To any anons that are in the Marine Corps and have used one, what are your thoughts on it?
>>
>>31338094
Real US Marines are still using Vietnam and First Gulf War tech...flying around in Hueys and driving around in metal boxes...maybe in 20 years young marines may actually have their hands on those.
>>
>>31338185
Bait surely
>>
how do they expect to suppress cunts with a 30rnd mag?

dumbest SAW replacement ive ever seen
>>
>>31338474
It's not a replacement, but a supplement, and anyone with an IQ above 80 will realize just why they have put a heavy barrel rifle with a bipod and 3.5x optic into squads.

Then again, your post is probably not genuinely stupid either, just a bad attempt at making me angry.
>>
>>31338474
You were never shot at.

Its less scary to have impacts 50m around you than 5m around you ... alot!
>>
>>31338474
It's the same concept as a RPK. If real suppression is called for I would hope you have a 240 gunner nearby.
>>
>>31338474
one round hitting within a few meters is enough to suppress an enemy for a short period, you don't need to waste 80 taxpayer dollars every time you spot someone.
>>
>>31338512
>>31338515
>>31338605
>I know nothing about what Im talking about: The post
>>
>>31338094
Even though my saw was used worse than a uwm ho, it failed once every 2 belts pretty predictably. Id rather have it for the job than a 416 with 30 round mags. However, i volunteered to carry thre saw because no1 else wanted to. I think that is a big reason why they didnt get more new m249s but i think we have a big fucking capability gap now until or if the marines get the lsat. There was always bitching about the 249 and m9 when i was in but everyone quickly forgets the years of neglect and abuse that our weapons have been subjected to before we had to use them.
>>
>>31338668
Bs
Faggot
>>
>>31338094
I like it. The idea is that instead of shooting a fuckload of semi-accurate rounds from a SAW, you're firing less rounds but much more accurately. I think the optic on it is 5x, not 4x like the regular acogs we have on the M4s, and combined with it's freefloating barrel it basically doubles as a DMR.

The obvious pain in the ass part about it is that you have to carry 20 magazines, and your A-gunner carries some extra too. But this also removes the issue of trying to load a mag into a SAW when the box ammo runs out, and then getting a jam because it sucks at that.
>>
>>31338094
Seems like all the disadvantages of BAR/Bren. Hopefully M240's don't go out of fashion.
>>
>>31338930
Why do people keep assuming the SAW is somehow less accurate?
>>
>>31338094
Basically the same as.

Fire a round every second or every two. Repetitive like a drum.
>>
>>31339039
Idk a belt fed weapon that's fired 12,000 rounds and hasn't had the barrel replaced because of budget constraints might not be as accurate as you think.
>>
>>31339039
Because it is. The damn things have trouble running properly and compared to brand new M27's, will have barrels close to the end of their lifespan.
>>
>>31339039
Because you are chugging out rounds on area targets with 5.56mm. Here is a exciting concept : aimed fire!
>>
>>31339087
>>31339099
I'm just saying the design itself isn't somehow smagically worse.
>>
>>31339106
I take it you've never shot one before have you lol? You can aim with a SAW, this isn't counter strike.
>>
Why not just come up with some sort of reliable +50 round magazine.

If the Cmag is unreliable then try and do some kind of casket mag or snail drum mag.
>>
>>31339125
yes and the M27 is more accurate anyway

dumb as fuck. you can just freefloat a few m16s and throw a bipod on them and have the same thing.
>>
>>31339144
From the closed bolt.
>>
>>31339149
But thats wrong you fucking retard.
>>
>>31339180
how the fuck is it wrong bitch? adding a marginally heavier barrel is literally nothing.

>>31339085
Apparently the LSW's were used more or less as a DMR before they got the L129, meant to be accurate as fuck which doesn't surprise me given dat barrel length and such
>>
>>31339265
Because the M16 has fully automatic capabilities right? No shit bitch.
>>
>>31338185
METAL BOXES
>>
>>31339665
700 meters easy.
800m you could still pin someone, and 900m you could harass arseholes like you wouldn't believe.

Problem was at those ranges a 5.56 did jack shit to a person.

Now its relegated to training units as the crow cannon, for crows to use since it heavy and accurrate, helps develop good skills and strength amongst new recruits.

when L129 was issue every NCO scrambled to get one, Ditching super ally L85s with UGLs with a SPECTRE DR, EOTECHs and LLMs.
Great bit of kit.

