I kinda think 45+p+ beats out 45 super since you can still pink and the difference is minor. But 45 super probably beats out 10mm.

I would buy a 9mm before I buy a 10mm 1911. The ammo is just so much more expensive, even for the reloader, that the performance doesn't justify it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one and carry it, but .45 ACP makes people dead enough for my needs.

OP here. This is selling me on the 10mm because I'd like to use it as a woods carry gun as well as OC and HD. Hiking with rifles can be fun, but isn't always convenient. Is .45ACP enough for black bear on the off chance just shouting won't scare nigger pooh away?

Decently viable, just (protip) aim for the head. Anything above .380 is good for bears, granted you know shot placement and have some decent defensive ammo if you're expecting bears. Also a large magazine for the love of fuck.

One of the wonderful things about 10mm guns is that they can usually chamber and fire .40 S&W with good reliability due to .40 S&W literally being just shortened 10mm. Be warned, however: some guns run perfect with .40 S&W, some will malfunction a few times with .40 S&W, so i'd relegate shooting .40 to plinking and actual 10mm for defensive purposes, with 10mm going from 'it's just .40 but longer' to 'woah I just blew a half-dollar sized hole in that guys chest'. I'd suggest getting some of the second type (stuff like Underwood) if you want to use it for bears. Also if you buy a 2nd gen or prior Glock... get a new fully-supported barrel or else pic related will suddenly become relevant to you.

Even with a supported barrel it will wear out the 1911's frame way faster than its supposed to. 5000 rounds in youll probably see them.
