> BAKER Company which is scheduled to land twenty-six minutes after Able and right on top of it, supporting and reinforcing, has had its full load of trouble on the way in. So rough is the sea during the journey that the men have to bail furiously with their helmets to keep the six boats from swamping. Thus preoccupied, they do not see the disaster which is overtaking Able until they are almost atop it. Then, what their eyes behold is either so limited or so staggering to the senses that control withers, the assault wave begins to dissolve, and disunity induced by fear virtually cancels the mission. A great cloud of smoke and dust raised by the mortar and machine-gun fire has almost closed a curtain around Able Company's ordeal. Outside the pall, nothing is to be seen but a line of corpses adrift, a few heads bobbing in the water and the crimson-running tide. But this is enough for the British coxswains. They raise the cry: "We can't go in there. We can't see the landmarks. We must pull off."
>>31374056
The entire point of D-Day was to use human waves.
Human waves don't retreat, they pile up.
Here is a first hand account from an American US Coast Guard coxswain that piloted one of the Higgins boats at Utah beach on D-Day: https://www.uscg.mil/history/weboralhistory/Perrett_Marvin_Oral_History.pdf
>>31371811
>>31373736
The Rangers were ferried by Canadian-crewed LCAs launched from a Brit ship. They were the only Americans ferried by non-American personnel at Omaha.
As for why they weren't portrayed accurately, it was most likely a casting/special effects decision. Prop LCAs were probably harder to come by and having the 2 special snowflakes in the sea of Higgins boats may have made editing and shooting a bit harder.
I can't believe anyone would be upset about the Canucks not being accurately portrayed as the Rangets' taxi drivers in an American movie though.

You stupid Limey where the fuck. The OP showed a picture of a Higgins boat (LCVP). A US Navy craft piloted by US Coastguardsmen.
>>31374120
Except the Rangers weren't in Higgins boats when they went onto Omaha.
Is it this difficult to comprehend people from another nation contributed even a tiny bit to an enormous, multi-national allied operation? Did you know that it wasn't just Americans landing on D-Day? The Canadians had their own beach all to themselves and everything.

When everyone was dead. There was never any plan to recover any of the men no matter how bad it went. If the Germans had somehow BTFOd the Allies at Normandy, every man on that beach would have been killed or captured and the Allies would have been forced to talk peace with the Germans.
>>31373736
Some of the landing boats carrying US troops were actually brit boats launched from american ships, and fittingly were operated by the brits who were trained on them.
Probably changed to being americans driving american boats to avoid confusion pulling the audience out of the opening sequence with a brief and pointless moment of wondering why a brit was ferrying US troops from a US ship.

Canada usually gets shafted when America's involved in any movie role. I guess it's the 'little brother syndrome' kicking in if they're mad about missing out on their 60 seconds of fame.

It's to show how that war isn't as black and white as it it so often depicted in other movies. Real war is messy and grey. Both sides in any war will do bad things and both will commit war crimes to some extent.
