Fellow /K/unts, I want a new rifle in .308 and am considering an Accuracy International. What do you guys think? Is it worth the cash to remove paper target?
Id be using it to shoot to around 800 yards, mainly as an intermediate round for my .338LM. The .338 was an impulse buy, that I enjoy shooting, but I think that practicing with .308 will get me better results in the long term.
Id be putting some good glass on the rifle, but could do with suggestions for it too.
I'm thinking either leupold or night force, though a vortex razer is also a consideration.

6.5 Creedmoor if you really want precision.
>>
>>31354624
yeah if you want better results for more or less the same price, go with 6.5 creedmoar

It's a great rifle and if you have the money then you won't regret it. If it isn't your main rifle and is more of a practice rifle then there are other options that almost as good and a lot cheaper. Unless you just want to spunk cash.

I got mine in .308 as in my country you can only really go out to 1200 yards at dedicated ranges and less in the open country.

Nightforce would be the best option for optics to do the rifle justice. I put a s&b 5-25x56 on mine.

Now looking to get a suppressor for it at some point.

Op here,
Thanks for the replies, 6.5 creed more isn't too common here, but it's an option I hadn't thought of.
It would and wouldn't be my main rifle, as using I would be using it a lot more than .338, but shooting the .338 is really fun at the range, even though I aren't really the best of shots with it.
I'll have to look into 6.5 creed more a little. I know one of the local shops has a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 in stock, but after handling it, I'm not too keen on the rifle itself, bolt feels kinda rough, and the whole rifle feels very fragile, even though i know its not.

>>31355165
6.5 is a cool round, but doesn't do that much more that 308 can do, at half the barrel life.

And if you reload, there's a metric shit ton of load data online for 308, while a miniscule amount for 6.5, mostly pertaining to what turbo autists are doing with their "Rifles" that are nothing more than literal barrels attached to blocks of machined steel, that can be adjusted by a tenth of a degree, for shooting at 10 meters.

There's also shit for just regular long range, but again, not a lot of data out there.

As for AI, they're used by Militaries for good reasons, primarily they make fucking great barrels and triggers. Their actions are standard for what you'd expect out of a high end bolt action.

As for the Ruger PR, swap out the stock and grip.

I've heard it makes a world of difference. Magpul is great in this area.

Bolts smooth out with usage, otherwise polishing is always a good option. But as long as it locks up tight, you're good.

If you're really willing to spend the money on an AI, you might also consider building off of a Rem 700 long action receiver. Its different than building an AR but you still just torque on the barrel to 100, with some light lubricant, and go from there.

Remington is still shit, but some of the aftermarket builds I've seen people put together have floored me.

Make sure the scope you get has more than 30 MRAD Vertical Adjustment for 308 out to 1000 yards.
>>
>>31355033

Not a fan of the OD, but dat setup hnnnggggg. Which reticle?
>>
>>31355165

Dude don't get a RPR if you can afford AX. RPR is for new and poor fags.

If you're only shooting at 800m then get the .308. There's a bunch of other 6mm and 7mm lapua rounds that people have won titles with, but I'm not too familiar with.

>>31356621

Or just a 20moa mount would work too.

>>31356621
Somewhere in Washington?

Kinda looks like Snoqualmie
>>
>>31354665
>6.5 Creedmoor
It's the .40 S&W of the bolt action world. PSR shooters have already moved on to better performing lower recoil 6mm rounds while agencies continue to use .308 due to institutional inertia and 4x the barrel life.

It's running on magazine hype and advertising pressure to be honest.
>>
Great info, thanks all. I'll go for an AX .308 with either vortex or NF scope.
Time to git gud.

Just to make sure are you wanting your rifle to shoot 308 and 338lm or just 308?

If it is the latter then you can save about 1500 if you go with the AIAT in 308. The folders run around 4-4500, whereas the AX308 (which has the nicer looking buttstock and the keyslot forend) is around 5-5500. Then if you want to shoot both 338lm and 308 you are needing to go with the AI AXMC in either 308 or 338 and then buy the conversion kit for the other caliber.

Go to EuroOptic for different pictures and rough prices for the setups. EuroOptic is also a good choice for buying, and I'd look at them or MHSA if you do decide to buy and are state side. I've personally had better CS with EO compared to MHSA, but it can happen once to anybody.

>>31357021
6.5cm is good in that compared to your small rifle primer calibers they can be hit or miss depending on your action you shoot them in. Case in point AI's have larger firing pin holes, and we having serious issues when firing your 6.5x47L and others. AI ended up making a SFP version that debuted when they came out with the left handy AIAT too but for a long time shooters were having to send their bolts to get bushed. If I were going 6/6.5mm I'd look at 6xc because Fed210M primers. I wouldn't have any issues running the brass in my older AIAT, and I'd be able to put around 2-3k down the bbl before its toast.

>>31357446
Since the AI is already a heavy rifle you won't lose much going with the Vortex and you can put the savings towards a suppressor/ammo/accessories
>>
>>31358194
Just to clarify that when I meant you won't lose much I meant to 4k+ expensive brands not in regards to NF/Steiner/Kahles. I consider the Vortex to be tied with those mentioned and personal preference would define the choice one prefers.
>>
So....if your goal is to shoot in a more reasonable manner and get better at LR/ELR, why not just get a savage 10 fcp-sr in 308 (6.5 is only 20" for some fucktarded reason) and a vortex 6-24 ffp mil/mil ebr-2c? You start getting a $5k setup and you may as well just get more ammo for your 338LM, because you can clearly afford it.

>Fellow /K/unts, I want a new rifle in .308 and am considering an Accuracy International. What do you guys think? Is it worth the cash to remove paper target?

I bought one in the "buy once, cry once" mentality. Also because I wouldn't need to upgrade parts etc along the way. Just get the right optics, bipod & optics mounting and you're set to go. Outside of swapping out the barrel once it's shot out, there's not much to do and should last forever.
I guess you could make a gun similar to this performance-wise with cheaper parts, but the good precision gunsmiths where I live have a huge backlog. And it probably still wouldn't feel as solid as this.

>>31354665
>6.5 Creedmoor if you really want precision.

I'm guessing he said 308 because AIs don't come from the factory as 6.5Creedmoor. You need to buy a .308 and get a spare barrel for it to convert to Creedmoor.

Pic: My lefty AI AT in 7.62x51 (yes, that's what the barrel says) with Steiner M5Xi 5-25x56 MSR. Shown with a Roedale RH50 F T/R Match bipod, which has now been swapped with an Atlas PSR bipod. Also has been converted to thumbhole stock in the mean time.

>>
>>31361829
A 308 will fuck you up pretty good. Even at longer ranges, especially when you consider the bullet drop (the fact that the bullet will hit at an angle means more more tissue to damage).
>>
>>31361829
>How fucked are you if you are hit anywhere in your torso with this rifle?

7.62x51 / 308Win is about on par with 8mm Mauser, .30-06 and 7.62x54. So if you look at the wounds you see from rifle fire in the first & second world wars, you'll have a good idea of what 308Win does. You'll need to take into account that our commercial bullets are more devastating than the ones commonly issued in the wars.

Wut?

6.5 is super popular with almost every discipline of rifle shooting.

And if he is willing to drop ai money then why would he not buy a custom action over a shitty ass remington action?

You sound like you have no idea what you are talking about m8
