Using an SKS crate to store rifles?

Its how I do it. I made my own crates for my weapons. Pic unrelated.

I'm concerned about the smell though. Wood is porous, and I'm sure 15 cosmoline-soaked sks's would cause it to reek something fierce. Any ideas? I've thought of building one outright, but costs, and materials would be more than this crate.

All my guns are I'm osb sheeted crates, one has a floor using a whole 4x8 sheet. Wood works very well to absorb moisture. Crating your weapons while keeping them oiled works great. Keeping your guns oiled laying horizontal keeps the oil from moving and being completely wasted. For example I oil my ar15's, snap dust cover shut, lay down horizontal. Ready for action longer than storage vertically.
