My unit has allowed for Tomahawks as a nod to neighboring first nations tribes so you bet your ass I'm getting one. It has to be max 18" total lenght, conservative in color and it has to be a Tomahawk, no double sided shit.
Suggestions? I was reading about the Colt X-1 which seems nice.

Have a tomahawk made from a guy in the states that I'm rather fond of, J&L cutlery. He put an excellent edge on it and the heat treat is well done.

Pros:
>Cheap
>Nice Kabar-ish leather handle
>Steel shaft for prying stuff
>Beefy spike
>Estwing makes rock solid stuff
Also comes in blue, black, or desert.
Helmforge tomahawk and knife.

Main use of a tomahawk is a tool, not like you're planning to go toe to toe with a terrorist, knife to tomahawk. Your combatives instructor is going to laugh at me because I have a hatchet in my loadout? Fuck your combatives instructor. How's that?
What do you mean your unit is now allowing it?
Some peeps in my company had em every time we went in the field...
>>31199092
I didn't now until then I needed one in my life. This little thing is cute as all hell.
nigga please.
If you want a serious tool, don't get anything from SOG, United Cutlery, or Cold Steel. PLastic handles might be ok sometimes, but for military use you want a full steel handle. Wood handle is better for innawoods use as a light hatchet, but wood is obviously not as strong as steel.
>>31201412
The grind on that thing is meant for breaking things, not cutting. And it has a shit sheath. It's not even a sheath, just a blade cover. If you want to break up concrete all day, it would be great, but if you want it to be a more multi purpose tool, you'll have to regrind the head and get someone to do a custom sheath so you can carry it easily.
What's your budget OP?
As a basic entry hawk, go for a CRKT Kangee or Chogan. They're designed by RMJ and they have good kydex sheaths and are easily adapted to carry on a belt or on MOLLE.
If you want something bomb proof get a RMJ. They're the OGs when it comes to tactical tomahawks. They're expensive, but they cater to military first, and they'll make you happy.
Winkler makes some really nasty stuff as well. If you're ok with paying a little more than what a RMJ costs, he's your man. He also does them with a tapered tang, so they have a more weight-forward balance than most other full tang axes. So go for that if it's your thing.
There are tons of other guys out there making custom designs and stuff, but they cost around the same as a RMJ and you tend to have to wait a lot more to get it in your hands. Helm Forge is definitely a good maker though. His wait time is pretty short, and he has really good prices. And he does everything by hand, so any combination of features he can probably do for you if you get into contact with him.

Not the best choice. But they have functional designs... Even if one is a blatant rip off of RMJ's Eagle Talon, and the one you posted is a rip off of the Winkler Sayoc design.

Why the fuck would you want to lug around that much weight for the off chance you get to do something stupid with it? Get a folding saw and a sharp knife; it'll do everything better and weigh less.
>>31204874
It's an axe bro. It can do both the jobs of a knife and a saw, and some of the ones they can't. Wood handled tomahawks are the multi-tools of innawoods, and they don't weigh much. Around 1 pound. And the tacticool full tang ones are around two pounds, but they're meant more as breaching tools and last ditch weapons than for cutting wood.
>>31204874
Have you ever spent much time in the woods? Axes are VASTLY SUPERIOR for cutting through small branches, whether for bushwhacking, building shelters, or collecting firewood.

Yes I have; backpacking. You don't need to bushwhack much when going off trail; you're expending more energy than just going through it (at least where I've been). If you are actually needing to bushwhack, a machete is likely better. The only thing that I'd rather have a hatchet for is splitting firewood, and you're not likely to be chopping down >4" thick trees anyway. To each their own. I didn't realize they were under 2lbs though, I thought they were heavier.
