[Yawn] Just a guess. Could be 80, could be 400.

As far as Iran is concerned, retaliation will hurt regardless. So they can't do much even if they build one or two. That's if you believe the ruling elites are pragmatists. If they are wild-eyed 72 virgins in heaven jihadist types, even one Iranian bomb could be dangerous because 'Muh martyrdom'.

Light reading, Israel has been nuclear capable since before 1985.

Spoopy. https://www.damninteresting.com/the-vela-incident/

Also, you can't just summon Oppenheimer with something as passe as a nuclear armed Israel. You need something juicier, like the security implications of a nuclear armed North Korea.
>>
>>31351886
First of all, that has been an open secret for like, decades, second, that's only like half of the highest estimates by like the Pentagon or CIA.

>>31351904
Well why would I worry? 200 isn't really a lot of warheads on the global scale (emphasis on warheads, nobody knows if they have the delivery system for all of them, and it's doubtful).
They're not exactly norkies, they've tried to keep quiet about it, but logically, they have them in case they'd get swarmed by Moslems, or scare Moslems into not trying that; "You better stay back, or else, goyim!" *wipes nose and takes another bite from his matza* "Oy Vey!"
>>
>>31352172
Precisely why it shouldn't be worried about. We've got everything under control. Just don't forget the foreign aid we so sorely need for defense.

>That's if you believe the ruling elites are pragmatists. If they are wild-eyed 72 virgins in heaven jihadist types, even one Iranian bomb could be dangerous
I think the rulers of Iran have their shit too much together, they're one of the more functional derka derka nations, the anti-semitism is just harped on for propaganda purposes, I'm pretty sure.

Like, that Amedinejhad (or however it's spelled), he says a lot of shit, but how much does the Ayatola let him actually do?

The point you autists are missing is not the fact that they have them (fucking duh) but that a ridiculously high-level american official had correspondence STATING THE EXACT NUMBER.

WHICH WAS HIGHER THAN A LOT OF ESTIMATES.
>>
>>31352193
I legit see /pol/tergeists suggest that Israel's meager nuclear arsenal is some kind of ICBM of Democles and they'll end the entire world (the Samson option, which nobody knows exactly what it entails, probably NOT desperately lobbing a tiny amount of warheads at their allies or uninvolved nations for literally no reason), when really, they have MAYBE enough warheads to decimate most of their angry neighbors, maybe.
>>
>>31351886
What are you summoning the OPP for? That's within common estimates.
>>
>>31352301
It's also lower than a lot of estimates.

At the end of the day, how does it matter to North America and Europe? Let the arabs bicker with each other.
>>
>>31351886
I remember estimates saying 250, so it's probably common knowledge in some circles.

It will be used by opponents of Israel and nuclear weapons in general, but nothing really more than that.

The same kind of minor uproar when the story about the commander of the 8th Air Force meeting Bush on the Tarmac at Barksdale during 9/11 and asked him where the President wanted the nuclear weapons and if he preferred original or extra crispy.

The question is, what is their delivery capability?

Do they have ballistic missiles that can carry the warheads?

Second strike capacity?

How long does it take them to ready the warheads ?

Cruise missile warheads?

Submarine launched cruise missiles?

Air launched cruise missiles ?

They should have second-strike capability as long as their subs don't get taken out. I don't think any of their enemies really have the ability to reliably destroy all of their subs.

What would be the effect of detonating a 10000 megaton nuke on the surface of the Earth? I had a dream where I was a space marine in power armor and I had to blow up a wasp-alien hive mind that had a mothership the size of the moon. Would 10000 megatons be enough to crack that sucker into a billion pieces?

Fucking nukewalkers.

>>
>>31357105
Apparently someone asked something similar on yahoo answers.

>The diameter of the Moon is only just over 2000 miles (about 2150 miles), so the bomb would be very close to the center. In order to blow the Moon apart, you would need to overcome its gravitational binding energy. According to my calculations, the gravitational binding energy of the Moon is about 1.248*10^29 joules. 100 trillion tonnes of TNT equivalent is about 4.184*10^23 joules. So your bomb would still be too weak to blow up the Moon by a factor of over a hundred thousand times. It would probably cause a substantial earthquake on the surface, but likely would not deform the surface on a large scale, and after the vibrations subsided the Moon would be pretty much how it was before. If you were lucky you might make a crack on the surface somewhere.

