Is paintball a good way to train for combat?
>>
If the balls are frozen and you don't wear protective gear, maybe.
>>
>>31389835
In terms of group cohesiveness and tactics? Possibly.

In terms of being ready for actual, genuine combat? Fuck no.
>>
>>31389847
Is it important to build up pain tolerance to being shot? You sound like you've seen a lot of combat and tanked a lot of gunshots so please explain.
>>
>>31389860
The problem with airshit and paintball is that being shot doesn't hurt, so people don't make the same decisions that they would if they were really being shot at, so its pretty worthless as a training tool.
>>
>>31389835
No, its fun though and not as gay as airsoft
>>
>>31389890

Wouldn't be as gay if you got to see crap like this all the time.

Maybe to sharpen your quick thinking skills and small group tactics (maybe you'll go with some friends), if you really develop a plan and execute it well. The people who play aren't there to learn anything, though.

Honestly, training and simulations can only do so much. Experience is one's only true weapon.
>>
>>31389835
Depends on how you play, if you're playing your typical paintball game, probably not. At most you're learning how to deal with stressful situations while being under fire and taking cover.
>>

No.
>>31389890
Paintball seems like a collection of arbitrary rules eg. double triggers
>>
>>31389882
So the only way to train is by actually getting shot at?

Former semi-pro paintballer here. Paintball dynamics are not bullet dynamics which should hopefully be obvious. That said, paintball DOES teach you to coordinate and think objectively under stress. The basics of shoot/move/cover/covering fire apply anywhere you're throwing projectiles at someone who's throwing them back also.

I like how you assume all those things, its really funny actually.

Paintballing with my friends was how I learnt about suppressive fire being a thing. Things whizzing and smacking all around you makes your monkey brain want to freak out and hide, even when it's harmless fun. I can't even fathom what receiving actual rifle fire must be like.

They hurt quite a bit under ten yards which you'd know if you went for objectives instead of hanging back like a fucking punk.
Got hit directly in the Adams apple once at 5 feet and it was pretty damn painful.
>>
Paintball as it's usually played is pretty pointless, but with two coordinated teams who are doing it solely for training alongside existing drills etc, it's very valuable.

Anyone who shoots frozen paintballs is a dangerous asshole who ought to be fined. Paintball masks and goggles aren't meant to protect against frozen shit.

But as far as regular airshit and paintball goes? It isn't painful whatsoever.

>>31390821
As a nig who is one of the only coloreds ever on the field, I know what it's like to be shot in sensitive areas by team mates who "accidentally" shoot me, faggot. Also, going for the objective is a no brainer when you can sprint.

It can be for tactics if played right... here in Australia we have Total War events which are 300+ players on 80+ acres split into two teams.

Teams are led by generals (who are usually ex-service members) and teams are split into squads with SL's having radios to talk to the general.

Objectives are taken by setting off a pyrotechnics explosion in the middle of a zone.
>>
>>31389882
I didn't know they shot at soldiers to train them
>>
>>31389835
Not really no.
It's good for teaching you to work and move with others in a vaguely similar scenario, teaching you to move around and over obstacles with a marker safely, and improving your fitness though.
Some concepts that are taught by firearms instructors are taught and practiced in higher level paintball though, bumping under suppression, communication, leading with the correct leg for the cover you are behind, never have two knees on the ground, don't go over cover to get someone, ect.
FWIW we used to take hot shits all over the airborne guys who came out and played expecting to fuck everyone up, both on the hyper/speed ball courses and in woods ball. It's just not combat and you can get away with things at 300fps that you cannot at 3000fps.
>>
>>31389835

It depends. Professional and collegiate teams play speedball, which has a small field populated by a symmetrical arrangement of inflated barriers. It will teach you how to move under fire and make coordinated tactical decisions. That being said, speedball, like any other sport, is a competition governed by stricter rules that reduce its training value.

Woodsball, on the other hand, is intended to be closer to a simulation instead of a regulated sport. The playing areas are much larger, and they take place in more natural environments. In my opinion, woodsball has more training value than paintball does.

However, paintball is far from an ideal combat simulator. The tactics themselves will be different, given the limited capability of markers. Obviously, you won't develop proper weapons-handling muscle memory.

If I had to train infantrymen on a budget, I would consider paintball as a useful training tool. However, I would not want to use it so extensively that they focus more on the particulars of the game/sport, as opposed to focusing on general soldier skills such as movement, communication, and fast thinking.

>>31391027

Meant to say "woodsball has more training value than speedball"

We do this in Alberta, Skyline Nation Paintball south west of Calgary, once a year main event.

For the tenth anniversary last year, the host removed the ticket sales limit, had almost 300 people total show up for a 4 day paintball war / campout.. its normally limited to 100 max because of legalities.

Having done milsim airsoft in my youth, this is entirely true. Even the actual infantry militaryfags admitted that they'd do dumbass shit in airsoft that you would never do in combat.

Plus, fat dudes aren't invincible because "muh i can't feel it" in real life.

