I am interested at buying an AK at some point but I had a few questions related to them:
1) Any recommended manufacturers and builds? ($800 max for me)
2) How easy is it to find ammo for an AK?
>>
>>31225618
>Any recommended manufacturers and builds?
WASRs, AMD 63s, AMD 65s, Saiga conversions, NPAPs, OPAPs, M77s, Apex kits Yugo kits, Romainian M64 kits, and Bulgarian kits, Galil CNC Warrior reciever and Apex Parts kit, Zastava M90 PAP
>How easy is it to find ammo for an AK?
Depends on the type of ammunition and where you live. If it's a .308 AK (Ex: M77), 5.56 (Galil, Zastava M90 PAP), or 7.62x39 (WASR, AMD 63/64) they'll be plentiful. If it's 5.45x39, you're MOST likely shit out of luck in terms of cost and availability.
>>
Buy a wasr
Ammo is at Walmart
>>
>>31225618
Unless you already have a 20 ton press and drill press and some of the jigs required you cannot build one for 800
>>
>>31225813
>>31225760
What has been the average cost for a WASR going these days? Any knock offs I should be worried about?
>>
>>31226703
Don't listen to >>31225813
Finding a new Wasr is impossible, as they're all out of stock currently. Also, look into DDI, if you're around 800.

Stay clear from IO
>>
Is an SKS a good alternative to an AK? I mean, AKs "can't" be full auto anyways. SKSs are cheaper too. What are your guys thoughts on that?
>>
>>31225813
>>31225760
I've been looking for a WASR for about a year and I haven't found a single one.
>>
>>31227162
A good SKS is a decent alternative to an AK, you just have to get good with stripper clips and be okay with reloading more often. All in all I'd rather have an AK because of the capacity, but I take an SKS deer hunting instead.
>>
>>31227162

Depends on what you prefer in ergonomics mostly.
>>
>>31227102
That sucks I had no idea the supply was so thin...what about Century arms? The store I go to sells a bunch of them. I have heard they are a hit and miss
>>
>>31225618
I've heard a lot of manufacturers and importers are either really good or dogshit. Which AKs would be good to buy and which ones should I avoid like the plague?
>>
>>31227162

sks is a nicer rifle, the ak is a better weapon
>>
>>31227162
Sks's were great...... when they were $150. Now that they cost nearly as much as an AK there is no reason to buy one.
>>
>>31227737
>Century Arms
Stopped reading right there. Just get an AMD 63 or an AMD 65 for 500 dollaryroos on Classics. You won't regret it and there's plenty of aftermarket available to replace things you don't like

Century arms are the importers for WASR's The scoop is that they'll be imported again "soon" but in a more limited supply. This in effect means that you'll be looking at 7-800 dollars per rifle, compared to 500. Since you're already up at that level, I'd recommend a DDI Hungarian rifle. It should be within a hundred or so dollars, minus tax of what you're looking for, if you are a bit open to price flux.

Otherwise, if you are ok with the look, the N-paps are good shit, and should cost you in the 6-7hundred range. (I picked up mine for 650 out the door with tax) Otherwise, there's the c39V2 also from century, which has a milled receiver, meaning some spotty furniture replacement. It's supposed to be a good bang for your buck, but as I don't own one, I'm not going to persuade you to buy one.
>>
>>31227867
The fuck are you talking about? As long as you get an import you should be fine, due to the changing of 922 and opening of magwell. Stay clear from any RAS47's, and you should be golden.

Also, avoid IO-Inter Ordnance AK's like the plague. Don't let the furniture or nice price point persuade you, they are cancer.
>>
>>31227888
Thanks for the insight. I drove around and I found an N-PAP rifle from Gander mountain going for $670. Also there is a DDI rifle w/ bakelite stock for $800. Both looked pretty nice. Out of the box which do you think is better? I don't really want to add much to a rifle at this point if I buy one.
>>
>>31225618
Atlantic has a sale on Zastava N-PAPs for $640 before shipping.

Honestly, I would go with what you "feel" like when you see it. Which has the most umph, so to speak? Because in the end, it's a difference of 130 dollars, and not worth the grief should you chose the wrong one. However, the DDI will have the ability to interchange furniture. I don't know if your meaning was to add an optic or rails, but that's up to you. The N-pap has a shitty stock, in the sense that you have to have your cheek weld very close to the receiver, unless you want the "yugo cheek slap" so I would change that if I was you. ACE is good, but that's another 150ish dollars for the adapter as well as pivot and stock.

Pic related. My npap with the two stocks.
>>
>>31228479
That's understandable. I really want an AK with wood stock furniture so I can see where I should just hold them in my hands for a feel.I want to avoid adding much of anything to the rifle.

Also, besides avoiding IO's AKs, steer clear of the RAS-47, it's a pipe bomb pending classification as a DD by BATFE.

This man speaks the truth. Only get an IO if you're scrapping everything except a couple parts to build something along the lines of an AK-12
>>
What about a converted Saiga? Not OP. Kind of invested into the AR but having an AK-alike could be cool. Even if it was in .223 and used AR mags for interchangeability.

>inb4 just buy another AR
>>
you cant buy AK ammo in the USA

just get an /r/15 fitty cal beauwolf itll take your arm CLEAN OFF
>>
Imported rifles, avoid U.S made rifles.
