It's looks so strong. So powerful. So big. I wish I could feel it's power.

Big?

This is the engineer's panel. You wonder how often they lost those guys to suicide.
>>31197802
Peacemakers always are
>>31199987
Sweet left handed Jesus. Is that for real?
>You wonder how often they lost those guys to suicide.
Also, is this for real?
>>31199957
Dayton has one
I just saw one of these for the first time at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum in Ashland, Nebraska. Seen B-52 before, and B-29s often at airshows (mainly "Fifi"), so it was neat to see a B-36 in the flesh. Cute little museum, they packed a lot of planes in there.
The B-36 was neat, they had the bomb bays open so you could see some of the inside although you couldn't go in, it had this long pressurized tube on the inside that the crew would crawl through to get to different compartments. I took a few pictures but my phone camera sucks.
>>31200014
Neat, next time I'm in Ohio. I'll have to make a detour.
theres actually a little cart they pull themselves along to pass between the pressurized crew areas.
i love how you can follow the evolution of American bomber designs from the B-29 to the B-52, its 2 decades of aircraft getting bigger and more capable with new technologies while the basic design remained the same.
>>31200030
Shot of the one in dayton
>>31200105
slap the wings and tail of the B-47 on a B-36, you get the YB-60, the awkward cousin of the B-52.
Convair X-6 was a proposed nuclear powered B-36 variant. Imagine flying for days or weeks at a time if necessary.
>>31198388
The B-36 didn't have tracked landing gear sorry broh.
>>31197802
ITS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE

Who would approve this retarded shit, this was a russian tier stupid idea.
Heres the one at Pima absolutely dominating the main drag (If you dont look to the left and see the boring 787)

>>31200847
Not really that odd considering things like nuclear subs exist.
The real reason it never took off is because the big bombers that would be packing nukes already have enough endurance for what would have been a one way trip.
>sergei do not shoot
>is flying dirty bomb
>>31199987
That's not even that complex.
Most of those are cbs or warning lights. You can clearly see that its actually 6 repetitions if the same gauges since there are 6 prop engines. Hence the reason for the 6x2 throttle/fuel mix sticks.
The middle left panel is a power panel so that'll all be flick and forget.
Classic FE stuff really - flickin' switches, gettin' bitches

No, the real reason they never took off was because they'd be much too heavy with all that lead :^)
>>31197802
>its so fucking big
If I had a nickel every time I heard that...
>>31201036
>Not really that odd considering things like nuclear subs exist.
If a nuclear sub gets destroyed, it sinks to the bottom of the ocean where its radioactive fuel is kept contained in the imploded wreck.
If a nuclear plane gets destroyed, it breaks up in the air and Chernobyls the whole region.
>>31199957
Edwards AFB in California has one.
roomy
>>31197802
For you.
>"As engine fires occurred with the B-36's radial engines, some crews humorously changed the aircraft's slogan from "six turning, four burning" into "two turning, two burning, two smoking, two choking, and two more unaccounted for."
>>31198023
Anythings a dildo if you're brave enough
Look for the movie Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart. It's a love letter to SAC and the B-36.

"Perhaps they are wondering why you would put jet engines on a prop plane?"
>>31208506
lower stall speed
>>31208506
Better takeoff performance, iirc they were turned off once at altitude and speed
>>31204871
>"two turning, two burning, two smoking, two choking, and two more unaccounted for."
this pretty much sums up the average B-36 patrol flight.
>>31210040
the turbojets wernt use for regular flight, they were only turned on for a speed boost during attack runs on their targets to outrun interceptors.
>>31197802
my grandfathers younger brother flew these. it was so stressful he chewed all of his finger nails down to the nub
>>31200015
>and B-29s often at airshows (mainly "Fifi"),
you do know that until just this summer, Fifi was the ONLY flying B-29, right?
