As a South African I would like to point out that Thales is not a South African company, real South African arms companies don't need to steal ideas from sandniggers.

But as an aside I think it's a great way to make money, you can manufacture them for peanuts and sell them to make gang bank to pretty much any military, especially African or middle eastern ones which don't have enough money for proper infantry fighting vehicles and don't expect to encounter anti-armour ("armour") capability.

Actually, the issue isn't purpose building them, as that can make them even cheaper once you get economy of scale into account; it's actually shipping those technicals to where you need them as opposed to being able to construct them next to action zones on the spot that's the issue. The biggest advantage technicals have over AFVs is that they can materialize from places that otherwise would be unable to construct motorized weapons, and if they're being churned out of a factory somewhere, suddently all technicals have to be transported from that specific area to wherever they're needed.
