You know there's a reason that almost every helmet since the Adrian and Stahlhelm have neck protection right? Keeps hot shrapnel from falling down your neck. That's the same reason firefighters use Adrian/Stahlhelm style helmets too.

Something like 80% if not more of all engagements are at less than half that distance. Helmets are not designed to catch rifle rounds, they're designed to keep you from getting knocked out because you caught a 2x4 to the head while clearing a building and to block shrapnel and shit.
