Hey /k/ just got this 3rd gen glock 19, the slide plate looks like there's excess wear on it.

It doesnt hinder the function of the gun but its bugging me, is the slide mal-fit or is it just a shitth slide plate???

Some tard probably tried to take the backplate off with pliers without depressing the striker spring thingy and fucked up the plastic a little.

If you think it's ugly then replace it but it's only cosmetic.

Bought it brand new, if its purely cosmetic its fine, just wondering if it was a bad fit on the frame but the part of the frame that runs througnt that blemished channel is flawless

Alright guys, yesterday I went with my friend to his buddy's house to hang out, where he showed us his Mossberg shotgun, bolt action rifle, and a compact pistol. For reference I haven't been around weapons in about 4-5 years (last time I went pistol shooting was at a range during college). I knew to check/put the safety on, eject the magazine, and pull back on the slide to clear the chamber (I knew he wouldn't hand me a loaded gun, but it never hurts to check).

Anyway, after hanging out he invited me and a few others to go shooting with him at a range this Sunday, and I need to know the proper technique(s) for handing and firing guns. As a bonus, he kept trying to convince me to purchase a gun, but I told him not until I get a gun safe (the closest thing I have right now is a little fire-proof lockbox).

So with all that being said, any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks
>>
>>31319134
Got it for 550 otd, california makes it so we cant get gen 4s.

To be fair it was the last one they had at the time of purchase therefore the display gun that people were fingerfucking.

tge alternative is drop the leupolds and get a vortex scope that i can use for competitions too

CCW question.

Think I could get away with wearing a bullet belt in public, with real bullets, and pass it off as a goth/metalfag fake one? I wear black and band t-shirts anyway, so it wouldn't look out of place.

If so, what handgun caliber would look the most like the fake bullets they use? This might affect my choice of ccw weapon, I'm shopping right now. Probably a revolver.

>>

But do you think most normies could tell the difference? Metalfags wear a bullet belt all the time, and I've seen fake ones that look exactly like .45 LC.

>>31321385
haha it would be fun, but I've pretty much got my heart set on a revolver. .38 spl +p most likely

Two questions,

1) what is a recommended brand of rail covers. Currently using shitty Chinese made ones on my picatinny.

2) would a ruger lc9 be a better iwb cc gun than an mp shield 9? Also considering the lcp as they are inexpensive.

Let me rephrase the question: Can normies tell the difference between a fake bullet belt and a real one?

(inb4 check local laws: I'm in a state with constitutional carry, it's all good)
>>
>>31319304
You did good to check and clear the chamber when he handed it to you. There's no such thing as being too careful.

Just lookup the four rules of gun safety, as well as always keep the gun pointed at the ground until you are ready to fire. Don't be scared of the gun because that's when you forget things and start muzzle sweeping people. Just respect the gun and it will respect you
>>
>>31319191
Where did you get that backplate?
>>
>>31322623
I mean if you dress that way already, go for it, it's been a while since I've seen those gun belts, but do the bullets usually say a specified caliber or no?
Also, not sure how to phrase it, but buy a nice belt for this so the loops don't rip, in the event you do this.

I do. Leather jacket, metal t-shirt, black jeans, the whole nine yards. It's fun.

They don't say. They're usually blatantly plastic on the cheap ones, but the more realistic ones are usually made to look like belt-fed machine gun belts. Pic related is kind of the look I'd be going for--they sell almost this exact fake belt at the mall (in Hot Topic, if you must know), and I've seen people wearing them in public without any trouble.

I know some basic leatherworking, and I'd probably make the belt myself, but it will look very much like the pic. I think I'll use .38 spl +p, and get a small revolver to do a small-of-the-back IWB carry. Maybe .45 LC, if I can find a revolver that's still small enough to CC.
>>
>>31322850
I'm still against it, but it's not my life, I will say 38 would probably look more non realistic than 45 lc would. Thinner and easier I'd imagine.
>>
>>31322384
>1) what is a recommended brand of rail covers. Currently using shitty Chinese made ones on my picatinny.
KAC or Magpul. Are you talking just the little ladder looking ones or ones that actually cover the whole rail.
Pic is KAC. I have and have used both but currently only use KAC. The Magpul covers are a lot harder to get off, but they can be pieced together to be the exact size and multiple colors too.

More the first than the second. My worry with the second is people being assholes and taking them/loops breaking. Not to insult your leather skills.