Oppenheimer I live about 5 miles from DC city limits. In the event that DC gets hit with a nuke or a has a nuke detonated inside it, would I be better off fleeing in any direction from the epicenter or sheltering in place?

Also you told me in an earlier thread that the area near Thurmont, MD was not an ideal refuge in the even of a nuclear attack because of its proximity to Camp David and a STAR base or something. I'm trying to remember what you said specifically but it's just slipped my mind. Would that area in general be inadvisable to hole up during a nuclear exchange? Most iranians now were born after the 79' coup that resulted in the country now. Nuclear deals were also met with approval across the country, they clearly want to move forward.
>>
>>31360236
9/11 happened during GLOBAL GUARDIAN, which is a STRATCOM exercise. It tests the US' ability to launch it's nuclear forces.
To this end at Barksdale, they had loaded nuclear weapons on to several B-52's as part of the exercise.
Tom Keck was the Commander 8th Air Force at the time, and according to the recollection of Mark Rosenker, (Director of the White House Military Office), Gen Keck met them coming off AF1, and said "See those planes? Every one is loaded with nukes. Tell me where you want ā€™em."

Well this came out in an oral history this month. I cant remember who put it together, but Hans read it and posted on Twitter about it. He got very worked up about it, (as he tends to do).

Oppen,

How do you think Israel developed its nuclear capability without testing/with very limited testing? Do you think a nuclear power gave them design details? Do you think they have thermonuclear weapons?
>>
>>31357177
Rice said "mushroom clouds over new york".

This is nothing. Pre 1991 stores that weren't destroyed after the Gulf War, too old to be used as weapons. Appears to have been simply "lost" in a bunker somewhere.

Exposure of troops was during destruction of the remaining weapons.

>How do you think Israel developed its nuclear capability without testing/with very limited testing? Do you think a nuclear power gave them design details?
Yes. Their weapons are probably derived from the French AN 22 with some aspects of the MR 41. CEA-DAM was riddled with Mossad agents until the 1970's.

>Do you think they have thermonuclear weapons?
Possible but unknown. They could have gotten design information from the French because development of the TN-60 was well underway in the late 60's when DAM was basically a branch office for Mossad.

Iran is still the leader in terrorism directly supported by the government (as opposed to powerful individuals within one). They still chant Death to America all the time, and the leaders and their true-believer followers actually mean it.

Most Iranians would probably rather be our friends. However, they don't get much of a say; when they tried to object to that, Obama told them he'd rather "work with" the mullahs and let them get disappeared.

That worked out reeeeally well, too; at least, it did for the mullahs, who got everything they wanted, and are still going to make bombs anyway.
>>

Welcome to the middle east, shluh. Iran used to be on better terms with Israel than Israel ever was with the US. They even had sketches of some kind of a plan to turn the mideast into the new economic, perhaps even cultural, center of the modern world by combining "the Jewish brain" with "Persian might". Same was with Jordan, until the king got assassinated for cooperating with Israel. And same with Lebanon, until the Prime Minister got assassinated for cooperating with Israel.

Which is very funny since the french (who built their capabilities together with israel) or the germans (who built their dolphin class subs) know everything that is needed to know about israel's nuke capabilities. Also, in Europe are the biggest jewish communities. Retaliation would hit hard, and this time there would be no such thing as
>"we're all cool dude I mean dude chill out dude lmao it's just a prank bro"

Now for the fun part :

EVERY major nuclear player able to deliver nukes has plans to deliver them EVERYWHERE on the planet. You think because great britain and the US are allied they don't have all the calculations made into their missile's flight control system to launch mirvs towards London or Washington ? Think twice. And everyone knows about it ! And they're all cool with it !

So the jews having presets to be able to launch nukes wherever they want is... sort of expected ? I don't know ?

