Thinking of breaking into bolt rifles, getting into target shooting first then eventually hunting. I've experience with bolt actions so looking for a rifle in .270 or .308.

Budget <$800 for rifle, looking at the rem 700 sps and wby vanguard s2. Read some dubious quality issues with the rem like bolt and trigger, but nothing but praise for the vanguard. Overall I like the look of the rem but seems like their rifle are really hit or miss in terms of quality. I've also looked at tikka t3 and those are pretty nice as well but seem to be outside my price range.

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

I have a 10FP-SR, which I think has been discontinued. Got it for hunting, planned to buy a scope; never went hunting, never bought a scope. So far I've only used it to kill a raccoon and a fox that were digging under fences and killing muh chickens. The fox was around 50 yards out and bolting, and despite only having previously fired about 20 rounds in target practice, my shot placement was great. And I don't say this to brag about my own skills, but instead the rifle's ease of use.

Would recommend/10

I got a FLCP-SR 6 months ago. My first properly nice rifle, bought it because I had a hankering for something lefty-friendly and accurate. And accurate it is, my god. I'm admittedly not that good of a shot but it's like cheating with a good scope and a sandbag to rest on. Recoil pad it has is nice too, action is sex, highly recommend it.
