Post cheap 3rd world CAS platforms. Something that would pair well with an army that issues FALs.
If israel did it and one against a superior force than it must have worked well, pic related, romanian bf109 sold to Israel for first air force
Brazilian Super Tucano. Prop plane in the age of next gen jets. Looks fun to fly tho

Wow, the irony of your first air force sporting the fighters of the nation that tried to exterminate your race...

It's not meant to go up against fighter jets. It's role is Policing 3rd world airspace, and providing CAS in an non hostile environment. Perfect for use in South America, Africa, and the Middle East. Couple that with the low cost of maintenance and fly time.

The Israelis used fucktons of Kraut surplus early in the nation's history.
Mainly because it was good stuff at a cheap price, the germans were forced by law to get rid of it, countries like Italy were selling off as much captured gear as they cold.
8x57mm was amongst the main rifle cartridges used by a fledgling Israel.
Old German mausers can sometimes be found on the surplus market with stars of David stamped over the waffenamts. Although most such rifles were later rebarreled for 7.62NATO. Some were actually converted to 20mm Muzzleloaders for use against enemies hiding behind walls.

Narrow under carriage and high landing speed meant that the BF109 was the bane of unexperienced fliers.
Now the Fw190 was a whole different story.

Made worse by the fact the only engines the Israelis and Czechs had available were Junkers Jumo 211 engines, designed for medium bombers like the Ju 88 and He-111.
>have fighters, but no fighter engines
>have bomber engines, but no bombers
>We're at war with every single country that borders us, why the hell not?
Result: only 5 airworthy at any time, all of which "tried to kill [Israeli pilots] every takeoff and landing". Still somehow managed to effectively fight the Arab air forces around them, though whether that's a testament to Israeli skill or Arab incompetence is up to the historian.
