So, I liked that the firearms really took a backsteat in this movie. Unlike

>Twd

>WWZ

But that was in 2009. Do you think if the movie was to be remade in 2017, tricked out ARs would see a bigger role?

Also, general Pokeclypse thread.

The Road is without a doubt the single most depressing piece of media I have ever consumed

isn't that the point of a movie/book themed like it is themed? cannibalism and human depravity are real things. people will do bad things to you. that'S why we have guns.

Doubt it. The novel is held in high regard and the fans wouldn't stand for anything less than a faithful adaption.

There's a German movie called Hell that has a similar flavor to The Road. It's a post-apocalyptic Germany where the sun burns people's skin and the planet has become hotter. Lots of /k/ stuff too, but like The Road it takes a backseat.

I've thought about the potential of not being a cannibal after reading Corncob's book.

Why didn't an engineer have a bunker somewhere and just use those marijuana grow light things? If there's no power, he's an engineer and could create some kind of bicycle powered generator. Grow vegetables and shit underground.

In the Metro series they're eating mushrooms and stuff that they're farming in the tunnels.

McCarthy doesn't use quotation marks or commas. Some people can't get used to this and thus hate his novels. They're missing out as he's possibly the greatest living American author.

>>31352271
The book actually addresses this. There's a passage about how in the early years people kept moving more or less, as resources dwindled, but cooperated.

Then, as they slowly realized the planet is kill and society isn't going back on the rails, people basically go crazy, stop cooperating and start killing each other.

For that matter, shit's fucking DONE in Metro too, in the book at least. It's far less livable and optimistic than you're making it out to be.

Game Metro is p comfy though, comparatively speaking.

>>31352408

I read the book three years ago. I guess I forgot that, but I still feel like it could be an option. I wonder if somewhere there is a guy living nicely on potatoes and stuff.

I've also only read 2033 and I recall them talking about mushrooms and pigs.

Art is subjective and both are held in very high esteem.

That said I find McCarthy's subject matter to be a lot more appealing and interesting than Wolfe's.

>>31352421
Weird, mutated mushrooms and pork are not enough to sustain a society, and iirc the population of the entire Metro (which the first book hints is possibly the last pocket of humanity, though apparently the books have turned into a franchise mill with sequels in different places) is like 40,000 (though again the book paints a grimmer picture) and dropping every day.

Humanity is fucked, mushrooms and pigs or no.

The Road is the only one of McCarthy's books that I've read. And since I thoroughly enjoyed it, I've been looking for another one of his works to read. I've been considering Suttree. Thoughts? Recommendations?

I tried reading the sample of The Road they had on the kindle store and I couldn't do it. His writing style was just so off putting

Blood Meridian you plen
>>
>>31352649
The Road, The Border Trilogy, and No Country For Old Men are probably the most accessible of his books.

Blood Meridian is fucking amazing. But also super densely written and stylistically difficult in the way McCarthy can be, so I don't usually recommend starting with that one. But it's his best book.

this, blood meridian is my favorite book by mccarthy. all of his books are hard to get into though, especially blood meridian
