Good ol Model 1897 whats the difrence between winchester made and nirinco made? And is there anyone else that makes them? If so were can i buy one?
>>
>>31318040
Norinco a shit

Get a real Winny, they're amazing. Inherited my dad's 1897 that he had cut down to a 18.5" BBL, it's the most fun shotgun I've ever shot. I think the gun was made ca. 1928 or so IIRC.
>>
>>31318040
The Norinco clone will be heavier and made from inferior steel, have poor wood quality, and have a crappy extractor and bolt.

So will the new Winchesters, they're imports now.

The originals will be ass-bleachingly expensive and you won't want to fire them, so your best bet at a quality one is a model before the 2000's.
>>
>>31318094
>The originals will be ass-bleachingly expensive
If you want a legit trench gun

If you just want a regular 1897 they're easily sub 1k for a good one.

OP, trust me, you'll be happy with a plain jane 1897, it's still buckets o fun to shoot. If you really want a tried and true legit trench gun then good luck, break out the pocket book.
>>
>>31318040
I got a Winchester Mod 12 at a gunshow a while back. Neat thing that I haven't actually shot yet, S/N puts it at 1922 production and it's a takedown model with one of those adjustable chokes from the factory

I've been playing with the idea of getting a replica heat shield and modify/rebuild it until it works on my Mod 12 without any permanent modification to the shotgun to give me a not-Trench Gun
I work in a machine shop, so fucking with things is definitely within my skill set
>>
>>31318094
>Inferior steel
Wanna bet on that?
>>
>>31318094
>The originals will be ass-bleachingly expensive

Only if you want an original trenchgun from WWI.

Field, riot, and bird guns are easily had for cheap.

I got mine for under $400, a 1903 solid frame field gun
>>
>>31318136
So buy a roit style 1897 and buy heat sheild for bad-assery
>>
I have a norinco clone that I picked up new for about $200. Other than the pump wearing a line of finish off the mag tube I haven't had any issues in the 1000 rounds I've put through it. Only load I haven't given it is slugs and that's because I haven't bothered getting any.
>>
>>31318094
>The originals will be ass-bleachingly expensive

I see them all the time for around $500
>>
>>31318169
I just sold a model 12 trench gun barrel on gunbroker.
>>
>>31318179
why are you the worst trip

I love my 1897
Especially since I cut it down to barely legal length.
Way more fun to shoot now, plus i think the SN places it at 1905ish so it's an oldie!
>>
>>31318215
Because you weren't here for H21Fagtual?
>>
>>31318205
It'll handle slugs well. I've fired hundreds of shells through my Norinco without issues. The only problems were when I first got it. I was trying to slam fire when I pumped too hard and somehow both the spent and fresh shell fell out the ejection port. Pumping with less force worked.

Oh, and I also bought a cheap repro bayonet. POS fell off after 2 shots. I only put it on when showing it off to friends.

I honest to god hope you get molested by a fat bald man.

And now I'm getting some ideas

I take it back, i hope you get fingerblasted on a public train by at least two fat bald men.
>>
>>31318348
I only paid $85 from a grieving widow so I don't mind chopping it. she didn't want the thing in her house and I managed to tell her it's worth less than a single shot since it's so old.

I did pay $85
But it was in a foam case in someone's basement for years.
The thing was rusted shut and it took forever to get the screws out. I only chopped it since there is no value left.
Also I cut the piece of the barrel with a pipe cutter just to fuck with /k/, the actual barrel is nicely cut.
>>
>>31318444
You're a mean person, but since you were nice enough to explain the truth, i only hope you get some light fondling by a fat bald man.
>>
1903 manufacture takedown owner here. 30 inch full choke barrel. I normally shoot a 20 to 22 in trap with mine.

Is there any concensus about lengthening the forcing cone as a bad or good thing? The previous owner already had it lengthened but my LGS says they dont need it. Is it a dangerous modification?

I got a norinco 1897 and God damn I love it. They use Missouri walnut and it's such a nice feeling gun. The heatsheild and bayonet lug at a bit of weight but damn the sex appeal is real.
>>
>>31318206
Yeah and they're in terrible shape.

IAC m97, IAC Cowboy, IAC Trench, it's the import names, call around for IAC and norinco. The lug and bayonet I got from IMA
>>
>>31319332
So is that a "yes, I will put myone year where my mouth is" or not? Because if so, I'll fire up my metallorgraph and spectrometer and we can find out really easy. Or are you just parroting memes and actually don't know shit about manufacturing or metallurgy?
>>
>>31319376
On the IMA website it says "Not for actual use" on the heat shield, it hasn't caused you any issues?
>>
>>31319383
Go right ahead. Prove you aren't a tremendous faggot and contribute something to the forums for once.

I didn't tighten it properly and it came off with the bayonet on it, hammered it back on and fired some slugs to stress test it. It's fine.
>>
would it be difficult to just attach the heat shield/bayo lug combo to a 97 riot gun?

>buy mossberg 500
>buy heat shield and wooden furniture for like 150 bucks
>have bayonet lug
>have higher capacity

Someone tell me why this is stupid other than it not being a real 1897
>>
>>31320100
>stupid
aint nothing stupid about it.

Just doesn't have that trench gun swagger.
>>
>>31318040
If you want to scratch the trench gun itch without dumping $1000+ into an original, get a Norinco. You can mount a bayonet and slamfire all day with em and it'll be just as fun, without having to worry about 90+ year old metal cracking, or ruining the value of an antique.

People will talk shit about Norincos all day, but get what you want, dude.

>>31320100
Because you can't hold down the trigger and masturbate the pump furiously, blowing six hot loads of 00 buck in the general direction of whatever you're aiming at. Slam fire is fun as fuck.

Also, no sex appeal, and it doesn't have dump buttons. On an actual 1897 if you push in two little buttons on either side of the receiver it'll empty the tube with a really funny, satisfying noise. If I knew how to make webms I'd make one.

I had one of the norinco ones and the entire pump mechanism and bolt jammed up after about 100 rounds. I sent it in under warranty to some random fudd shop they use and they sat on it for a couple months before sending it back saying they didn't know what was wrong with it and they think they fixed it. I ended up just selling the garbage thing and would never buy anything from them after that experience

Why doesn't anyone make a kit to convert a regular ole shotgun into something that looks vaguely like a trench gun?

99% of the people who want an M1897 are just lusting after the looks, anyway.
>>

>Why doesn't anyone make a kit to convert a regular ole shotgun into something that looks vaguely like a trench gun?
heat shields are common and you can make your own with a hole punch and a tallboy can

Wow, yeah, I guess that's true! If you want it to look like total shit.

If you don't have a real answer, don't respond. It's that simple.

I don't think many common/cheap shotguns come with exposed hammers and partially external actions anymore.
In my eyes, part of the cool look is the hammer and exposed stuff
Also most modern shotguns dont let you slamfire which is half the fun of the 1897

Happened to me too. Currently around 2k rounds.
I just pushed hard on the back of the bolt and it promptly unfucked itself.
Had it happen a couple times while fingerfucking, but never at the range. Seems to only happen when I pump it slowly while holding the trigger and even then it's rare.