Yeah that's more or less what I heard about it.
Everyone wants the new toy I suppose, shame they don't have UGL's for the L129, that big ass ACOG looks tasty though

They're supposedly trying to get a replacement for the UGL which is probably going to be the m320 and be affixed via RIS.

which would mean it may happen mate

Its already in use with special forces, MPs and MI

>>31339865
I thought Brits were issued the Spectre OS, not the DR. It is a fixed 4x instead of 1-4x, but it also doesn't have problems holding zero when switching the magnification and is lighter
>>
I was under the impression it was more of a political thing, that they pitched it as a saw replacement but actually used it as a dmr
>>
>>31340075
yep you're Right my bad, i'm too used to typing DR after SPECTER.

>>31340145
Well it was to work like the L4 Bren guns in 7.62 NATO. Problem is its 5.56.
>>
>>31338515

Why this POS was even accepted into service again?

>>
>>31339039
it's not that a saw is inaccurate. but it is an area target weapon.
we're introducing more point target weapons.
>>
>>31340261
Nothing wrong with it. They just get worn the fuck out but because they still technically shoot the military is like "it's fine for just another funding cycle" until they're two decades later and they actually need to put it to real use and suddenly they desperately need to replace it.

Politicians are smart and not at all shortsighted you see.
>>
I got to use it for a week in ITB. super fun to shoot, it serves its role as a LMG well. Of course a 240 would do a better job suppressing, but that also weighs a fuck ton more and it's harder to bunny hop with it
>>
I've seen Gunners take a new saw out to 400 yd 1st round hits with ease an regularity. Likewise with the 240, it's 600+. They are not inaccurate. Everything become fickle and less accurate after decades of abuse though. We should have replaced the saw inventory vs picking up the IAR. It is no more capable that the new crop of FN built M4s and M16s we have. It might be marginally more accurate but I doubt that will be discernible in combat and the 416 is certainly no replacement for the volume of fire, the ability to break contact, or set the rhythm of battle you get with a proper MG.
>>
>>31340394
>Politicians are smart and not at all shortsighted you see.
This is sarcasm, right?
>>
Its meh, I like not lugging 30lbs around all day, but at the same time it goes against a lot of what I learned in SOI.

Then again, I've never had one in combat so I dunno if my opinion matters.

I personally, would have liked to see an 417 variant, but that's because I've got a hard on for AR10s.
>>
>>31339139
AR magwells don't like them.
>>
Piston AR. Those boys are walking dead alteady, because their buffer tube is going to shit the bed in the middle of an engagement when they hit the 3000 round count.
>>
>>31339153
Barrel life has alot more to do with it.

>>31338094
I got to fire it a few times, as well as the m249. Its much more accurate than the m4 or m16. Would prefer to see this as the standard infantry rifle, with m249s still being implemented in fire teams.

Sorta related to the thread since we're on the subject of Marine weapons, why doesn't the military give a shit about maintaining their M9's? Is it just something so down their priority list?
>>
>>31341395
Literally only issued to officers/senior enlisted. Few mortarmen and machinegunners get one too.
>>
>>31339023
>>31339087
You replace barrels after they fail erosion tests. My army has 12 SAW barrels and a few M240 barrels waiting to be dropped off at DRMO. Dumb grunts think they're using the same barrels from the weapon's date of issue.
>>
>>31341312
I count 3 M27's and 0 SAW's. Where's the dumb nigger saying SAW's weren't replaced now?
>>
>>31339694
Yeah because there is no such thing as a full auto trigger for the M16? They became lostech after the M16A2? Dumb marine.
>>
>>31341441

Armory not army
>>
>>31338094

I don't see why the muhreens have this weapon.

WhatS wrong with having a good ol 249/240 and m16s/m4s?

>but muh short stroke piston

Why not retrofit the existing weapons to have a piston?
>>
>>31341538
Its not even the piston, its the bolt. A little piece of metal heats up and makes it run in open bolt mode to keep rounds from cooking off.
>>
>>31340888
>muh DI system will never be improved upon or surpassed
>>
>>31338094
Its cool to fire and very accurate. I put a 9 rd burst on a targets torso at 300m the first time I shot it. Ive seen that they crack bolt heads more often than M16/M4s but they do get shot more.

>>31338930
It's a 3.5x.
>>
>>31341570
No it doesn't you fucking mongrel. The M27 is closed bolt only.
>>
>>31341843
Apparently in the early stages of development it was both closed and open bolt depending on the fire mode.

I really liked it in BF3.
>>
>>31341709

You can mitigate carrier tilt, but you're never going to get rid of it entirely. What's the round count before they erode the buffer tube? They going to swap that out in the field?

They broke something that worked just fine and we paid them money for it.
