Have y'all seen this Business Insider article?

http://www.businessinsider.com/weapons-military-should-bring-back-2016-8/#1-m1-carbine-1
>>
>>31207111
Are you fucking surprised? You expect Business Insider to know shit about guns? I literally stopped reading when I saw M1 Carbine at #1. What's your point in all this, OP?
>>

M79.jpg
289KB, 1280x1024px
The only one of any value there is the M79.
>>
>>31207167
Why though? it's a single-shot 40mm grenade launcher when we literally can have that same thing attached to a rifle anymore.
>>
>>31207111
>the M1 fired a fairly accurate .30-caliber rimless round that zinged at about 2,000 feet per second at the muzzle — that's getting close to the speed of a standard mil spec 5.56 round
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAA
>Really, all you need to say about the BAR is "thirty-ought-six."
>End of discussion.
Tell me this nigga is joking
>The M79 grenade launcher was America's first attempt to meld the range of a mortar with the portability of a rifle grenade. The innovative "high-low propulsion system" kept recoil low while also reducing weight.
Pfft, there's a reason the M203 is in service. Same shit, lighter and able to fit snuggly under a rifle.

>1911 comeback
Debatable

>Thompson
>Using heavy as fuck submachineguns in the military
>ever
The only thing I agree with is the Stoner 63. That aby girl should come back and make a stand over the M27. Seriously, is this dude a COD /k/iddo?
>>
>Literally one of the most revered guns in US military history

Is this the level modern journalism is at? Sprinkling random "literally"s into their writing like a middle schooler in a YouTube video's comment section?

I hate how misused that word is these days.
>>
>>31207111
ALL OF MY HATE
>>
>>31207186

Better range and accuracy, slightly better rate of fire. Also need to bring back 40mm buckshot rounds.
>>
>>31207143
You should've kept going, it only got better. He suggested bringing back the BAR, too.
>>
I wonder if we'll see a watercooled machinegun comeback some day. Or perhaps some closed system type of deal like a heat pipe.
>>
>>31207167
We still keep m79s in inventory.
they have their uses
>>
>>31207202
I mean, we're at a point where anyone who would've played the OG CoDs would be able to put this shit out now.
>>
>>31207278
If a 203 can't reach it/hit it, we already have something that's better suited for the job. The only reason an M79 would be useful is the same reason a single-shot break-action 12 gauge is "useful": extremely niche purposes including exotic loads, but like >>31207294
said we still have some for that apparently

>>31207287
Doubtful, unless magnetic coil weaponry would necessitate that kind of cooling. There's a reason things aren't used anymore, and that's almost always because we developed something better
>>
>>31207143
You didn't even get to the comments?
Sweet baby jesus..
>>
>>31207143
>>31207202
>>31207231
>>31207253
>>31207278
I don't see why you guys don't like the article. Literally every other nation in the world has superior infantry weapons and we need to seriously reassess what we have. I mean, the M16 is unreliable and too complicated especially compared to Russian weapons.
>>
>>31207202
Sounds like he played World at War, then wrote an article for the least business business website on the Internet

you are fucking retarded and should stop posting and actually get your hands on real guns

the M16 is perfectly fine
>>
>>31207345

because our infantry are a bunch of slackjawed dudebros who drink like fish and don't know what the fuck a prpper cleaning looks like, nevermind lubricant

Ya, my unit had M3a1 grease guns too.
>>

Just call him a newfag and leave the thread to die.
>>
>>31207372
>>31207373
>>31207380
It isn't bait, though. Our weaponry is generally more resource and technology intensive that those of the nations that aren't our allies. That'll lead to us losing out in the techno-attrition that characterizes modern war.
>>
>>31207404
>infantry weapons
>determining the outcome of war
wars are won with shit that comes out of the sky.
>>
>>31207404

You are fucking retarded. I posted this so some keks would be had, not so you'd come and shitty up the thread.
>>
>>31207345
can't tell if bait because I'm sure some people on /k/ actually believe this.
>>
>>31207429
Of course it's bait.

Weren't tankers issued those up until the 90s?
>>
>>31207345
You tried to hard, anon, it shows. Better luck next time
>>
>>31207462

Probably. Mine was a mechanized infantry unit.
>>
>>31207396
The M3 is one gun that I'd kill to have. No real rhyme or reason, I'm just drawn to it.

>>
>>31207643
80's and later I'll agree with you, especially with the preponderance of asymmetrical warfare within our conflicts. Before that, it certainly was a factor, but not THE factor, at least not on the whole.
>>
>>31207690
Yes, just look at how the French with their superior Chassepots defeated the Prussians with their inferior Dreyses in 1870, right? Oh fucking wait.

Unless there's a generational difference, having a better or worse infantry weapon means fucking jack shit.
>>
>>31207462
>You were born too late to be issued a grease gun and not be a baby boomer
Fuck, why do I have this feel. I would actually consider enlisting now if I could guarantee getting one.

Except we have the M320 now for exactly that niche. And the M32 if you need more dakka
>>
>>31207429
It's either bait or a nofun whose weapons knowledge comes from Max Brooks and his zombie books. Personally, thinking bait.

>>31207575
Yeah, me too. I know this sounds fudd, but 30 rounds of .45 in a full-auto configuration is a great thing to have.
>>
>>31207111

The browning BAR the original was heavy as fuck.

It was basically like the IAR but retarded

Even if I had the money to afford a 12-24 month gym membership and got all the gainz and strength I wanted.

I would not want to futz around with a classic BAR, or even the booted attempt

And a Stoner G6 in LMG configuration, isn't that just the precursor to the LSAT?

>Thompson SMG

Uhhh. Vector? Drumfed?

What a fucking joke.

Who the hell thought this was a good article to publish.

Early 2000s. I seen a few Bradley crew members with them during the 2003 invasion.

ironically, this post was more entertaining to read than the entire article.

>>
>>31207286
I find it interesting through that all weapons suggested have been "brought back" in over way or another.

The BAR has merely been flipped upside down and placed into the M240

The Thompson evolved into the T2 which is not entirely different from the MP5 (in use)

The carbine has been tweaked and twisted into the modern assault rifle ext.

Sup dudes, infantryfag here. On my first trip to afghanistan I was a grenadier. And I have a handful of kills with the m79 - >>31207278 this guy is right, it could outshoot the 203 (which i loved) by about 75 yards and was easier/faster to reload. I cant speak to the actual accuracy but it was definitely easier to shoulder and more natural to aim so i can agree with that.

By the end of that deployment, the only place my M4 went with me was to the shitter. m79 found a home in the tower next to the mk48. and all i would patrol with was a Milkor (never knew that was its name, we literally called it the six-shooter) and 3 bandoliers of 40mm and a m9.

tl;dr - m79 still good
>>
