Hey /k/, I've always been a fan of WWI, and I'd like to get one (or a few) guns that spent some time in the trenches. Any recommendations? I don't want any specific country, all I ask is that the ammo is somewhat easy to get. If it isn't, post anyways just tell me it's not. Can be rifle, shotgun, or handgun. Pic somewhat related.

1911 for handgun would be pretty easy given the hundreds of 1911 manufacturers out there

plus its gods gun
A Mosin-Nagant Model 1891 long rifle or Dragoon model made prior to 1918 would be the easiest to acquire. Millions were made and many survived to soldier on in various other armies for the second go-round, then get imported into the US. For instance, Finnish-used M91 long rifles sell for about $300-400 for one of the common manufacturers, and so-called "Balkan" M91 rifles usually from $200-300. The surplus 7.62x54R situation isn't what it used to be, but it is still somewhat available and there's lots of cheap steel-case soft-point from former Soviet manufacturers.
Second easiest would be the British Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk.III (again, made before 1918); they go for around $400 these days. .303UK is more expensive than x54R but again there's a decent quantity of civilian ammunition available, even some surplus from time-to-time.

Just saw an eddystone today in the pre-cold war section of a local gun store. Had no idea what it was till I looked it up after seeing your post. Pretty neat!
I've been thinking about getting an Enfield of some kind. This could be a contender depending on how much 30-06 costs. Never looked for the price of it at the store, I know brand new 303 is $19-20 for 20 though

Plenty of good rifles have been suggested. What about a handgun?
I've got a 1917 revolver and I love it. It's pretty accurate. Fires standard .45ACP using moon clips. You can also use a special round called .45HP that's 1mm shorter than a .45ACP. The story goes that Austria banned .45ACP, so manufacturers created the .45HP round to get around the ban. Because it's shorter than the ACP it won't feed properly in .45 semiautos, but it works just fine in a revolver like the M1917. I mention this because I just picked some up from J&G for around 15 cents / round before shipping.
Here OP, you can look at my WWI 91/30
P14 or m1917, best Mausers ever made.

Sorry, I could've said it better. The history of the Great War facinates me, so I'd like to get a feel for the firearms used in the trenches.