There are way way way darker things about the israeli/jewish politics than this.

Anyway, I'm more worried about some islamic terrorist playing with a dirty bomb than this. Because I know neither France nor the UK would retaliate with nuclear fire in such a case. They would not know who to strike, and doing so would create an uproar in the muslim world.

Question is : what would israel do if they got a dirty bomb on their soil from an islamic terrorist cell operating from a nuclear capable european country ? This is an open question.

Do you actually think, in any world, that Israel has ICBMs able to reach fucking Washington?

>EVERY major nuclear player able to deliver nukes has plans to deliver them EVERYWHERE on the planet.
You got an actual source on that? Because it sounds like something you pulled out of your ass, given, at least, that having calculations pre-done for absolute fringe contingencies against long-standing allies seems a tad silly.
>>
>>31374100

>You know that, had the USSR/USA never been created, there would never have been radical Islamic terrorism (in the West).
>Supporting the KSA for oil, supporting and propping up the Shah in Iran to subvert the Soviets, vying with the Soviets over Israel, training "moderate" rebels in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets, supporting Zi'am in Syria to secure an oil and subvert the Soviets further, the Soviets supporting the Arabs after Israel ditched Communism, the Soviets supporting a coup/supporting Karmal/fighting the rebels in Afghanistan

Stop being retarded. If you want to find the trigger point for modern terrorism, go back to the end of WW1 and the break-up of the Ottoman Empire. The complete and utter incompetence of partitioning it in a such a that completely disregarded ethnic, cultural, and religious groups/borders, resulted in an utterly FUBARed region full of pissed off Arabs. The already FUBARed place only became worse with outside nations vying for control and influence, with a basic irreverence towards self-determination and self-governance, and a raging hard-on for oppressive regimes.
>>
>>31374135
Well, it's far, far, more complicated than that, but yeah, it doesn't take too much time and that was (somewhat) my point. We don't NEED to "have all the calculations made into their missile's flight control system". That's just ridiculous.

We can re-program our missiles (reasonably) quickly, not quickly enough that we're fine with leaving them all un-programmed mind you, but reasonably quickly. My point was that pre-calculating trajectories for the fringe contingencies of contingencies against allies is just ridiculous, there's just no reason to do so. Hell, we haven't even had nukes targeted towards Russia since 1994. We make determinations on the more likely targets we'd need to deal with and act accordingly, sure we could do the same with Britain and such, but, for the same reason we never updated our invasion plans for Canada, it's just that high on our list of priorities.

Now, I'll freely admit I'm not Oppenheimer-tier, so I'd actually like to get this confirmed/BTFO'd by him, but nothing I've seen suggests we've made preparations to nuke the UK, or any other of our nuclear-power allies.
>>
>>31374211

This is basic wargaming 101, people lost their shit a few years ago when it was """discovered""" that Canada had plans to invade the USA in WWII and some guy actually tested the theory. Why? During that time it was almost a real possibility that we might sympathize with Nazi Germany and Canada, being a Commonwealth nation, would need to fight us if that happened. At the time the UK/USA turbo friendship wasn't set in stone but it was highly unlikely that we'd swing that way so nobody took the idea extremely seriously. Even the actual act of "invading" was almost tongue-in-cheek but it did show how absurdly vulnerable the USA was at the time.

I have always wondered about this, since all the big nuke players have satellites that track ballistic launches, throwing a few nukes about would just get Israel nuked off the map.
Also would this not invoke some sort of Anti-samson plan from the other nuke players? Such as if they are the victim of a nuclear first-strike, a few nukes will be sent Israel's way.

Many years ago, when the Israeli nuclear program was still a hot, front page, topic, the Israeli prime minister was asked if he has nukes, to which he answered with: "Israel will never be the first country in a conflict, to attack with a nuclear weapon".
Israeli principles haven't changed much since then, so it's only logical the condition for nuking Iran is still the same: Iran has to try and nuke Israel, or otherwise conventionally defeat of Israel, which in Israeli terminology is "total and utter annihilation of the sate of Israel".
