I'm about to pull the trigger on a DSA FAL para as my first rifle. Already have a mossberg 500 and a M&P shield in 9mm.

Anything thing that mad you dislike the rifle? Any suggestions or must have modifications?
>>
>>31219507
It can't stand up to particulate matter or mud
>>
>>31219507
I guess ur the only one : )
>>
>>31219556
I haven't bought it yet
>>
Nah I love mine. Although the para folding stock is uncomfortable. Just wrap it in paracord.
>>
>>31219785
I haven't tried it, but I imagine putting a cheek pad/riser on the bar would help. I've tried underfolder AK's that have been like visiting the dentist.

I almost regret my StG-58 build whenever I come across a gun I really want and wish I hadn't spent the grand I paid for my StG so I could put it toward whatever I'm coveting, but then I go and just pick up and shoulder my StG and fall in love with it all over again.

I wouldn't go for a para if it's your only FAL as they aren't nearly as comfy as a traditional fixed FAL stock. The only thing I dislike about my FAL is that it gets heavy after a while but that also works in my favor because after getting used to the weight and I go back to something like an AK I'm surprised at how light it is.
>>
>>31219507
I have a rifle length SA58. it's one of my favorite shooting funs. not a single regret.

>>31220141
This post basically sums it up perfectly.
>>
>>31220181
God i really need to finish my fal build... just need to headspace it
>>
>>31220141
Also ammo cost is something I dislike because I'm so used to dirt cheap 7n6 and paying ~$0.60 a round for 7.62x51 will forever be weird
>>
>>31220252
What is reloading for 200 alex
>>
>>31220358
Yeah yeah but I live in a small apartment and don't have the space for a proper reloading bench

Plus the only calibers I'd reload would be .308 and 9mm and maybe 30-06 here and there and 80% of all my shooting is in stuff I wouldn't be able to reload (7.62x39 and 5.45) so I'd have a hard time thinking it isn't a waste of money if I don't use it too often.
>>
>>31220426
Yeah reloading sounds pointless to get into if you don't have a range in your backyard
>>
>>31219507
As a lefty, the metric mag release is a pain in the ass. Coated mags (i.e. the DSA mags) don't drop free, so you need to press the release and knock them out simultaneously which requires two hands or a good bit of luck.

Other than that, >>31220141 is exactly my experience.

I've been eyeing an AR-10 build for a while, but I always come back and snuggle my FAL.

If I do get another 7.62x51 semi auto, it will probably be a future revision of the RDB because ambi bullpups and SR-25 mags.
>>
>>31219507
Not in the slightest, but I also didnt buy a DSA
>>31219544
Not if you buy literally any other FAL than a DSA.
>>
the best ones are used mil parts
DSA is a shit company that noone should give money to, might as well be an obama voter supporting them
they will always be the least accurate battle rifle
buying one is wasting half a SCAR
only good FAL mags are used mil
charging handle is meh
>>
>>31219507
I love mine, but maybe an AR would be a better first rifle just because everything about it is easier. Still love my FAL to death, though, would be my main rifle if I could get more surplus mags and a good mag carrier
>>
has problems with steel cased ammo
gas regulator is kinda pointless. just leave it open
worst sights of the major BR's
why the fuck are 99/100 handguards bipod cut
the bipod sucks too, pushes directly on barrel
if rifle doesnt have extra safety sear can fire out of battery and glocknade
>>
>>31219507
Just get an AR-10. It's the only battle rifle that can be fully dunked into a wheelbarrow full of mud and keep killing terrorists.
>>
>>31222032
oh man you cant make this shit up
>>
>>31220609
As someone who's gone through the AR-10 thing...I'd suggest not doing it. If you're got an FAL, just be happy with that. if you want something more accurate, go for a bolt action.
>>
>>31222280>>31222487
Are you building it? After watching this https://youtu.be/_lxvmR68RY8 I was really looking at building. But then I looked into the actual parts... I would just buy pre built. Like a Windham weapons or Ruger. That's why I didn't mind the FAL it's pre built.