>>31389882
you gotta elaborate more than that. I get what you mean - you make decisions differently when you're facing mild pain of a paintball or airsoft vs lethal injury of firearms and likely take more risk. It's not entirely worthless though, you do learn some things, but you have to treat the training as if getting hit with a pellet would kill you dead.
>>
>>31390918
You'd have to be drilling and training with a 'this is a firearm' mindset against people with the same mindset to get anything meaningful out of it, it can be a training tool but going down to your local playing field as a walk on isn't really going to help you.
At that point either UTM or simunitions seems a better investment.
>>31391059
I think we have something like 120-180 show up annually for a multi-day game. This year was a real shit show though, the most widespread and blatant cheating I've ever seen in a game. First time in over 15 years of playing I've actually fought someone on field.

Regardless of who it is (I never mentioned white folk), I say what I said because I have heard the folks vocalize their intentions right behind me, several times, then act on it.

But, really, I was trying to legitimize my claim of "paintball doesn't really hurt" and what better way to make that claim more real than to tell what happened to me.

You're being sensitive. I'm not shitting on white people so much as I'm just telling you that some dickheads decided to peg me for one reason.
>>
>>31391266
Generally when people ask about paintball here, anything else is out of their reach or that is explicitly what they have in mind.
>>
>>31391312

It's at Action Paintball Games in Rouse Hill. Next one is on Dec 4th- Operation Black Citadel and I'll be there for sure

Pic related is me, my brother had a gopro. We were rear guard for a squad taking an objective since radio chatter was saying that there was a small group trying to flank them.
We set up in the trees below the objective in what we thought would be part of their flanking path.

It's naturally a little wavy I guess but not like movie star spent an hour on his hair wavy, just dark, no ginger or jew fro present. I do have a white streak from being bunkered that people notice and assume I bleach on purpose. Some faggot decided he'd shoot me point blank in the head a dozen times, didn't bother to apologize or anything, and the hair there hasn't grown with color ever since. After that just about everyone I was playing with that day started over-shooting him and giving him as many bonus balls as they could get away with when he was walking off the field, he called it a day after a few games the cunt.
I just assume they're butthurt I shot them out or that I'm not poor, or more frequently that they're legitimately dumb, bad players.

Eh. Kind of. Speaking on Airsoft, It teaches you some basic important tactical principles. How to assault MG nests, don't attack bunkers as an infantry unit, basic unit cohesion, simple infantry tactics, etc. It's not going to make you into an oper8or, but it'll teach you something.

SWAT teams and the like regularly train using Airsoft. In fact, near where I live, there's an indoor field that SWAT uses to train on and there's a certain day out of the month where it's open to the public 18+ with a waiver. Anyone who wants is allowed to come in and try their best against the SWAT team. They practice certain situations, HVT Recovery, Hostage situations, stuff like that. It gets pretty wild. SWAT almost always wins, even in the face of significantly greater forces, but it is fun as hell. The SWAT guys are normally pretty good sports too. I've seen a small SWAT team of around 8ish guys wipe out 40+ people.

Airsoft can be cringey, but so is a bunch of 300 lbs guys going to the range loaded up in all of their tacticool gear. At least airsoft has the social aspect. It's just like anything else. If you get too far into it, you're a fag, but otherwise you're probably good.
>>
>>31392185
I'd say this answers OP's question quite well.

Also. Man I'd love to go against a SWAT team in airsoft, sound fun as hell.
>>
Cops DO train with paintball- it's called simunitions.

The building I work in was once used by the police for simunitions training- you can see the spots where people hid and the hits- under a staircase, behind a wall, around a corner.
>>
>>31392185
Also, I won some Soviet equivalent of the Firewatch Ribbon from playing Airsoft. Me and this other guy single handedly held out this fake town called Toikovska or something like that in a Milsim game I was in. We were the Novorossiya rebels fighting against the Ukrainian army. We were ordered to hunker down in this shack and watch for enemy movement. We saw a patrol move nearby and took them out. We were the first unit to take contact and they just sent waves at us. Me and this other guy held off at least 20-30 other guys with just my AK and his RPK.

When the game was over for the day, the Separatist commander gathered all of the Novorossiya guys together and then dug up these Soviet medals and declared us the "Heroes of Toikovska". The medal awarded was supposedly "Hero of Luhansk: 1st class". It was a really funny moment.
>>
>>31390958
They actually load functioning firearms(clearly marked and kept seperate from live service rifles to prevent a "mix up") with paint rounds to train with, and it hurts and can even kill under certain circumstances.

Basically paintball but with velocity in the thousands of fps
>>
>>31389847
>balls are frozen
physically impossible if you understand basic physics behind condensation and can fathom what "water soluble gelatin" means
>>
>>31392306
simunitions are wax bullets fired out of firearms. Not paintballs. Paintballs are barely acceptable for teaching cover based movement and little else.
>>

All paintballs have antifreeze in them, one of the main ingredients.
Winter paintballs have a different shell formulation to make them less brittle in cold temps.
>>
>>31393689
I don't think you understand.

It's quite literally impossible to freeze paintballs. they'd don't freeze. If you put them in the freezer they just dimple and become inaccurate, they don't get any harder.

You probably just saw some retard using really old and shitty paint at really close range at above field rated FPS.

Monsterballs at 400+FPS will hurt more than
"frozen paintballs"
