But an AK makes sense for general long-term durability. All the parts, ESPECIALLY the mags, are durable and heavily built.

For example, show me one M16 mag that made it out of the 70s or 80s. Meanwhile the vast majority of AK surplus mags on the market are from that time period, and work great.
