Mossberg now makes an AOW shotgun based on the 500 and they're...drumroll please....$910. Because fuck you, that's why.

That's fucking bullshit. They know it, I know it, you know it. Discuss

They only charge that much because their only competitor (Serbu) charges $1050 for the same thing. They can still Jew you hard with no lube while at the same time being the cheaper OEM option.

So yeah, one part capitalism and one part "fuck you". There is no reason these should cost more than ~$100 over a standard model, and even that's generous.
>>
>>31197297
This guy gets it
>>
>>31197297
>(Serbu) charges $1050 for the same thing
Doesn't make it right though. I'll take price fixing for $910, Alex.
>>
>>31197333
It's not price fixing, it's simple economics. Serbu was the only option for a long, long time and they sold plenty charging $1050 because people were willing to pay that much. Now that Mossberg is making the same thing, why would they charge 1/3 of that? The market can support $910 MSRP, so that's what they go with. Mossberg and Serbu aren't meeting together behind closed doors to jack the price of this niche item up.
>>
I have fired a serbu and I don't think I would bother owning one even if it wasn't nfa and priced 4x it's value. It's just a goofy gun

How is it bullshit? It's their product, and Mark Serbu has been doing the same thing for years and no one calls him out.
>>
>>31197414
>no one calls him out.
They make like, what, 5 different firearms? I've never even seen one in person. If a botique manufacturer wants to make a special snowflake and sell it for a stupid price so be it. Mossberg can't possibly be put out by selling these at a reasonable price. I'd think $100 over the price of a cruiser is reasonable. I'm sure they took new tooling, lines, what have you so I'll give them a little. But over twice the price? Highway robbery is what that is.
>>
>>31197411
Well yeah, they're novelties except for limited use as breaching tools. I don't know about Mossberg, but Serbu's never advertised them as anything but.

yup. its just a range toy and i wouldnt bother having one if it was a single item or i didnt already have a trust. but sometimes you make impulse buys. either way it has never failed to put a smile on some ones face after they shoot it for the first time.
>>
>>31197538
>oh wow. i paid 700 (thats still too much)

$1050 is MSRP, so not representative of what actual street price is. Just like Mossberg's $910 is just the MSRP.
>>
>>31197564
fair enough but that price is still going to be closer to the msrp then to 700 outside of possible one off private sales.

Thanks mossberg we have a 20" forend, 14" long forend, 14" short forend, and now additional 7.5" and 10.25" forends to keep track of.

Meanwhile the remington 870 still has one size.
>>
>>31197236
If it's over 26" horizontally, it's non-restricted in Canada. This will add good variety to our short barrelled shotgun options which are currently limited to: Chinese knockoffs of the Remington 870 and Ithica 37, Turkish SxS break actions, and pricey but gorgeous Italian stuff from Benelli.

>>
>>31197834
>200 of that price tag is the 200 dollar AOW manufacturer tax stamp

No. FFLs don't have to pay a $200 tax for each gun they make. That's waived as they've already paid for their SOT to manufacture NFA items.

>>31197236
Of course the price is high.

It's probably an attempt at keeping it out of the hands of Terminal Psychotics, and thus preventing a PR nightmare.

Plus, it's clearly for paramilitary use. The only people who will buy this are professionals who need a not-shit breaching weapon, and rich guys with nothing better to do.

Doesn't help that you can just cut down a normal low-capacity Mossberg to 26" and throw the right grip on it, or just buy their Field-Security combo, or buy a KSG from Kel-Tec.

Yeah. It's a niche firearm. More of a lightweight tool than anything.
>>

Because they're generally for Law Enforcement, Militia types, and Private Contractors.
>>
>>31197236
Would it be possible to create a pump action bullpup shotgun where the grip and trigger is the same part as the pump? Some sort of simple ring should be attached at the back so it can be pumped. The pump-grip would need a way to lock pretty securely and stably, but I think that this monster could wiggle in an extra shell into the tube within the same OAL.

This has already been answered multiple times. Manufacturers registered to manufacture NFA items have to pay an SOT (Special Occupation Tax) that waives them from paying a $200 tax stamp every time they manufacture and NFA item. An SOT is only $500 per year and they can make as many controlled funs as they want. Mossberg charges $900+ because they can, not because they have to.

Not to mention that unless you like questionable turk or chinkshit, an SxS is going to be more expensive than a pump action.
>>
>>31203064

It's literally 50% better.
>>
>>31197464

The cost is likely much lower. If I'm a betting man, I say the markup is tremendous compared to the normal models to give NFA shops a reason to carry it at all and be willing to hold it for months while the prospective buyer waits for paperwork.
>>
>>31203081
>>31203103

Alright, how is it better than a Mossberg 500 Persuader with a 5+1 capacity?

>>
>>31203081
>an SxS is going to be more expensive than a pump action.
At this size and for this close-range defensive purpose, there is no reason for it to be expensive or made to the kind of exacting specifications plus bling of those luxury SxS options.

Just slap a quad barrel shotgun together, four fucking unrifled tubes which should be the opposite of expensive, and you now got a compact shotgun that is 33% better than the pump action and can potentially reload much faster with the right technique / a 4-slot clip.
>>
>>31203064
I bet you could get like 5 minishells in that nigga

smaller/handier. It's no doubt a very niche and specialized item, but if you can't see the utility, I won't try and sell you on it.
>>

Still cheaper than the super shorty, and it looks like they actually did work on these rather than just chopping a barrel unlike serbu (they don't even come with a bead sight, cheap fucks).

Also, is that MSRP or street price? Because there's going to be a big difference.

If I need something that small I'd prefer a pistol cal carbine instead. An SMG if MGs were never banned.

At least with four barrels the recoil will be reduced from the weight and you can potentially fire all four almost at once. Your shitty 2+1 pump action will just encourage you to short stroke at the worst possible moment.

I feel like 5+1 is unnecessary for a last-ditch concealable fun gun. I'd be fine with 3+1 and a lot shorter

Gonna need a tutorial on fitting that forend

>not having a jewchan pass
>>
>>31204157
You need to dremel out a new shelf inside the forend for the forend nut to shoulder on. You also need to cut down said nut to about a 1/4 to 3/8 inch in length to get it to fit behind the barrel lug. I'll take a pic when I get home of the setup.
>>
That's neat, but I'll stick to my cut down 1897, holds more ammo and I made it myself.

You can keep trying, but SBSs are no go in Illinois.
We just recently (within the past couple years) got SBRs, but no suppressors or SBSs.
AOW and DD are gtg too.

Awesome thanks. I've been doing a little reading and I think I can use a 500 cruiser with the standoff barrel + the 14" kit to build one while saving the spare barrel for my 835.I'll lose the 3.5 chamber but it should take 10" off the gun.

Hopefully it works out, otherwise I'm looking at buying a 590 barrel or buying a new 835 barrel to cut, which is fucking expensive and will still leave me with an overbore

>Charging more for less?
Charging more for things that you expect to sell less units of is pretty normal.

You realise that every SKU you carry, every component you have to keep stock of, every production slot that you need to schedule has a cost right?

Sadly no, because that's a Mossberg 500 Persuader not a Winchester 1300 Defender. The Winchester is what Douk had, but those aren't in production any more and are mad expensive on auction sites. It cost me 400 bucks to get a standard 20" Mossberg 500 PGO and stick Tacstar grips on it, which was money well spent, even if California is 100-200 bucks more expensive than actually free states. Still I like the Mossberg a big better anyway, the gateless loading system is neat and easy on the fingers.
