It's funny to me to even imagine how my 2 years old son grows up and starts questioning my judgement on how I live my fucking life.

Is he politically anti-gun or does he just not want to own one. Because I can definitely respect the latter. People being uncomfortable with owning a weapon, or simply recognizing that it might cause issues (temper, suicidal tendancies) is perfectly fine. It's just when they decide that others shouldn't have guns either that I take issue.

This may come as a shock, but not everyone should own a gun. A right to have one, no doubt. The fact your dad acknowledges his quick temper and decided flat out not to allow himself a chance to make a mistake as big as a shooting is something to be proud of.

I get that you want to protect your dad and mom in his advancing years, but as an adult it's his choice and to thrust guns on him is not something you should be doing. Leave him be, and in the off chance someone does brake in or whatever, there will be plenty of things around to kill and maim the intruder with. If your father is as quick to rage as he claims, he fists will be all he needs.