>>
>>31323944
My thought was that anyone educated enough to tell the difference would be too pro-gun to care. I'm in rural New England if that makes a difference. I think I can make it strong enough that the loops won't break--might even use an elastic strip to hold them in--and if people take them somehow... *shrug* .38 spl. is cheap. I'm not letting random people get that close to me anyway.

Biggest thing is to never point it at anyone. Not when it's empty, because it's never empty, not when you're taking it to the firing line, and not when you turn around to point out your amazing 12" group at 7 yards. Make sure your flesh is out of the way of the slide. Count your rounds, anyone trying to fire an empty gun looks like a dumbass. Also keep an eye on your friend, to make sure he isn't being unsafe. Having guns does not magically make him not a dumbass. Unless you have kids, buying a safe for one gun is a little derpy. You may as well just buy two guns and hide one in case the first gets stolen, because a safe that's too big to steal will cost more than one gun.

And here's some free marksmanship advice: lean forward, not back. Use two hands. Tighten your grip until your hand shakes, then back off a little until the shaking stops. This will be you most steady grip strength. Pull the trigger on the exhale, the sights will be moving around in a figure 8 so plan accordingly. Focus first on the rear sight, to create a sight picture, then on the target, and finally focus ONLY on the front sight when lining up your shot. The target will be blurry, that's fine, you brain can calculate the center.

>>31319940
Damn, at that price, ATI is good enough. They are the same quality as RIA, but RIA will have better support, so choose wisely. I'd take my chances, but make sure you are okay with those sights. They are expensive to upgrade, and you can get RIAs with good shit pre-installed.
>>31322623
No, normies cannot generally tell the difference. I once went to a SJW coworker's halloween party wearing a tactical vest full of live shotgun shells, some horrified cunt asked if they were real and i said no, nobody questioned me. You may want to take a good long look at the choices you make, I mean in general.

A few rules I tell anyone new I take shooting
1) always treat a gun as if it's loaded
2) know what your aiming at and what's behind it.
3) when your gun is empty, aim at the ground or in the air, before turning around.
4) never point the weapon at anything you don't want to destroy.
5) never point it at another human.
6) ear and eye protection when you or anyone is shooting.
7) relax, try to learn and have fun.

Any decrease in length will decrease muzzle velocity. Most people say 16" is minimum acceptable length, but for most sbr use cases, the bullet won't need to go 300m anyway.

So I got a new pack with a pretty big waist belt that prevents me from carrying my gun directly on my belt whilst /out/

I know I don't want a full drop that'll put my glock 20 on my knee.

So far I'm thinking of of the g code mule with the reac clip so I can hook it on my belt rather than having to loop it through, and have it held higher than a regular drop leg.

And it seems that safariland makes a better holster than g code, so I'll get one of their ALS holsters because I'm paranoid about having my gun fall out or get caught and pulled out or something.

And attach it with the rti adapter plate.

Anybody have any better ideas? Also, does the rti wheel rattle at all?

Shoulder holster? fanny pack? I got a drop leg holster, made by blackhawk, for the same reason. The hanging part can fold back on itself, so that the gun sits just below the belt. You are forced to use the flap that way, unless you cut it off, since there is a removeable thumb break inside. It's not a great holster but it gets the job done, and everything is configurable. Actually it's downright overengineered.
>>
I just like steel guns aesthetically and I like the idea of high capacity, but both those things add to the weight of a gun. How does it feel to carry a heavier gun compared to a lighter gun? Say a CZ 75 compared to a glock 19. Or even something way bigger to something smaller.

QC at Keltec sucks hard. Feels cheap and creaks. However the RFB is a goddamned unicorn, and if you can find it for a good price, try it and see if you like it. If it doesn't bug you? Keep it. If it does, you will likely find a buyer willing to give you most of what you paid for it.

I agree that there is no such thing as being careful when handling a firearm. I didn't know about the four rules of gun safety (I know to treat all guns as if they are loaded, and to only aim the gun at something you intend to destroy). Keeping it pointed at the ground I didn't know about either; at his house I had the gun aimed at a wall where no one was sitting; I hadn't thought about what may have been on the other side of the wall (people, houses, etc.).

>>31324664
Thanks for the detailed advice, anon. Regarding my flesh being out of the way of the slide, I assume it should be completely underneath the slide, as it will (hence its name) slide back to eject the empty shell casing. Count my rounds, as in Archer style? (heh)

The reason I mention the gun safe is because I still live with my family (grandmother, mother, 2 of my 3 sisters; the eldest sister has a 3 year old and 3 month old that are constantly coming over and playing). I know it may seem derpy, but the 3yr old especially loves to come into my room and dig through everything - I mean everything (I keep musical instruments, toy cars, etc.). If you are being serious about buying two guns, I may just do that.

