Why did 8mm Mauser never catch on in the US?

Even .303 British and 7.62x54R are more widely available.

Jews.

It got all shot up. Just like .303 did, .30-06 will and pretty soon 7.62x54r

It used to be relatively popular, but once the surplus market dried up (both ammo and most rifles bar Yugos), people just lost interest. It sits in the same place as .30-06, but without the century of being ingrained in the collective Fudd psyche.

Because pretty much everyone using it was in Central Europe, and they by-and-large stopped using it after 1945 because reasons. Portugal, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia where the only ones left using it, and they gradually shifted to other calibers because NATO and WAR-PAC. Yugoslavia held onto it as a DMR cartridge until the early 2000s at least.

But...but...I do...

30-06 is an immensely popular fudd round that still has tons of domestic production, it's not gonna get 'shot up'

I think he meant surplus would be shot up and for all intents and purposes it really is.

I do

Because .30-06 does essentially the same thing out of a similar Mauser action (1903A3)
