I want an M16A1, /k/. Not sure why, because I hate AR-15's, but whatever. My historical itch needs to be scratched.
I found this: http://whatacountry.com/colt-m16a1-parts-kit.aspx
but:
>$700
>No barrel (say $200, and government profile 20in barrels are a bitch to find)
>No lower ($100-$150)
I've also looked at some SP1's, but those are all going for laughable prices lately.
Is there a cheaper way to go about getting an A1?
I like a1 also but a2 might be cheaper and better along without sacrificing almost any aesthetics
>G. condition
>No barrel
>$700
Holy shit, this is just getting sad.
>Is there a cheaper way to go about getting an A1?
Not really, you kinda missed the boat. On the plus side, going the parts kit route is the easier way. Now you just need to source a 1:12 20" pencil profile barrel and an A1 profile lower.

Damn.
I can get the receiver from NoDak Spud, but I wouldn't really know where to start on the barrel. Twist rate isn't as important to me as just having the correct profile.
That's a super high price. A year ago they were selling with barrel for like 400

close enough?
>>31370435
NDS is backordered into middle of 2017. no joke. because of CA's laws changing, they are prioritizing CA's orders and there's no shipping expected until December.
>>31370465
Ought to. Incorrect twist rate, but frankly 1:9 is more practical anyway.
>>31370435
>I can get the receiver from NoDak Spud
I'd suggest McKay Enterprises, they usually restock every month and you aren't put on an 8 month long (seriously) wait list once you put in the order.
>but I wouldn't really know where to start on the barrel.
If you're not going full sperg on your build, there are good quality 20" pencil profiles that forego the rather outdated twist rate. However, GM still has a good offering; http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/gm-m15-m16-a1-5-56mm-20-1-12-twist-20-barrel/

ok, how about this?

I know installing the FSB is hard as fuck.
>>31370486
Their backorder wait time reached parody levels over a year ago.

green mountain used to make 1/12 twist barrels.

for everything or just A1 receivers?

Thanks, guys.
Well, time to start saving my pennies I guess. Never thought I'd see the day where I consider selling one of my Enfields to pay for an AR....
>>31370579
You came to the right place. What kind of enfield?
>>31370579
You anyway near Alabama? I might buy one off of you
>>31370571
Just receivers, though everything else they used to sell
>A1 dust covers, A1 gray trigger guards and mag releases, A1 slip rings etc. etc.
seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. I think they're starting to get completely overwhelmed.
not op but hopping onto train
are there any m16 style rifles i can get with carrying handle under $700? any style is fine as long as it has a 20" barrel

>pic related, top rifle
1940 BSA No.1 MkIII* w/ magazine cutoff. Metal's in good shape, stock has a slightly-glossy finish that I'm not sure is original or not. Receiver was drilled and tapped for what appears to be a period scope mount. Headspaces fine but I haven't gotten around to shooting it. Has a correct but non-matching Wilkinson P-1907 bayonet.
I bought it just prior to finding that Long Branch No.4 underneath, and frankly I just like the Canuck rifle a lot better.
I can get a non-potato pic with a timestamp up in the morning if there's interest. I'm still not entirely sure I want to sell it, and frankly I've no idea what I'd charge for it.

Missed your post. I'm in Michigan, though I could ship to your FFL. Again, not entirely sure I even want to sell, though.

I've never had anything beyond a milsurp bolt action so I don't know much about building guns or parts yet. it'll be a struggle, found a carry handle and 20" upper atm

same poster as post made, replying again to ask a question
how should i make a lower? should i buy a complete lower or lower and lower kit like the suggestion said? im working to find everything else but the lowers are confusing me a bit
>>31370302
Never fails on /k/
>op asks about a very specific rifle
YOU NO WUT YOU SHOULD GET SOMETHING ELSE THAT'S NOT WAT U WANTED
>>31370930
I see his point though. An A2 build would be easier and functionally equal or better to an A1.
I'm just in it for dat aesthetic/historical relevance.
>>31370966
>An A2 build would be . . . functionally equal or better to an A1.
There's an entire formal Army report that points out how this is not the case. TLDR is that the government profile barrel is a shit.

Between Fulton and Brownells you can buy everything you need, though it looks like the barrels are on back order at Brownells.
At $700, the M16 kits aren't that great of a deal.
One with the wrong twist is available from Fulton

That's because Brownells is buying tons of A1 sets from them.
