Getting the itch for a 1911 again so I've been shopping around a bit, not a whole lot to spend and don't know if it'll be a RIA but what's the deal with them anyway?

I kinda like this one, pic related, its their "ROCK STANDARD FS - 45ACP" Buds has the for $439.00. Are RIAs any good? Known issues? Are they better that the Taurus PT1911s? I had one of those way back and it was a loose fitting flyer shooting POS.

No, save a bit more and get a Springfield Mil-spec.

I have one,
It's a basic bitch, got bang Everytime 1911.
Don't expect Wilson combat fit and finish.
If you do have problems they will fix it, no first hand experience but I heard they are good about getting stuff fixed.
Just take it out and shoot a bunch through it and see how it goes.

Mines in .38 super for the extra special snowflake.
>>
>>31340447
"No" as in they're not good? Why the Springfield Mil-Spec?

.....Dude. I just looked it up, its $700 for a bitch basic 1911A1.

They're good, OP. I have pic related special snowflake like >>31340475 but in 10mm.

What's up with the front end? Is it a bushing-less barrel setup? How many mags did it come with? Is it tight fitting out of the box? As in, one of those 200 rd break in guns?
>>
>>31340476
They're not bad, but you can do better.

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/32592/Springfield+PB9108LP+1911+Mil-Spec+7+1+45ACP+5%22+Package

Bud's has a Springfield Milspec for what I would consider to be a decent price for a quality 1911.

my first 1911 was an RIA. They're good, solid, and aren't picky eaters. /k/ doesn't like them because they aren't Gucci or special enough, but I personally love them. And right out of the box, mine was more accurate than my Para is.
>>
>>31340525
Yeah it's bushing-less since it's a bull barrel. It came with only one mag but factory OEM mags are only $20, so not too bad. And yes, it's a tight fit and finish, but not in a bad way. The manufacturer docs suggest a 500rd break in period, but mine has been good to go out of the box with the 100ish rounds I've put through it so far.

Got it for $400 dollerydoos through RK Guns, hard to beat that for a decent 1911, let alone a snowflake caliber.
>>
>>31340649
What's the model number on yours? I'd like to take a look at this bull barrel.
>>
Not the best fit, not the best finish but rock solid.

I've shot a couple of thousand rounds through mine without a single issue and it makes a nice beater gun if you move on to more premium stuff.

>>31340525
Most if not all come with 1 mag and 2 sets of grips - wood and poly.
>>
>>31340664
MPN is 51508, Model Name is M1911-A1 FS (GI Standard)

RIA's are quite good on a budget, if you just want a bone standard A1 style pistol their GI model goes for like $300+, very good value for the money, perfect if you want a beater gun that's nicer than a Hi-Point or Taurus.
>>
>>31340592
>/k/ doesn't like them because they aren't Gucci or special enough
Granted, I don't come here all the time, but I frequently see people talk about how good of a beginner's pistol their 1911A1 is, and how it's good value.
>>
>>31340753
Thanks.

>>31340749
>a nice beater gun
This is more my speed. I've sold of a lot of my Gucci stuff and gotten back to brass tacks if you will. I need guns I'm not worried about scratching up, dropping, getting dirty, just generally abusing within reason.

I had also considered the PSA 1911, the Ruger SR1911 and so far that's been it.

I mean hell my AR upper is milspec with a nitride barrel, if that tells you anything.
>>
Ruger 1911 is pretty good
>>
>>31340881
Well I haven't handled one yet but they certainly look nice, but they're out of range on what I'm comfortable spending. I'm will to drop about $500+/-, but I don't want just a GI style 1911A1. And I'd prefer forged slide & receiver.
>>
>>31340475
Ages ago I had one that the rear sight would shimmy off due to recoil. Everything else was grand with it.
>>
>>31341597
Did yours have the set screw rear sight or was it the GI style dovetailed rear sight.
>>
>>31341629
Don't remember. They did send a new replacement sight and screw. Good customer service. It ended up being a problem with slide and where they drilled into it to mount the sight.
>>
>>31340433
They're hot garbage, and unreliable.

The only reason poorfags say they're reliable is because they only shot maybe a half a box through their's

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/03/jon-wayne-taylor/gun-review-rock-island-armory-gi-standard-fs-1911/

Evidence that its basically hot trash passed off as a bargain, and here if that isn't enough for your EBT carrying ass, the guy had the courtesy of doing a follow up review

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/06/jon-wayne-taylor/gun-review-rock-island-armory-gi-standard-fs-1911-part-2/

Stop this meme though, RIAs aren't the hi-points of 1911s because that would imply they had some kind of value.

They're made in a 3rd world nation, dont get delusional.
>>
>>31340433
RIA/Armscor is the biggest piece of shit brand that i have ever had to deal with at a gunshow

also beware their double stack "2011s", they use a lot of non interchangeable parts and mags

Damn should have read this review before i ran 3k rounds through my shitty RIA, even though it didnt jam.

wtf i hate my gun now
>>

Asshurt Colt/Springfield shareholder detected.
>>
>>31340433

I tried an RIA once.
It was either a lemon, or they're just shit guns, because i had a ton of jams, even with Wilson Combat mags.

I wouldn't bother with a 1911 for less than $550, preferably around the $650+ mark

Got a RIA gi used. I bought it because I was intrigued by the Sparrow hitman and I had no 1911 in the collection.
Was the previous owners beater and now my beater 1911. Shoots fine for me it has jammed on me a the first time I shot it(didn't clean it) and never again with a hodgepodge of garbage Tula and reloads(haven't tried hp). Not bad/10 I sometimes I carry it when I'm feelin surely with no holster.
>>
>>31340844
Not OP but I share your thoughts on not babying them. Doesn't mean I abuse/neglect my firearms but I only buy things where if the finish gets beat not an issue. Also I like to shoot dirty.steel case ammo so no safe queens over here
>>
>>31342616
Armscor quality control sucks but my two (RIA TAC & Citadel) were g2g. The Tactical had issue with some cheap white box hollow points but other than that they are beater blasters.

Buy an Armscor, shoot the piss out of it. If you have issues they will fix it. Order a EGW bushing and replacement grips, would be supervised with the value.

Cheap, decent trigger, goes bang. Got mine 5 years ago, is definitely reliable, and haven't had to replace any springs or anything yet. Good customer service too if you do need to send it in for whatever reason.
