Hk never wound up releasing them or moving them to mass production because they felt the market was too saturated with "new" rifles like the SCAR, CZ 805, ARX 100, and others.

922r forces HK to outsource many parts, so it will take time. one plus is that they can ship the guns without the magwell and it will probably not count as a high capacity rifle, similar to what FN does where they dont fully machine the magwell of the scars

All Mk.16 and 17 SCARs for SOCOM are 100% U.S. made, it was a clause of the original SCAR program to begin with.
The 16s and 17s are Belgian made, sporterized imported, and then U.S. converted to compliance for commercial sale.
Obviously politics has a lot to do with that situation, and it's also why the MSRP is pretty high.
