Hey /k/ I'm looking into buying my first rifle. I want something I can hunt/innawoods/survival with. Been looking at ar-10s, AK variants, FAL, SKS (meemz or just really amazing???). I've shot my fair share of an ar15, but I'd much rather prefer to have a .308/7.62 chambered rifle. Any advice on what I should get?

Buy the vz58 for maximum advantages
>7.62 barrier penetration
>chrome barrel
>milled receiver
>only 6.4 pounds
>bolt hold open
>can load with strippers or mag
>7.62 good for all targets, four legged or two. Durr and hog stand no chance
>sexy slav aesthetic
Sks

You are aware that the FAL/AR10 and VZ/AK/SKS are completely different kinds of .30 caliber right?
>>31349978
Get a 45-70 levergat or a .308 bolt action. Easy to carry, good for hunting. If hogs and SHTF are included in your hunting and "innawoods", get AK variant. If you get a .308 semi auto don't get a fuckin AR.

Yes, I am just trying to get a .30 caliber rifle in general though
>>31349978
Get Vepr in .308.
Best of both worlds.

>>31349978

Those are kind of different OP
You're looking at an intermediate cartridge mostl likely (7.62x39) for the AKs and SKS and a lower price point ($350-600)
vs. a full power battle rifle cartridge (7.62x51 NATO) in the FAL, AR-10, and a correspondingly higher price ($1K-1.2K)
What's your need/budget? are you considering ammo price of one is twice the other ($.22 vs. $.50)? or that one gives you less ammo for same carrying capacity? weight of gun?
Something to add: You can get an AR chambered in pretty much any cartridge you want - up to and beyond .30 cal.
You can also get a G3 clone (PTR91/CETME/C308 that shoots .308 for $700.

You can assemble a .308 AR for much, much less, like $700 for everything.
>>31351716
true - but that takes some legwork, and OP said buy. I haven't seen an off the shelf AR-10 for less than about $750, and these are typically "optics ready" meaning you still have to buy front/rear sights.
>>31351716
how about a saiga 308? how much can those go for if you are aiming for budget?
>>31350389
All good, but don't forget the proprietary mags.

Thanks, and a .22 for you

FAL: Sick aethetics, badass chambering, accurate, runs like a thoroughbred, but relatively complex, lots of small parts, hates dirt, and ammo is expensive
AR-10: Cheaper than the fal generally, parts easily available, more accurate than the FAL generally, Generally its a baseline/benchmark of quality vs cost
SKS: Cheapest rifle here. One of the more accurate too, especially the para version. 7.62x39 is not nearly as powerful as 308win though, nor does it have the awesome ballistics.
VZ: Better than most AK's because its actually a military rifle not a parts kit knockoff.
AK: Like an SKS but more expensive with worse accuracy because semi-auto
Personal vote goes to a 308 Vepr. Make it a valmet clone too. Good ballistics because of the 308win. Good barrels, as good as the ar-10 if not better. Spectacular reliability, better than an AK because of the higher gas volume, so it blows the dirt right out. Simple, easy parts availability.

OP here. Might go with the vepr now, thanks. The ktr-03v looks like the best choice in the matter, just have to find one now.