>>31221383
Can you point me at a "good" FAL then? PREFERABLY NOT TEN GRAND.
>>
>>31222800
The DSA Voyager will do you just fine. 21" gets OG points but is not as maneuverable.

If you don't want DSA for some reason, find a reputable build on a good receiver. Century is out of the question.
>>
>>31221236
>>31221383

What's wrong with DSA?
>>
Are IMBEL receivers okay?
>>
>>31219507
Buy a DSA Voyager. If you like the platform you can convert it to para status easily down the road
>>31222918
Generally yes assuming its not some fucked up build
>>31222913
Nothing, some aspies will cry about forged vs cast but its irrelevant.
>>
>>31222956
Thanks man, I bought some IMBEL rifle a while back for dirt cheap with like 12 mags and I haven't had any issue with it. I just wanted to make sure they seemed decent overall.
>>
>>31219507
I regret that like most military rifles, they are made for mantles. Going to have to get a longer stock.
>>
>>31222913
the company's reputation is suspect to say the least. they have been called out multiple times on the only FAL forum that matters. not even getting into forged vs cast the only fact that should matter is the biggest FAL fans hold the last FAL manf. in ill repute/ not a trusted company
>>
>>31219507
I have never regretted my FAL
I regretted spending student loan money on it
But I've never regretted it
>>
what are supposed to be higher end fals?
>>
>>31219507
Dude, how can you not like this rifle ?
For what reason did you buy it ?
This is not fuc/k/in GLOCK "Safe Action"® Pistol

I've bought my L1A1 approximately 3/4 year ago. It, chills me in my testicles every time, whenever I even look at her...

did you really spend all that money on inch mags?

Bruh, you know metrics work so long as they aren't DSA, right?

Hell, my Korean mag works great
>>
>>31220181
Nice rug. Is it handmade?
>>
Mags are expensive as all get out and I wish the Voyager 21 had the bipod cut out on the barrel. that being said its one of my favorite rifles and Im glad I bought mine.
>>
>>31225469
Dat furry buttplug.
>>
>>31219507
Nope. Even if i only shoot it a couple of times a year, i always bring it out during deer season sight in days at the range for fudd butt hurt.

When they piss and moan about my 20s can't be used for hunting, I produce a couple of 5s and grin. That juts pisses them off even more.
>>
>>31225645
is there anywhere in the country that you actually have a mag limit for hunting?

Here in MN every says that but it's not actually law
>>
>>31225710
In Michigan detachable rifle/carbine mags have a limit of 5, but tubes on lever guns can be full up. Revolver hunters can have a full cylinder. If you CC in the field, you can have a full mag.

That's only for hunting though. You go out in the woods not during a hunting time and you can have a drum mag if you want.
>>
>>31225710
wassup MN bro
>>
>>31225486
There is no significant difference in price of Inch/metric (I think that DSA mags are not even available there)

Inch - 37USD
Metric - 30USD

"Our" metric mags don't work well. (Propably Brasil and Belgium import) They are too "soft" and have a small catch...
>>
>>31220252
Go on gunbot.net 60¢ is ludicrous
>>
>>31225761
nigger I've never paid over $15 for a metric mag

DSAs can be had for $20 all day long

The catch doesn't matter, it fits in the magwell by shape, not the catch

Where are you that they cost that much?

Bought a Voyager FAL years ago, only regret is that I didn't buy two when they were under a grand.

Also if you are tall, make sure length of pull is comfortable, or your cheek will look like you went through a few rounds of bad speed dating.

Ergonomically speaking, I regret buying a PTR-91 GI over a DSA FAL. This thing was not designed for manlets.

In terms of bench accuracy, operating costs (cheap mags and can eat steel no problem), and decent reliability, I have no regrets.

I actually buy South African and Austrian surplus for around ~$0.40 a round but everything local is around ~$0.60 a round. Walmart used to stock ZQI for around ~$0.45 a round but they stopped locally. I buy 99% of my ammo in bulk online but it's still nice to buy a box or two whenever go to a local store that sells ammo but it's all so expensive now that ZQI isn't at wallyworld anymore.

You can make accurate FALs

I do really want an AUG eventually to have an StG-77 to match my StG-58, but I'm in no hurry
