Hey /k/, just got back from a gun show where I picked up a 1943 blond Mosin in decent condition for $250, did I do good? Its still covered in cosmoline, what is the best way to remove it? Thanks
Are the carbine versions any good?

You fucked up big time, throw it in the garbage and rethink your life

They're a lot more maneuverable and light but generally at least $150 more for one in similar condition to a full length one

Tear it down and wipe it off. Wrap up the wood in paper towels and black trash bags. Leave in your car for a day or two. Repeat as needed. I haven't been able to get the smell off mine yet and I notice a little seepage when shooting a bunch.

Thanks, the guy told me to leave it out in the sun, does that work too?

Stock is in good shape, how's the bore? If there's no rust you did ok. 250 is average now.
I bought and m44 and 720 rounds of ammo for 350 last week

I did that first and it only got a little off. With summer wrapping up in some areas you might need a heat gun. Hell I might even use a heat gun here soon to see how much more the wood has soaked into it.
Happy nugget day, Anon.
For removing cosmoline from metal parts, just immerse them in mineral spirits or kerosene overnight, then you can just wipe them dry the next day. For the wood, wave a hair dryer or heat gun over it (you don't need it very hot; 125°F is good) and the cosmoline will begin to liquefy and leach out of the stock. Wipe it off with paper towels until no more comes out.

GASOLINE IS CHEAPER AND MORE EFFECTIVE
Boil it, make a stew out of it.
Does Walmart sell 7.62x54R?
