find something that works for you. My only recommendation is if you get a .380 check out Buffalo Bore ammo.

Good luck, and stay safe.
>>
>>31405850
>bein' a girl is unessasary info

that tells us that she's small, probably is more sensitive to recoil, dosen't want to carry around 100 pounds of pistol and probably has less options with holsters.

oh wait i forgot. GRILLS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>>
>>31406786

I hear a lot of good things about S&M shield. Definitely in my to buy list as I plan to get more anyway. I don't see any point of having only one gun. BTW Thanks for the link.

>>
Why is nobody talking about cz pistols if she's afraid of recoil?
>>
>>31404941
84FS is good (they make it in black/blue as well), but California only allows 10rd mags so you'd miss out on those extra 3 rounds, compare 10+1 vs 13+1.

Also the slide can be very stiff to rack so try handling one first before you decide on buying one.
Recoil is very soft though.

With Lehigh Extreme Penetrators, the .380ACP cartridge performs quite well, so .380 doesn't have to be as low powered as some people will insist.

A second option is a Browning Black Label 1911, it's like a regular 1911 exactly but scaled down to .380ACP, a bit expensive, and only holds like 7 or 8 rounds (and another in the chamber), but the slide is very easy to rack and the thing is very easy to shoot.

>>31404964
It's "Let it snow" !

>>31404972
>striker fired, so follow-up shots will be more accurate
Holy fuck, never post on /k/ again.

>>31405067
Glock has plastic frame and is lighter, so you'll get more recoil.
>>
>>31405123
The Beretta 84FS is a compact .380ACP blowback gun, you're confusing it for the full sized 92FS in 9mm Luger.

It's almost like the 92FS for a tiny person.

>>31405248
There's nothing wrong with Beretta you cocksucker.

>>31405355
The caliber is the point.
>>
>>31406754
The Cheetah can be hard to find at a fair price, consider also the Bersa Thunder, you should be able to get 10rd magazines for the Plus variant.
>>
>>31406502
You're not wrong, but just because someone from California isn't anti-gun doesn't mean that they're necessarily an ally outside of California. Californians tend to vote for liberal politicians and those same liberal politicians tend to be anti-gun. You can't win so it's better if all Calicucks stay in Cuckifornia and fix their own problems instead of spreading their liberal retardation everywhere else.
>>
>>31404941
Don't buy any mirror shiny finished gun. Those are sometimes nasty to aim in bright sunlight, glare gets in your eyes, affects your aim and makes you look bad.
>>
>>31409380
I love when people say this, and then when I tell them I usually vote republican, then they'd proceed to tell me that
>"oh your republicans are basically democrats, so you'd still vote democrat once you move"

I guess I might as well not vote at all then if any choices I make at the ballot will make me a liberal no matter what.
>>
>>31404941

84 is blowback, so you may or may not have difficulty racking the slide. They are noticeably stiffer on new guns as there is a bit of a break in period.

Try before you buy.