I don't know what "creating a sight picture" means - can you please explain?

Thank you so much!

I own a p2000, CZ 75B, and a PCR Compact. Of the three, I prefer to carry the P2000. If you want a range gun, I would go with the full size CZ. The PCR Compact is a good gun too, but it isn't as comfortable to carry as the P2000, in my opinion.

I just recently bought an M1 and it doesn't automatically eject the clip when it is empty.

If I press the manual ejection it flies out of there which leads me to believe that the ejector spring is good, which most people online says is usually the problem.

I feel like it is missing a piece that automatically ejects when empty.

Has anyone had the same problem?

I recently bought pic related, it's a Savage 10 P-SR which I'm trying to use for a budget build.

I get free classes at my local range since I donated my time for their website and they have a couple precision rifle classes coming up that I'd like to attend. The first class is basics and shooting out to 500-600y I believe, with the 2nd trying to push everyone's rifles out to 800-1000y and I think that would be really great to keep up with.

I know this rifle is capable of 1000y as it's the exact same model MAC used for their "$1000 1000y rifle" series. However, that video is dated and scope technology seems to change pretty rapidly.

So now that you know my purposes for the rifle and expectations - what would my best scope option be in the <$500 range? I can wiggle a bit if a vast improvement is available for a little more.

Thanks /k/

Just be familiar with the safety rules. 10 commandments of gun safety are a common one, others have given good advice as well. Ask if you have any questions about ANYTHING (There are no dumb questions when firearms are involved), relax and have fun.

Shooting is a little weird at first, but given enough time, they become like any other machine - each having it's own little quirks and rules so to speak, much like driving a car. I had the benefit of being raised around guns, so never had the mental blocks some people have to get over. (years of society telling you "Guns are bad, m'kay?" essentially)

As far as what to buy I generally do some research and eventually erm, let a gun speak to me (You just kind of know when you find one you want to have / like), but thoughts differ and there is literally a lifetime of both in person and internet data to read on various firearms and their pros and cons.
>>
>>31328305
Probably something in the high magnification leupold, vortex, or Nikon brands will be your best options.
>>
>>31328305

Don't forget to do a proper break in procedure for a precision gun. Some say it's not necessary, but as this is a factory gun, it might not be a bad idea. Even Savage recommends it:

https://www.savagearms.com/firearms/proceduresbarrelbreakin/

I would personally recommend getting Shooters Choice MC7 as a cleaner and using FP-10 or Weapon Shield as your oil. Special additives in those oils will help smooth out the barrel metal on a microscopic level, making it easier to clean and possibly (slightly) more accurate down the road. You'll also get increased barrel life.

Rem Oil, Hoppes and nearly every other gun oil won't have the same effect.

>>31328366
Pretty much what this guy said. Barska's top end of the range might be OK as well, but for that price you can get a decent Nikon or Vortex.
>>
Does using a thread adapter on a barrel affect accuracy at all? Is there anything I should do to it, like use Loctite, or can I just screw it on and leave it?

5/8-24 RH to 1/2-28 RH btw.
>>

Thanks for the replies. I do like Vortex as a company, I've had luck with their products in the past but never magnified optics.

A friend pointed me in the direction of this deal

http://aaoptics.com/VIPER-HS-LR-25-10X32-FFP-RIFLESCOPE_p_139.html

Which looks like some nice features for a great price, however do you think it would be suitable for 1000y at only 10x?

>creating a sight picture
The front and rear sight must be aligned in a certain way, so that the point of impact is predictable and repeatable. The exact sight picture varies depending on the sights, but take for example a three dot sight. You look at the rear sight, which has two dots, and you place the front sight dot exactly in between and level with the two rear dot, so it looks like this:
o o o
When aligned like that, the bullet will impact just above the middle dot. You can now acquire the target, and your brain will automatically keep the sights aligned as you move the gun to bear. You will not be perfectly steady, so just watch the front sight and pull the trigger as it passes over the desired point of impact.

With practice this whole process becomes natural and fluid, almost automatic. For quick point shooting, such as self defense, you skip the final adjustment and just go sights-target-boom. Obviously this requires training and familiarity with the weapon if you expect to hit anything that way.

My father left this old gun safe in my house, and I now plan to use it, but it only has one key is it possible to to change the lock?
There is no brand name on the safe or the key just the words "do not copy" on the key. If it helps the key is one of those weird round type of key.

Why do people, especially grown men buy .22s?

I understand that they are cheap and cheap to shoot, but aside from that what is the point?

Every time I shoot someone else's .22 I feel like I'm just wasting my time and money, I might as well shoot a pellet gun. It's not fun to me.

So in my Mossberg 500 it has a 8 round mag. With 2 3/4 in Winchester birdshot it holds the 8 rounds, however with Winchester 2 3/4 slugs it only holds 7 rounds in the tube. I compared the shells and the slugs are about 1/10 of an inch longer, why is this?
>>
>>31328987
You answered your own question, that extra 10th of an inch for 7 rounds is compressing the spring enough to where it cant load the 8th.

Its not unusual
>>
>>31328972
A .22 is useful.

Training marksmanship, taking small game are what theyre good for.

A lot cheaper than anything else

What's the deal with Remington 870 pump actions? I've heard something about a quality decrease from models around the 90's and later, or something. Any info appreciated. Presently leaning towards pic related.
>>
>>31329604
I like 870's better but they aren't perfect. The 870 is tighter overall, you'll know what I mean if you handle a mossberg. Disassembly is easier with the 870. They sometimes choke up on cheap birdshot with the steel rim. So don't go shooting trap with it. That's really the only reason to shoot birdshot though it unless you're just having fun. And even then, it's not every round that has problems and it's only some brands. 500's are fine but the 870 is a little bit better. The issues with the 870 are pretty important to people who like the 500. I have rifles that I would use in shtf so my shotguns are really just a toy to me. But even if they weren't, I would still go with an 870. You just rack it extra hard when a round gets stuck.

So I'm more familiar with hammer fire pistols than striker fire pistols, and this may seem like a very stupid question, but I assume the only way to decock a striker fire pistol is by pulling the trigger on an empty gun?

Common pistol caliber JHPs were all designed to perform within the FBI testing protocol. This means all major pistol calibers ended up being engineered to perform roughly the same. A bigger bullet will leave a slightly bigger hole but compared to any rifle caliber your common pistol stuff is basically all equally pathetic.

Is openly carrying appendix less acceptable than 3-4 o clock?

I largely don't give a shit about worrying about concealing all the time now, and I alternate between a g19 and a shield carried appendix.

I felt weird and mexican OCing in my appendix/dick, so I've been sliding the holsters over to 3 when I don't feel like tucking in my shirt or wearing a jacket.

Am I just being weird or is open carry in appendix something to be avoided

SKS was good when it was cheap. It's not anymore. You can have a basic AR for around $500 which is about $100 more than an SKS. The basic AR will have better ergos and the whole detachable magazine thing, which is cheap and abundant.

556 swat patrol. One of the older ones with a collapsible and adjustable stock. Bought it lightly used from a coworker for a bit over 800 a few years back. I mentioned it was a rifle I always wanted to buy, he brought up he had one to sell that he didn't care for since he built some nice ar's. She's taken some abuse, but she's still damn solid.
>>
>>31330533
Unless you need to access it while driving or have trouble concealing there is no advantage, people will just look at you and worry about your testicular safety. At 3:00 it does not impede movement and you have the fastest draw, so don't deviate from there without a reason.

>>31328972
If you can shoot on your own property I could see going through lot of .22, otherwise yeah, dry fire practice with a real gun is more effective. I have a couple that I haven't shot since I was a kid, I brought them to the range once for my nogunz friends but nobody even wanted to try them.

So I'm looking at buying a Midwest Industries rail and I've heard about a lot of low profile gas blocks being too tall and not being able to install the rail correctly. I was wondering if anyone here has had any luck with a clamp-on style low profile gas block and this rail. I'm going with clamp on because I'd like to be able to easily remove the gas block when my stamp comes back and I put a shorter barrel on it and I'm not set up to do a good job at cutting a channel for pinning it

how worried should I be about handling lead bullets? are fmj bullets safer that soft-point types? Why not use steel or copper bullets?
>>
>>31333146
Yes.
>>
>>31334467
Are you licking the bullets and your hands and fitting yourself before washing your hands? If your answer is no, your good.
>>
>>31334467
Just wash you hands well after you handle them. You won't absorb it through your hands, but you will through any food you contaminate. If you want to worry, worry about the air circulation at your indoor range. Breathing in lead dust regularly will raise your levels noticeably.

>Why not use steel
Poor ballistics, among other reasons
>or copper bullets?
feasible, but expensive

The risk is not great enough to require large scale change, except in certain circumstances, e.g. wetlands.
